- A detective in a mob case is killed. Garrett is accosted outside his home by a SWAT team after a false report. Erin is approached by an acquaintance of Anthony who offers to help in an organized crime case over Anthony's objections.
- Danny and Baez work the case of a detective who was gunned down prior to testifying against a career criminal. Also, Frank personally investigates when Garrett is attacked by a SWAT team outside his home, and Erin brings in a confidential informant against Anthony's wishes.
- In the morning, a man leaves his house to go to work. as he leaves, his wife calls him back to give him a cup of coffee. She kisses him good bye and tells him to have a good day. As the man crosses his front yard, a gun is heard being cocked, and the man draws his holstered gun from his hip. Before he can fire a shot, he is shot five times and falls to the ground. The wife returns to the yard calling out his name, Arthur, and she rushes to his side. She calls for help, and a man in a car drives up to help out. The man checks to see if Arthur is still alive, but Arthur falls unconscious. Arthur's wife pleads for her husband to wake up as the man in the car calls for help on his cell phone. The police arrive, but it is too late, as Arthur has passed away. Detectives Danny Reagan & Maria Baez arrive at the crime scene only to find that there is no physical evidence to go on. As Danny further investigates Arthur's body, Maria deduces that she knows what Danny is thinking. Danny confirms that he is thinking that this murder was a professional hit. Maria asks if this is related to a case they have against Robert Cofey. Danny confirms that the case was active for a decade and Arthur, who was a star witness that was going to send Cofey to prison, has now died, that all signs are pointing that Cofey was behind all this. Baez tells Danny that Arthur's wife had been taken to the hospital due to a severe case of hyperventilating and that a neighbor was told by Arthur that his final word before dying was "Cofey".
In another part of town Deputy Commissioner of Public Information Garrett Moore and wife Cynthia are asleep in their home. Garrett is awakened by a noise, he and goes to his closet to get his gun and investigate. Cynthia is awoken as well, and Garrett tells his wife to stay in the bedroom. Garrett makes his way down the stairs to his living room and front door where he hears more sounds. Cynthia follows him after putting on a robe. Garrett opens his front door where he finds police officers in SWAT gear. Bright lights shine on his face and he is ordered to put his hands up. Garrett does so and the officers see the gun in his hands. Garrett is then tackled to the ground. Cynthia comes out of the house as well and she is also tackled to the ground as well. The next morning, Police Commissioner Frank Reagan has arrived at the hospital. He finds Garrett and asks how he and his wife are doing. Garrett tells Frank that Cynthia is fine, but rattled and that the police officers had their boots on their faces. Frank reminds Garrett that he did have a gun in his hands, but Garrett explains that he was investigating a possible threat to his home. Frank suggests getting a cup of coffee and they move into a waiting room. Frank explains that Garrett got "swatted", meaning that somebody called 9-1-1 and reported that Garrett was holding Cynthia hostage. Garrett can not understand how a story like that wasn't verified and that anybody can have a SWAT team called for the wrong reason. Frank then explains that swatting could be done as an act of revenge. Garrett disproves this by saying that he doesn't believe anybody would have a reason to do this. Frank then suggests that because of a recent separation from a previous relationship, but Garrett again shoots down this idea. Frank then suggests if someone was targeting Cynthia has she had recently separated from someone else as well, and Garrett disproves this as well. Frank then gets called away and tells Garrett to take time away to take care of Cynthia and he will handle the investigation.
Danny & Baez are continuing their investigation about Arthur's murder, by talking to his wife Carol. Danny asks Carol if she saw the murder and she replies that she was in the house, but heard the shots being fired. Baez asks if she knew anybody that wanted to hurt her husband, she replies that because her husband was a police officer for 20 years, the list of people would be too long. Danny asks if anyone had an "ax to grind", Carol answers that when it came to Arthur's police work, she wasn't told much about it. Baez asks if there were any specific threats recently and Carol answers that she did recall that Arthur was working on a really big case. Baez asks if it was the Robert Cofey case, Carol answers that she knew it was the case she was talking about although Arthur had never talked about it directly. Carol recalled that one night after Arthur had come home from work, something was wrong. She asked Arthur what was bothering him and he had replied, "Nothing". But Carol knew that something was bothering her husband. Arthur finally confessed that it was nothing to worry about but an known associate of Robert Cofey was trying to scare him. Danny asked Carol if Arthur had given a description of the man and Carol answered that Arthur had not.
