Strangely intense
anndhansen-953923 March 2021
Very little happens and yet you have this intense feeling watching. It is pleasant to see something out of the ordinary, the quiet life in the woods, the beauty of the Transsylvanian landscape. The campfire outside, cooking with a wooden stick for a spoon, wolves howling ... suggesting werewolves. I like the timelessness. The setting could be 1920'es or 1930'es, but also later. We see a way of living that a lot of people is longing for today based on all the reality series about city people being dumped in the wild. I wasn't bored for one second. It has this right feeling of 'movie'. Of wonder.

Wasted

Story is broken. Luckily, it's beautifully shot, so at least you could linger on the images. You will be waiting and praying to get a sense of the story, which starts as a quest for the truth, a love story, and then predictibly ends up in a blurry mess. You won't get it. I laughed out loud finding out that the lead actress got awarded as best actress in a leading role in Romania for this part. What a joke 😂

Beautiful film

We loved this film. The photography is beautiful. The acting is understated but very convincing. It is slow, and a lot of Hollywood/American film lovers will not like that.

But then we tend not to like American films for their brashness and sugary sentimentality.

Slow but tense, bleak but beautiful.

Warning: Spoilers
Not for all audiences for sure. This topic has already been told before, about solitary, woods, few characters and their deep study, few dialogues and many things about which you have to think after the watching. This one makes no exception to the rule, though many holes or things that remain to be explained. The one that I think about is how the hunter finds out who raped the woman, and is he actually the true rapist? Or maybe i have lost something during the film. Anyway, the settings are terrific, besides the violin score.

The man who loved mountains
edugroen22 May 2021
Warning: Spoilers
A man - and his dog - in a hut built against a mountain, away from the city for twelve years. Then a woman appears, injured and beautiful and mysterious, revealing nothing about her past..., actually telling nothing essential.

Reminds me of another story... The man who loved islands (D. H Lawrence). Why do people want to isolate themselves from other people? What does isolation do to people?

Can a man lead a separate and individual life (with a woman, with other people)?

This hurt man lives a secluded life in the wilderness in the mountains, shy of the people in the city. But when the young woman shows up, and after a while a young man... threat is in the air. In the end there is onely room for one. A lonely man - and his dog - in the wilderness in the mountains. Life is hard.
