Great Light breezy entertainment
gmariashopping27 May 2022
Just watched it and it's a great entry for people that haven't seen it. The animation was next level here, and you can see they put much more money into it. The plot and storylines were nice and simple. Great movie!

The sunny side of summer

The Bob's Burgers Movie is an adaptation of one of my favorite TV shows of all time, I was curious and interested to see how they would bring this to the big screen, and it paid off, this movie was a great adaptation of an iconic TV series.

The Bob's Burgers Movie has a wonderful and very interesting plot and it's built like a crime thriller put in a musical comedy, these 4 things blended perfectly with each other and it has surprisingly good musical numbers, that was a fresh new idea and I loved it, this movie is hilarious while also being very suspenseful at times, with high stakes and upgraded animation, and some of the most suspenseful scenes I've seen in years.

The Bob's Burgers Movie is a great adaptation of a perfect TV show, and I'm gonna give it an A-

Not too bad
skaterryan1227 May 2022
Believe it or not, I've never seen the show before but love seeing movies so gave this a try. Wasn't too bad at all actually. Going to start watching the show because of it so I'm going to assume if a newcomer liked the movie then I'm sure the fans of the actual show will definitely like it. Kind of wish it had a bigger feel like Simpson's Movie and Beavis and Butthead Do America had, but the plot was fine as it was.

Fun but I expected more
mhygnkcjs1 June 2022
I enjoyed it, but felt I could have waited for it to come to TV.

A few of the most beloved and funniest characters were missing, most notably Gayle. It felt like they concentrated too much on making big thrilling action where I would have preferred to see more character drama, as the characters are what make the show so loveable. They did do some with Louise's character and I enjoyed that.

There were funny parts but very few that made me actually laugh out loud like the TV show does. Seemed like they could have let loose a little more and be more "themselves", rather than trying so hard to be movie-ish, if that makes sense.

Meets expectations
guskeller28 May 2022
The Bob's Burgers Movie meets expectations. It's funny, purposeful, and developed enough to maintain investment. Fundamentally, it's a murder mystery, but also intertwines Bob's money issues (which is the emotional force). Plus, Louise is intrinsically motivated to prove her bravery, making her the main protagonist and giving her the clearest arc. Bob's Burgers doesn't have the tightest crafted humor, but these dynamic characters help it connect emotionally. The film is still lighthearted and silly (with skilled setup and payoff), but it peppers in enough drama to create substance. Thus, Bob's Burgers succeeds because it delivers a sincere combination of laughs and relatability.

Technically, Bob's Burgers is proficient. Surprisingly, there are musical numbers that heighten the soundtrack, cinematography, editing, and direction. There is dramatic lighting, framing, and camerawork. Also, passing cuts, smash cuts, and time lapses help the comedic rhythm. Furthermore, voice acting is ranged, animation is personal, and CGI is supportive. Punchlines are heightened by exaggerated music, transitions, and surrealism. Overall, the filmmaking reinforces the humorous mood. It isn't high art, but it possesses consistent craft. Therefore, Bob's Burgers is a fairly enjoyable experience. Viewers should expect skilled comedy and decent emotions.

Writing: 7/10 Direction: 6/10 Cinematography: 8/10 Acting: 7/10 Editing: 8/10 Sound: 7/10 Score/Soundtrack: 8/10 Production Design: 7/10 Casting: 7/10 Effects: 7/10

Overall Score: 7.2/10.

It's ok
mjsreg12 July 2022
I like the TV series so thought this would be a great movie to watch. Nut for me it didn't hot the spot.

I found the movie quite long and tedious to watch. I think the problem is the musical numbers. They seem to dominate and really take away from the core humour that I experience in the series.

If yu are a die-hard fan you may love the movie.

So much fun!
dthorup27 May 2022
As a long time fan of the show, this movie was unreal! You don't have to be a fan of this show in order to appreciate or enjoy it at all. The three musical numbers were so joyful, the story was nothing but fun, and the daily element really makes an enjoyable time out at the theater.

too long, too much filler
digdog-785-71753812 July 2022
You really venture out of known territory when you abandon a format, and there is no guarantee that a 1h40m film will be as good as a half-hour show, if made with the same material.

And this film is the proof of that.

The Bob's Burgers Movie has the plot elements of a single Bobs Burgers episode, stretched thin, and filled with mediocre songs.

Honestly, i can tolerate the plot, but i can't take the songs.