In another part of town, Erin Reagan is in a gym running a treadmill. A man walks up to her and recognizes her saying he knew it was her and she was right. Erin takes out her earbud and asks what he had said. The man introduces himself as Jimmy Pearson, a friend of her co-worker Anthony Abetemarco. Jimmy tries to make small talk as Erin continues to focus on her workout on the treadmill, but she soon figures out there is more to them just meeting randomly at a gym. Jimmy tells her that he has a proposition for her, and she tells him that if he has information that it needs to be done properly and that would be through Anthony. Jimmy tells her that Anthony snubbed him. Erin stops and running and tells Jimmy that she has figured out that he's in trouble again, which Jimmy admits. He then reminds Erin that she has tried three times to take down crime boss Benny Tomassi and that he has information that can take down the Tomassi family. Erin seems uninterested and attempts to continue her run when Jimmy tells her that he knows Benny's son Carlo and that he has been in charge of a stolen car ring for six months. Erin stops her workout and focuses on Jimmy.
At Danny's precinct, he and Baez are talking to Arthur's former partner, Detective Patrick Ogden. They ask him if he recalls hearing about Arthur ever being threatened by anyone. Detective Ogden answers that information like that would be kept to Arthur himself. Danny suggests that information like that might have been shared to his partner. Baez asks if anything like that ever happened. Detective Ogden claims that he doesn't remember if anything like that did happen. He also says that if something like that did happen, that Arthur should have made a note of it and it should have been reported to Intelligence. Baez reminds him that Detective Ogden should have done the same thing as well. After asking for a promise that he wouldn't get "jammed up", Detective Ogden confirms Carol's story about an informant threatening Arthur about the Robert Cofey case. Danny then asks if a description was given and Detective Ogden confirms that there wasn't, but that Arthur had named the informant as Robert Cofey's right hand man, Victor Lugo. Danny and Baez look over hours and hours of surveillance tapes and they find footage that confirms Carol & Detective Ogens' story.
At the District Attorney's office, Anthony goes into Erin's office where he finds Jimmy and after asking what is going on, Erin tells him that Jimmy has been hired as a confidential informant. Anthony tells Erin that he wants nothing to do with Jimmy and goes to walk out of the office, but Erin calls him back. Anthony heads to his office as Erin chases him down. Erin tries to defend Jimmy, but Anthony wants nothing to do with Jimmy saying that anything he has only benefits himself. Erin tries to explain that if she goes after Carlo, she can easily take down the entire Tomassi family. Anthony tries to warn Erin not to rely on Jimmy because everything he gets involved in goes sour. Erin tells Anthony that with them together, this result will be different, but Anthony refuses saying that he will not get involved. Erin asks Anthony not to make her help her because that is the only way he will help her and Erin orders Anthony to help her. Anthony reluctantly agrees.
At One Police Plaza, Frank is having a briefing about Danny's case with Detectives Sid Gormley & Detective Abigail Baker when Garrett arrives inside Frank's office wearing casual clothes. Garrett apologizes and says that he is there unofficially and he needed to pick up some paperwork. Frank tells Garrett that he could use his help and asks Sid & Abigail to leave the room. Garrett continues to apologize saying that his wife hasn't recovered well from their incident with the SWAT team. Frank tells Garrett that he contacted the Bronxville Police Department and that he and his wife would be receiving a letter of apology and assures him that he will not be swatted again. Garrett tells Frank that he feels that it might not be enough and that he needs to be with his wife. Frank asks him how much time does he need and Garrett answers that he doesn't know. Frank seems disappointed in his answer and tells him to do what he needs to do to get through this situation. Garrett apologizes again and Frank dismisses him by reminding him about Officer Hines' murder and he needs to continue the investigation.
