A Snob, A Sheep, & A Normie
wop-3152923 December 2022
Warning: Spoilers
Plot: Three gals who would likely never be friends take a road trip to... the woods? Here, they are stalked by a masked killer looking for internet clout.

Cast: Heather is a "fake on the outside" girl who is obsessed with social media. Riley is a "sad on the inside" girl who always sides with Big Tech, Big Government, and the Mainstream Media (basically the opposite of punk rock). Sam is a "down to Earth" girl with a recently troubled past. The supporting cast consists of a bumbling moron who works as a park ranger, a highly accurate and efficient killer EXCEPT when it comes time to kill a lead and he turns into a bumbling moron, and another bumbling moron who works as a park ranger.

Visuals: I enjoyed the camera work in this film. The cuts were spliced together nicely and there were some really cool shots, like one into a tent.

Audio: The underlying music made this nearly unwatchable. While it is intentionally jarring, that doesn't change the fact that it's... well, jarring. If you purposefully cook a bad burger then people are going to say it's a bad burger, right?

Performances: The acting was pretty good and much better than I expected it to be. I assume the goal of the writer was to make you hate Heather and Riley and they do a dayumed fine job of portraying that. Fortunately, Sam is a very likeable character and she ends up becoming the primary protagonist by the end.

Overall: I feel this movie would have actually been good if The Wolf had been more effective. There are no stakes once you see the killer would rather give 10 minute speeches like an 80s spy villain to the leads than, ya know, be a killer. When all of the lead characters survive by the end of a Horror film, you kind of know the movie has failed its audience.

Watch at your own risk
Rickinator693 April 2022
This had a 7.6 with 5 voters at the time of this writing. I know what that usually means but was surprised to see no 10 star "reviews." I debated for an hour or two while web surfing, then finally decided to check it out. It should be interesting to see what others think.

ive seen worse...but not by much
lonermon-826916 April 2022
First off the audio is atrocious i think its meant to inspire tension but it comes off as just annoying and overly loud. The acting is okay . Not great , not horrible . In the beginning there is a comment about it being interactive , but there's nothing else about it mentioned . Did they forget to put it in ? There is only the barest of character development. Not worth wasting time watching .

Obviously terrible
dynastyfilms7 April 2022
You can tell all the "10/10" reviews are fake because this is mysteriously the only movie those "users" have rated. Don't watch this movie it's terrible.

I reset my password just to tell you not to bother
hammersb3 April 2022
Looking for a horror movie that will get your blood pumping! Well this isn't that I couldn't find a single scary scene whatsoever, the 8bit music was just terribly annoying and too loud. The actresses have promise but the movie isn't even a 1/10.

Really bad movie
adm33426 April 2022
I'm usually pretty tolerant and don't usually give bad reviews but this movie is just BAD. Maybe there are some good ideas there, maybe, but the execution is terrible/basic/undeveloped; bad acting and direction, shallow characters and narrative, completely unsatisfying. The good "reviews" here are trying to paint a good picture of a movie that's essentially a mess.

This is a bad, bad movie
mikeehrmantraut-389083 April 2022
I couldn't find a single thing to prop it up. The acting, the dialogue, the direction, even the music was terrible. And I found the character so unlikable I was rooting for the stalker! And the rating system is all wonky. 7.6 here and 3-4 everywhere else. ??? Avoid this one and pick up the dog poop in your yard and your time will be much better spent.

This movie sucks
I did not enjoy this film. While it was edited and shot fantastically, it still misses the mark. The plot has holes. It comes to a very abrupt end. The acting is maybe a solid C. Really felt this movie had potential but just took the wrong turn at every moment. Not sure if they considered adding 20-30 mins into it but that would have given the chance of ending better. Characters weren't likable, they were actually super annoying. Just watch an episode of black mirror.

I would fall asleep on the trailer
kalenderov3 April 2022
I would fall asleep on the trailer. His budget must be $ 5.50. It seems that relatives and colleagues voted initially so that his assessment could be so high. I guess it will drop to 2.8 though.

Laughable
jbennet18 May 2022
Warning: Spoilers
And once again, a current movie - no matter which genre it pretends to belong to - turns out to be nothing else than a vehicle for the "progressive" views of the producers (and their wage slaves, called script writers).

One example tells you all: At a gas station, one of the women gets verbally extremly aggressive towards the owner, beause he has - prepare for the worst! - a sign on the wall which reads "Trump".

Got it? Orange man bad etc.

And the list goes on and on and on...

My A$$!

Avoid at all costs!

I mean...
VelvetUnd3rmine5 April 2022
I thought it was really sick-

the making of the real-life Instagram/social media accounts is really interesting and I think a lot of movies will start doing that in the near future, to be honest....

