Star Wars Stories left and right, not everyone is a winner

Warning: Spoilers
"Bucketheads: A Star Wars Story" is a Canadian live action short film from 2018 that runs for slightly under 14 minutes and was written and directed by Marco Bossow and Andy Brown. Both have been pretty prolific in the camera department on other projects, but as the ones in charge not so much. And the reason why their work combined effort here is not entirely unknown is not really their talent, but rather the connection to perhaps the biggest safa in film history as you also see from the title. Like I said in the title of my review these Star Wars stories have been coming out so frequently in recent years that it feels it is more about quantity than quality now because apparently to many, the connection is enough. They don't need quality filmmaking. I am one who does though and that is why despite costumes, effects and sets being okay here, I was not won over. The story was just too weak. It dragged too much for my liking and for a film that does not even run for a quarter of an hour that is of course a negative deal breaker. The story was simply not good enough and would have fit in under 10 minutes too. It is basically about a group of Stormtroopers who have a prisoner with them as they are moving through a forest that will turn their world upside down. Now sounds a bit like a horror movie with dumb teenagers being replaced by Stormtroopers, but this is not the case. It is also broad daylight, so no horror component or something. The latter would not have fit together with Star Wars anyway I guess. All in all, I am a bit surprised about the pretty good rating here on imdb and also about the massive deal of awards recognition this has achieved, even if admittedly it looks like this was really submitted everywhere which takes a bit away from that. The film scored over a million views on Youtube in under 12 months, which may not be much for a music video, but for a fan film it is, even if it is about Star Wars. Oh well, I think I made my point that I did not like this one. The story on mercy near the end also did not really get me emotionally involved. Perhaps you will like it more. It is by no means a failure, but in my opinion, it is not good enough for a positive recommendation. Thumbs-down. Watch something else instead.