The TV show itself has plenty of musical numbers, they are bad, awkward songs that are fun because they are the imagination of the bad, awkward characters that populate the show. It makes no sense to try to flesh them out into full-length, musical-film songs because they lose that sense of horrid charm that they have in the TV show.

My vote: 6/10 - best stick with the show and ignore the movie.

Surprisingly entertaining, even the 2nd time around
bostonct28 May 2022
Never watched a full episode, just maybe a few minutes as I was channel surfing but this was a very entertaining movie. What made it unique were the constant quips and cleaver responses to the situation, and it was pretty much through almost the entire movie. Listen and enjoy the dialogue, had me smiling throughout the entire movie. I suspected I missed a lot since the puns and funnies are fast and furious, and it was the case. Even more fun the 2nd time around.

Too Many Storylines & Lack of Big Feel
actaction27 May 2022
I love that this felt like a long Bob's Burger's episode and that they kept to the snappy dialogue rather than a big goofy action premise (like The Simpson Movie did). We come for the jokes, not the budget, after all. However, there is a need for the films stakes to be bigger than normal and while the sinkhole did provide what could have been a major challenge, it's forgotten pretty early for a concept that could just be a regular episode. The mystery of whodunit is really really easy to solve. Lots of characters are missing here from the main plot (Hugo gets one measly scene). Emotionally, there are a couple of big moments (mostly from the big hero here in Louise's origin story), but most characters plots are just not that interesting or explored (an ongoing crush, a redo of a band, a burger cart). They're all fine ideas... just too many of them and not enough to make it feel like a cinema experience. I recall the episode where Bob had a fight with his dad and we learn about Big Bob's Diner... that felt bigger than anything here. Oh and by the way... Bob is missing or catatonic for waaaaaay to much of the film. The film almost forgets about him until he finally gets into the action at the end. The film needed more repeat characters, more guest characters that could hide the mystery & a focus more on one common mystery that all the characters join in on. Think Goofy Movie or Simpsons Movie, just in town and dialogue based. Anyway, didn't hate it... just wasn't quite as big as I was hoping the film would be.

Everything I wanted in a bobs burgers movie
nurrefa28 May 2022
The movie is consistently hilarious throughout the entire run-time. The music was decently enjoyable with just the right amount of songs sprinkled throughout the movie. The plot wasn't super grandiose, but it really didn't need to be. Still larger in scope than the average episode. All the characters were likable and positive too, which isn't common with adult animated shows anymore. Just an amazing time from beginning to end.

Pickle My Funny Bone Burger
southdavid29 May 2022
I'm a big fan of the series and have to admit that my anticipation for the movie has been growing since it's announcement. Whilst I'd be the first to admit that it's not much more than an ambitious episode of the show, for me that was more than enough.

With the bank about to foreclose on their cooking equipment, the last thing that Bob (H Jon Benjamin) and Linda Belcher (John Roberts) need is a giant sinkhole to open right outside the door to the restaurant and stop any customers from getting in. Their misery is compounded when a body is found in the hole and it becomes an active crime scene. Meanwhile all three Belcher children are undergoing a crisis of confidence. Tina (Dan Mintz) is unable to take the next step and ask Jimmy Jnr (Benjamin again) to be her summer boyfriend. Gene (Eugene Mirman) is not as confident that his band are ready for their gig as they might be and Tina (Kristen Schall) is debating whether it's time to finally lose the bunny ears that have been her trademark since preschool.

Animation-wise, like "The Simpsons movie" before it, it sticks close to the style of the show, but add in a few expensive looking 3D CGI scenes for buildings and vehicles. Over the years, the show has become increasingly musical, so it's not surprising that there are several excellent songs in this run. I do think that they were a step up on the songs in the series too, proper catchy numbers.

I would say I thought that the second half of the film was stronger than the first, not that the first half was bad, but it has a lot of work to do to set up the various strands of the story that all come together in the second half. That worked for me though, and the moments I remember laughing at were all generally in that second half.

Do you need to see it on the silver screen? Perhaps not, but when it hits Disney Plus in a couple of months, it's essential viewing.

Dialed Back Too Much
Agent1013 July 2022
As an avid fan of Bob's Burgers, I definitely had some hopes and trepidation about this movie. I was hoping it would be like a frenetic, 90-minute episode. But there was also the fear that too many things might be changed for the hopes of making something "accessible." Unfortunately, the second part was what happened.

Now the story is fine enough, yet another story surrounding the Belcher's inability to keep up with their bills. The kids go on an adventure to help the family and hijinks ensue. The foundation is there for sure. However, there is just too many "buts" for my taste.