It also reminded me a lot of the Gaby Petito & Crystal Turner/Kylen Schulte disappearance/murder cases- so watch if you're into true crime!

Anyway- Nice to actually be pleasantly surprised after draining all of what streaming platforms had to offer over quarantine. I can't tell you how many movies I've bailed on in the first 20 minutes, and I thought it was a good one!

Nope
chad-613131 May 2022
63 minutes is not a movie. It's one episode of a series. If you're going to make a movie at least put some effort into it. It's like the writers got so bored they decided to end it after 63 minutes. And can you get decent actors for a change. I mean three dogs would've been better entertainment!

The motto for these ladies with every man they come across or have known. Creepy. Every male in existence is always referred to as a creep or creepy 😂.

Very low budget video not movie
m0ba04 April 2022
I was falling asleep throughout the video. I call it a video because it's far away from being a movie. Didn't get scared or anything. It was boring and don't get me started on the bad acting. Music is really annoying. Nothing horror about it. If you are trying to sleep i recommend watching this video. Great for night night.

Not Bad!

Warning: Spoilers
Liked it and not just because one of my family members is in it.

The scene of the guy in the room with a laptop is one of the scenes that captured my attention. If this film were to be remade, I would suggest leaving out the "politics" because it deviates from the plot .-No offense! It just didn't to fit in. The scenes where the young woman is being tormented was well done, her expression of terror was very convincing. Also one line I thought was interesting and that is where the "Follower" says something about his victum not liking him..This gives the impression they might have known each other somehow.

At least they tried
washburneffect10 April 2022
Warning: Spoilers
There was no emotion in this film which took me out of it. The idea is good but the delivery is poor. With that said at least they tried and made a movie. Also Why didn't they just take the truck after they offed that dude?

A breath of fresh air in the horror genre
ashleyoniel6 April 2022
Follower represents progress in the depiction of women in slasher films.

On the surface, it's a well-made independent horror film; however, its beauty lays beneath the surface that beauty is showing strong female characters that band together to fight evil instead of being pawns that get murdered.

A Modernization Of The Slasher Trope
debbiepeterson-911906 April 2022
It makes sense that the negative reviews for this film come from the same basement dwellers it calls out, most likely upset they didn't get to see the character's breasts.

Follower is the first slasher film I've seen that, instead of painting the female leads as weak and helpless, shows them as courageous and strong. Not to mention a slasher film that finally passes the Bechdel test.

A FUN Film
sarahl-124876 April 2022
Follower is a fun-to-watch film. It's got a fresh take on a dusty old genre that needed some revamping.

The interactive component of the film adds a new layer of excitement, and the shorter runtime is a definite bonus.

I think the new components of this film represent where the future of streaming-based films are heading.

thelivingshadow6 April 2022
Overall this was honestly pretty cool. I didn't expect it to be but I was surprised.

I'm not sure why this is getting so much hate but I thought it was suspenseful and well made. Would definitely recommend.

Great Modern Day Horror Film
HunterL7837 April 2022
Watched on my plane ride and it made my flight go super quick. Love the suspense of the movie and it was honestly scary because this could easily happen in the society we live in today, with social media continuing to grow. I enjoyed how it was a little over and hour because I didn't find a dull moment. The younger generations growing up with social media should definitely watch this.

The cinematography alone sells this film
moviesforlyfe835726 April 2022
I'm quite surprised there are poor reviews on this film. The cinematography alone is reason enough to watch it. James Rich really had an artistic vision and it shows. I also enjoyed the fact that it was on the shorter end as I feel like 3 hour movies are on the out. The interactive element could be fleshed out more but definitely makes for something innovative and exciting! I don't think this is the last we'll see of this concept. I am looking forward to the return of the main actresses in a sequel.

A sign there is still real independent cinema out there
mayab-810747 April 2022
Being in the horror genre, this film is up against a passionate crowd of people who have essentially surrendered to being fed garbage that was derived from original films made since 1978. Anytime a new filmmaker tries tinkering with the genre, instead of being applauded, they are criticized... Well, I applaud Follower and respect the experience that is the film. No, it's not a big studio horror film, but nor should it be judged as such. If anything, any cinema lover should support this film as it shows there are still actual independent filmmakers out there.

The film's duration is just 65 minutes, and the interactive aspect keeps the film engaging. I read a review in which the person criticized the film because they couldn't figure out the interactive component; what BS! You literally just follow the characters on Instagram when prompted, and it adds a fun new dimension to the film.

Long story short, this is a film worth watching, celebrating even.
