I can see why some people really hated it: but still recommending.
LukeCustomer217 June 2019
Warning: Spoilers
I suspect this production was made by people who are not from around here. Perhaps Australians or something. Because there is an oddness to the entire thing that sticks out for American audiencess. There are several scenes in the first three episodes that are downright disturbing and a few that you just think, no American would ever come up with this. So I can see how some viewers got turned off. That being said I am going to have to recommend it because, over all, it seems to be a very kind show.

The story starts with our heroine Amanda who thinks she has a good life. Her sister is grating and her mom is Leslie Ann Warren, nuff said, but today she is achieving her life goal... getting married in *just* the right ceremony in the countryside. As you do on lifetime, she finds out her finance is cheating on her. After a hiss fit of entitled millennial proportions she rides off on a bike in her wedding dress and comes upon a renaissance fair, which she mistakes for a theme wedding. After she correctly points out one of the quotes the actor uses is not from Richard the third, everyone takes note including the wildly kind and hot David Poland (Lucas Neff) and sweet (Delilah) Mary Hollis Inboden. After a day at the faire where everyone has been nicer to Amanda that anyone in her family or any of her friends, Amanda decides to stay and join the renaissance faire.

In the most positive way, so far, this is a very kind show. Amanda might sound like an entitled millennial but the character is kinder than that. As she goes along she learns a lot about her self that she needed to learn, such as she acts just like her mother trying to tear everyone down by pretending to be "helping" and truly seems to regret those actions. Delilah takes Amanda under her wing and when Amanda's mom is suggesting to her that she needs plastic surgery, Delilah comes up and says, I think you're beautiful... in such a genuinely nice way. Finally not sure if her and David will become a thing yet, I think he wisely realizes at the moment she is not for him, but I look forward to that playing out.

Not terrible but...
DanielLewisFW23 July 2019
It was fairly unique so it has that going for it. I loved Raising Hope so I watched this because of Lucas Neff and the other characters mostly won me over. I was not thrilled with how it ended and I am not sure how they come up with a 2nd season. I can see how the ending could be satisfying to many it just was not to me. If you are bored and just looking for something new give it a go. If you want really high quality story telling maybe move on.

Really, it's not that bad...
yooniverse25 June 2019
There's definitely some novel change to the rom-com scenery here. Most characters are likable, with a few exceptions. Her realization of the shallow world she wants to leave behind/apart is believable, even if only when interacting with those from her privileged life who serve to provide contrast.

There are some genuinely funny scenes, though I can understand why some would find the humor crass. But I think that's the point--she's coming from a world that's prim and proper to a world of wild and raunchy, down-to-earth people.

Given the rather simple lighthearted basis for the show, I am doubtful that this will have enough material to go very far without jumping the shark. As it is, I can already see them trying to develop other characters to generate more story arcs, but unfortunately, they're not as interesting, and not adding much.

Approach to the material is completely appropriate
memeweaver10 June 2019
The premise for this show was so "out there" that I felt that I had to take a look.

There's obviously a simple girl-meets-boy premise in there that could have been bundled off into a by-the-numbers time-travel fantasy ... but in the first three episodes there is a surprising depth of supporting characters and a willingness to attack the material with the same combination of witty allusion and earthy prat-falling that you find in Shakespeare, that I hope this series finds legs for an extended run.

Overall a strong debut, with a cast of (to me) unknowns who are obviously quite invested in their roles. The writer is pacing the material well, and there is plenty of opportunity for the lead's family to interfere - there are certainly hints of the other characters' pre-Faire back-stories potential to work their way into the storyline.

deserved better writing
angelorwez12 August 2022
I keep wondering...if this show had better writers...could it be transformed into something...something worth watching...

coz it does feel like there's something here...but this version absolutely terrible...

bad acting...pointless plot...things just happen...you are not invested in the characters...

it's pathetic...it's bad..very bad...

Quirky, fun and light hearted
arbitonandson3 June 2019
Warning: Spoilers
This is a great little comedy. It doesn't take things too seriously and is a nice light hearted watch.

Amanda finds herself needing to get away from her perfect wedding when she finds her fiance cheating on her with another woman. She ends up at a renaissance fair where she finds a group of oddball characters who take her under their wing and give her the friendship she finds she is lacking amongst her rich friends.

The first two episodes follow her as she tries to come to terms with her situation and her pre-conceived notion of those often found at such fairs. You also get a glimpse into what is in store as it turns out the woman her boyfriend cheated with also has links to the fair and she has a grudge to bear against Amanda !!

The characters are a great mix and the comedy is well written without being over the top or in your face. There are no horrible laugh tracks and there is enough action to keep you entertained for the duration of each episode. You meet a lonely and power hungry queen, a camp Shakespeare who doesn't know his own plays, a mud wrestling pauper, a buxom washerwoman with a heart of gold, a ditzy but kind couple, a man who likes his stick and a drunk preacher man amongst many others.

Enjoy the laughs and don't over analyse it - you won't be disappointed.

Horrible just horrible
aesop197110 June 2019
There isn't one redeemable character in this show. The main character & her useless friends & family are annoying caricatures of self entitled millennials. The trailer sucks you in, but 10 minutes into the 1st episode I stopped watching immediately.

Well done in so many ways.

Warning: Spoilers
Well done. I have been a rennie since 1995. I started at games and now I am a merchant of note at one of the best festivals in the U.S. And I honestly feel they have got this right. Here is a cut and paste of my favourite scene thus far. (From ep1.) I think my favourite part so far is her first full day in the village, from the moment she says "Aye aye captain" thinking the words work, the music starts and she takes the map. Wandering through the village, a place that should never be part of her world, they got that so right. They have built her up as some one who would scoff at the environment, but it feels like with each step she appreciates what she sees just a bit more and evolves (gonna be a long journey though.) From psaltery to samurai to belly dancers, nothing historically correct but I can totally relate to the scenes. And they got the newbee look right. I have seen it often, from people I have met years back who could not believed they let themselves be dragged to a renn fest. I will be seeing those same people in just a few months in full apparel. I can watch this scene repeatedly. IMHO they definitely got it right.

You want quirky? This show is for you.

I'd have preferred a network that allows uncensored grown up language to air this but ok I can fill in the b****s!

Love it!!! Refreshing and hilarious.
kbmuhl25 June 2019
For those people saying the show is offensive? If you don't like it, then don't watch it! Yes, it is lewd and raunchy and sexist and makes fun of the serious world! It includes everyone from all over the spectrum. A rich 20 something female, gay couples, bi-racial couples, straight couples, single lonely Queen Elizabeth, and it has one very good lesson in it.. the show is about LIVING IN THE MOMENT. The renaissance faire troupe employees all care about each other like a family and support each other. Support many of them couldn't get in their past lives. Be open minded when watching this show and don't bash it because it offends you. Just change the channel. And by the way, I am a female.

smlupinski9 July 2019
As with any new show, it took the first 2 episodes to fully get the whole gist of everything going on, and I'm hooked! The characters are all semi relatable, and the chemistry between them all is great! Cannot wait for season 2