Back at Erin's office, Erin and Jimmy are going over the plan on how to catch Carlo. Carlo will be wearing a wire as Jimmy goes undercover with a Porsche 911. Jimmy assures Erin that he understands the plan and that it will go through without a hitch. As Jimmy drives away in the car, he peels out and nearly hits a pedestrian.
At a barbershop in town, Victor Lugo sits in a chair, getting a shave. Danny and Baez approach him and attempt to take him into the station for questioning. Victor responds with insults and bad jokes. Danny asks Victor where he was on the night of October 10. Victor rudely asks him to ask his wife. Danny becomes very insulted and grabs Victor by the throat and warns him that if he disrespects his wife again, the barbers razor will go right through his neck. Victor denies killing a police officer and Danny tells him they have evidence of Victor threatening Arthur outside his precinct. Victor says he's not saying anything else until he talks to his lawyer. That is all Danny needs to hear, and he tells him to call his lawyer. At Danny's precinct, Danny is going over the video footage with a technical officer, noting that the imaging isn't clear enough to confirm that Victor Lugo is on the footage. As the tech officer tells him that the footage may take a while to be usable, Baez announces that Victor has arrived but he is not alone. Danny then makes a smart remark about his lawyer and when he turns around, Victor and his lawyer, Herbert Talbert arrive. As they go into the interrogation room, Mr. Talbert announces that he has signed affidavits from witness saying that Danny assaulted Victor in the barbershop. Mr. Talbert also produces a medical report saying that Victor was close to sustaining a fatal injury from Danny as well. He also announces that they intend to file a formal complaint about Danny on how the NYPD trains their detectives. Danny dismisses everything and says that the most that would happen to him is that he would be put on modified duty for a week. As they go to leave, Danny reminds Victor and his lawyer about the footage of threatening Detective Hines. Mr. Talbert then produces an alibi for Victor saying he was at the gym at the time of the murder.
In the city, Jimmy arrives at Carlo Tomassi's garage blaring the radio loudly. Carlo asks if the car is stolen which Jimmy denies. Carlo offers him $20,000 for the car and Jimmy works him up to $35,000 after doing a do-nut in the garage. Carlo agrees to the deal and almost immediately the police swarm in on Carlo.
Back at Danny's precinct, the tech officer has finished working on the footage but Danny dismisses it saying the case has gone cold. The tech shows him an image of a tattoo on Victor's arm. Danny leaves the precinct after seeing Victor's tattoo.
At the district attorney's office, Anthony is admitting to Erin that Jimmy actually did a good job in getting Carlo arrested. They are met by Dale Quinn who is Carlo's attorney. Mr. Quinn is claiming that he has already secured a victory against Erin because of Grace Allesi, who is Carlo's girlfriend. As Erin remarks that their relationship is going to be hindered because of Carlo's impending incarceration. Mr. Quinn tells Erin that Grace is Jimmy's ex-girlfriend and Erin realizes that Mr. Quinn is going to argue that her prosecution is personal. Mr. Quinn then threatens to leak the story to the press within 24 hours unless his client is released and the charges are dropped.
In Frank's office, Abigail announces that Garrett has arrived and enters Frank's office in a sweat shirt and jeans. In his own way, Frank tries to apologize, but claims that he has limited way and means of doing it. As Garrett's voice raises, Frank tells his friend to sit down. Frank tells Garrett that he has found out that whoever swatted Garrett went through multiple servers and firewalls. Frank then asks Garrett directly, who he thinks did this to him. Garrett answers that he has no idea, Frank thinks otherwise. He then instructs Garrett to remove all his emotions and asks, "who's in the room"? Garrett has one quick thought and Frank jumps on it. Garrett has no idea what is going on and Frank pushes him to say the name of who he thinks swatted him. Garrett says the name Adam Cassir. Frank says that is wonderful asks who that is. Garrett answers that Adam Cassir is a 16 year old blind boy.