Let's start with the songs. Typically, songs within the show are pretty spontaneous and weird, and this is really the strength of the series. And then we get that first song....and it is endlessly awful. Maybe it was the improved animation that just made it weird looking, or just the rather lame lyrics. I don't know. This was a recurring problem, as each song was just more uninteresting than the last. That last song in the submarine room....woof! In all honesty, these were the biggest sins of the movie.

The other problem...it was scaled back for general audiences. The kids are not as mouthy, the double entendres are gone, the innuendo is missing and just the energy is gone. While this sort of thing is built more for the half hour format, there was virtually no sight of this energy in the movie. I only assume the regular writers were exempt from the show to make it easier to sell to kids.

Maybe I am expecting too much, but the shortcomings of this movie was very similar to The Simpsons movie. Maybe half hour shows should not be brought to the movie screen.

GREAT show, only an alright movie
jackmanb-7184614 July 2022
I've been a fan of the show for years, having seen basically every episode. Sometimes more than once. So I was very excited for the movie and will admit that I had a high standard for it. I try not to be overly critical of a movie adaptation of a show, but I couldn't help it with my favorite animated show.

The movie felt like it was made for those who haven't seen much of the show, taking a lot of time introducing character traits that fans of the show are very familiar with. I understand that it's necessary, but it just felt boring. They wanted to make an exciting, edge of your seat mystery with high stakes. Which is hard to get behind when your know that their going to come out on top in the end. The best episodes are not edge of your seat, their when the family experiences something new and relatable, learning lessons along the way. The Belchers are the same at the beginning as they are at the end. Some of the jokes were funny, some of them weren't.

Overall, I'm a little disappointed by this one. I'm glad I watched it, but wish I had a little more fun doing it. Conflict was always going to be the center piece, but the show seems to have more fun with it than the movie. I disliked the musical bits, which were too long for me. With that said, each member of the family did have their own goals and desires that we watched them accomplish. Putting a three act structure to a show that's 20 minutes long is a tough task, and they clearly did their best. Good idea, poor execution.

Automatically lose 50% of audience by making it a musical
emperorsclothes20 July 2022
I really like this show. I'm not a huge fan of musicals. Sometimes I love them, but rarely. Not sure what the thinking was to make the first Bob's movie a musical. If it was purely a musical show, sure, but otherwise it's a very bad decision.

A Nice Snack
rr-5681122 August 2022
Viewed on Hulu.

Based upon the now long running TV series, this film adaptation sees a sinkhole opening up in front of the Belcher's family burger joint, crippling their business just in time for them to pay off their bank loan debt, and even embroiling them in a cold case murder mystery.

It ultimately feels like a longer, better animated, episode of the TV series, so how you'll feel about it depends on how well you like the show. It's not my favorite animated comedy, but it usually gets a few chuckles out of me & the movie hits the same beats.

For fans, it will probably suffice. For me, it was incredibly mediocre.
nicolasroop3 June 2022
Now this was a strange movie. I enjoy the show from time to time, but there are times where the show wheres it's shtick rather thin. That is how The Bob's Burgers Movie felt. A rather thin storyline put together for the sake of it. It also seems to enjoy laying in the shadow of what made The Simpson's Movie work so well. The characters that pop up randomly, the doomsday type of plot and the dialog that seemed like it would've been better left in the 22 minute episodes. Also, it wasn't very funny. Chuckle worthy at best. I was disappointed with that aspect greatly. However, if you are a fan of Bob's Burgers, I feel like you might enjoy it more than I did. Just be prepared for more of the same as what the show offers, as opposed to going for something more than the sum of the tv show. 2.5 burger bikinis out of 5.

OK but unnecessary - the show is better
jamesrupert20145 October 2022
When Louise discovers a body in a sinkhole in front of the restaurant, the family gets involved in a mystery that could lead to the final closure of Bob's Burgers. The movie version of the popular show is fine but, not surprisingly, little effort was made to develop the well-established characters, so anyone not familiar with the TV show may find the film neither engaging nor particularly humourous (Bob talking to food is a long running gag that would be lost on neophytes). The plot is a retread of the season 4 double-episode 'Wharfhorse/The Wharfening', which I thought were funnier and better written than was the movie. There was too much singing, especially at the end, and the dancing cartoon characters quickly got tiresome (especially Grover Fischoeder). Many of the musical interludes in the TV show are fun, clever, and catchy (notably the Bob-Louise duet in 'Glued, where's my Bob') but the film's songs were too long and burned though time that could have been better used to bring in more of the show's plethora of quirky characters (there was too much Grover, too little Marshmallow). The voice talent is as good as always and I doubt that most fans of the show will really dislike the movie incarnation but many, like me, may be a bit disappointed.