At Danny's precinct, Danny catches Detective Ogden and tells him that the case isn't going good. Detective Ogden suggests that it was maybe one of Victor Lugo's men who threatened Arthur. Danny goes along with that suggestion and then confirms that Arthur had indeed told his partner about being threatened which Detective Ogden confirms. Danny says that information was helpful, but something still isn't adding up. Danny tells Detective Ogden about the footage of Victor Lugo and Arthur Hines, but that the man on the video wasn't Victor Lugo, it was a man with a tattoo. Detective Ogden asks what kind of tattoo the man has and Danny dismisses the question saying that's it's not important. He goes to shake hands with Detective Ogden and reveals the same tattoo as the man on the tape. All the other officers in the precinct look in shock, as Danny asks Detective Ogden what is going on.
At a bar, Jimmy is celebrating with friends buying drinks for everybody. He sees Anthony at the bar and when he excuses himself to the bathroom, Anthony takes Jimmy away to have a man-to-man talk.
At Danny's precinct, Baez asks Danny how he knew about the tattoo. Danny admits that he saw it the first time they spoke. He then mentions that as soon as he confronted Detective Ogden about his tattoo, he lawyered up. Danny also says that he doesn't know if he thinks that Detective Ogden was working for Robert Cofey and he needs to figure out where he was at the time of the shooting. But since Detective Ogden's lawyer told him not to talk to detectives, Danny & Baez go after Detective Ogden's phone records instead.
Danny & Baez show up at Carol's house to ask her more questions. They ask her if Arthur ever mentioned anything odd about his partner. Carol denies this saying that even though Arthur and Patrick were partners, they would argue like an old married couple, but nothing serious. Baez asked if she and Detective Ogden got along. Carol nervously chuckles and asks directly what they're getting at. Baez tells her that they went to a neighbor who saw her give Arthur the thermos of coffee. Carol claimed she didn't to that a lot, but she liked to take care of her husband. Danny tells Carol that the neighbor had said that it was the first time ever she saw her do that and then says that he has a theory. Danny believes that Arthur was carrying his briefcase in his left hand and she handed him the coffee to his right hand, which is Arthur's shooting hand. Since both hands were full, Arthur couldn't grab his gun to protect himself. Carol starts to get angry and tells the detectives to leave. Baez then tells Carol that Arthur's last word was "coffee" which they thought was reference to Robert Coffe. Instead it was Arthur's way of telling that his wife had set him up to be murdered. Carol denies that even more and demands they leave again. Instead, Baez shows a video file of Patrick in the interrogation room admitting that he was having an affair with Carol and they plotted together to have Arthur murdered. Carol claims that he is lying and she is taken away by Danny.
At the District Attorney's office, Erin has been trying to contact Anthony all morning as the deadline to release Carlo looms. Anthony claims he was taking care of something and that nothing more needs to be done. Erin has no clue what Anthony is talking about saying that doing nothing means that they're not going to release Carlo and they're not going to drop the charges. Erin reminds him that they have to or the story will get leaked about Erin's potential personal bias. Anthony then announces that Dale Quinn has no case unless they make Jimmy look guilty as well. Erin doesn't know how that will happen since Jimmy didn't get locked up. Anthony then reveals that Jimmy confessed to stealing cars and sending them to Carlo. Erin asked why Jimmy would do that and Anthony tells her that some things are best not to be revealed.
In Frank's office, Frank is showing Garrett a video of Adam confessing to having Garrett swatted because he felt he was blackballed from the Commissioner for a Day program because he was blind. Garrett admitted that it would have been an honor for a blind person be Commissioner for a Day but the timing was wrong, and Frank agrees that Garrett was protecting him. Garrett declares he was just doing his job, which he is officially back in doing. Frank then congratulates Garrett on his first "collar" saying that he is a better cop than he thinks he is and tells him to get back to work.
At the Reagan family, the family are enjoying their Sunday dinner. As Nicky, Jack, & Sean are making jokes about how long the homily took at church, Erin scolds her nephews by telling them they're having a serious dinner. Danny tells her to relax and not worry about himself. Erin confirms this that nobody worries about Danny and Frank chimes in that Danny refers to himself in the third person. Danny confirms that he is OK. Jamie pipes up and says that is case is bothering him. Danny asks his brother what makes him say that and Jamie replies that he missed something. Danny asks again what did he miss and Jamie back pedals trying to squash the whole conversation. Danny presses the issue and then announces that it he was joking along with his brother. The looks on the rest of the family says otherwise and they continue to eat their meal.