Then it got dark...
lusciousmuffins12 July 2022
While certainly not the most ardent Bob's Burgers fan, I do enjoy the actors, the animation, and most of the writing.

The idea of a Bob's Burgers movie was, however, hard to picture in my mind.

Turns out this film is essentially an expanded re-visitation of a plotline that has already been extensively explored through the TV series.

Truly, a lack of originality is this movie's Achille's Heel.

Apart from the tiny fraction of individuals who will show up to theaters with no knowledge of the TV series that spawned it, most viewers will find the main storyline of this movie, as well as all the ancillary ones, very familiar.

While carrying some threads over from the show is expected, this script failed to include enough new concepts to keep it stimulating.

Harsh as it may sound, I believe this is a film many people will actually be happier watching at home, where they can pause it when it starts to drag.

One other thing that stood out about this film was how very disturbing it got in a couple of spots.

I am actually not typically a fan of trigger warnings, but this movie probably could use at least one.

In the interest of avoiding a spoiler tag, I will type no more on the topic; suffice to say, there is more darkness in this film than you find in the vast majority of goofy, animated comedies.

Considering the production in its entirety, this was an enjoyable movie.

There were some laugh out loud bits and some very cool designs introduced around the Warf.

Alas, despite the bright spots, this was a mediocre showing that feels like it was hastily constructed and rushed through theaters.

If the reason for all that is that it was intended for the small screen, then that is where it should have remained.

Amazing! Classic Belchers!
tycono28 May 2022
I've never gone to see a movie opening weekend, but for the Belchers It had to happen! I loved the multiple story lines that all tied together just like with the show. The attention to detail in the animations with them being on the big screen! Extremely possible this is in my top five favorite movies. Cannot wait for the new season!

can the kids save the folks...again?
ksf-215 July 2022
Fans of bobs burgers are going to love it! The belcher family runs a burger joint in new england, and they are behind on the bills. They need some way to raise money fast. When a sink hole opens up in front of their restaurant, a murder victim is exposed. And now it's up to the kids to solve it. It's a musical. With a bunch of silly songs and fun lyrics. The usual cast of wacky friends and neighbors. Fun. And stick around for a silly scene at the very end of the ending credits. Currently showing on hbo. UPDATE: also showing on disney, since disney bought some of the fox operations!

What could have been.....
jordan-4990212 July 2022
Warning: Spoilers
I am a huge fan of the TV series and enjoy almost all the episodes. I even introduced it to my son and we watched every episode that is currently available. I had high expectations for this movie based on the series and more so after I read reviews that is was generally well liked.

Well I think I may have watched a different movie than the people that liked this movie. My may complaint is all the musical numbers. I know the show has musical components from time to time and singing but movie was over the top. I think they may have topped Disney's musical love. Note that I am not a huge fan of musicals so my opinion is bias. The movie also felt slow, almost as though the creators were just dragging out a regular episode. I will say that I thought the mobile burger device Teddy made was really cool. It reminded me of the food truck episode which is one of my favs.

Overall, I suppose I am just disappointed that it was not a better movie. The bar was high and they fell short.

I love this movie, just not my favourite
senannaughton1 June 2023
This movie is a great way to make a movie from a tv show, it dosen't feel like a stretched episode or anything. The plot also feels natural and not too extreme. For example, in the Loud House movie, it's way too hyped and has like 0 relation to the show for for this movie, it had relation to the show with a great way of telling a story.

I find the kids trying to save the restaurant very entertaining. Louise definitely stole the show with her arc if being called a baby so she tries to prove everybody wrong. I find the sinkhole stuff entertaining with a great murder mystery aspect. I'm not going to say who it is so you can see it yourself. I like Teddy trying to save the restaurant with Bob and Linda because it shows how loyal of a friend Teddy really i. Though I didn't really care for Tina and Jimmy Jrs relationship tbh, not enough scenes for me to care. They kind of forgot Gene was a character so they brought back the Itty Bitth Dittee Comitee which was a nice callback but like Tina and Jimmy Junior, not enough scenes for me to care.

I wish there were more characters like Jimmy Pesto, I get the score was fired but they could've found an actor for the movie. I wish there was also more of Aunt Gayle

All of this can be forgiven with a great story and music. Wish there was more music but the music in this movie slaps I love it

Overall, if you have Disney and haven't watched the movie yet, go watch it it's great for fans like me.
