Expected something different
Jackbv12330 August 2023
If you like comedy which exaggerates, especially about all the humorous pitfalls of meeting the family and wedding planning, then you will love this. I don't. I have a particular dislike for that time of comedy. I don't think Bart Johnson as Steve, the bride's dad, helped my outlook on this movie. I think he was over the top even for this kind of movie.

I expected something that would emphasize how a strong and loving father helps a daughter to grow up strong. That theme was definitely there. I just didn't expect it to be in a movie where families from two different cultures meet and plan a wedding.

The story follows a lot of the usual lines for that type of movie. The comedy is about dad embarrassing himself, not to mention being unreasonable and demanding. I guess it did that well enough. Then toward the end, as you'd expect, it turns serious and half the characters change their personalities 180 degrees.

Disappointed by Bart Johnson performance.
insightcoursesuk1 August 2022
This was a good movie that's been ruined by terrible acting. Bart Johnson was intolerable and was just trying too much throughout the entire movie. I have personally loved the cinematography and the storyline but this is one of those movies that are decent but just ruined by an amateur (aka coach Bolton) being put as the main cast.

Mediocre movie
12101968kaw13 February 2024
This movie was all over the board. It's mediocre at best. They made the dad out to be the bad guy when I felt like it was more of the fiancé. The mom let the dad be bad cop all the time. I don't like how the dad had a change of heart in basically the snap of the fingers. This movie was such a downer and I hated the way it ended. Happily Ever After - maybe. They barely know each other and then to go and do mission work for 3 years?? I feel like this movie would be better as a book so it could explore each character more. The characters are complicated and I felt like they just quickly tied up the ending without really solving anything.

Great film for the whole family!
susannav729 November 2023
I was browsing through PureFlix and came across this film. I am pleasantly surprised how good this is. It's a great balance of drama and comedy that conveys the importance of a father-daugher relationship. With a stellar cast and good directing, this movie had me crying and laughing and remembering what a wonderful dad I had. It shows how really important it is for dads to be involed on their kid's lives. This movie definitely needs to be seen by the whole family. Afterwards, it might be helpful to have a family discussion. Parents, make sure to tell your kids how much you love them. So glad I took the time to watch it.

This film carries a message of hope, love, and letting go.
Cover-Lover1 August 2022
STRONG FATHERS, STRONG DAUGHTERS is such a fun, inspiring, and meaningful film. Based on the New York Times bestselling book, by Dr. Meg Meeker, the film focuses on a wealthy businessman, Steve Parston, and his three daughters. Steve has dreamed of building a strong business with his eldest daughter since she was a child, so when the perfect opportunity arises, he expects things to fall right into place. The problem is, his daughter, now a grown woman has other dreams, other plans.

This is such a fun film, and the Parston family is easy to relate to, with a workaholic dad, supportive mom, and three unique daughters who each have different needs and dreams. There are many poignant scenes between this father and his daughters as he tries desperately to hold some assemblance of control over their lives.

I love the blend of angst, fear, adventure, trust, control, passion, and love this film encompasses. And although it provides plenty of laughs, it also reaches deep into viewers hearts, touching spiritual and meaningful places. It showcases the importance our earthly father and our Heavenly Father carries in our lives.

I loved this film. The story is so touching that something as simple as a solitary balloon at the end brought tears to my eyes. It carries gentle yet powerful messages of hope, love, and letting go.

Letting go and letting God...

Strong Fathers, Strong Daughters
amybooksy3 August 2022
I thought Strong Fathers, Strong Daughters to be a fun and entertaining movie to watch. It was so quirky at times that made me giggle and laugh out loud. As a parent myself, it is never easy to watch our "babies" grow. It was funny to see some of the antics and lengths the dad would go to protect his daughters. There were some heartwarming moments and some lessons that parents and children could learn together. I found the movie to be a delight to watch that was full of faith, inspiration and the beauty and power of forgiveness.

I am giving Strong Fathers, Strong Daughters a very well deserved ten plus stars. I highly recommend it for families of all ages.

I received an early screen link of Strong Fathers, Strong Daughters from Pure Flix, but was not required to write a positive review. This review is one hundred percent my own honest opinion.

Wonderful Family Films
crazi-swans4 August 2022
A fun, heartfelt film about growing up and letting go based on the best-selling book of the same title by Dr. Meg Meeker.

Steve has worked hard to give his daughters the best in life, but when his oldest daughter returns home from a mission trip engaged and with a change of heart about her future, it is hard for him to accept.

I enjoyed watching this movie with my family and I thought that it did a good job of balancing the serious with the lighthearted moments. I especially liked Oz's parents, they were so gracious and kind, taking everything in stride and offering support. I liked how they used comedy to bring out the struggles that Steve was having with holding on and letting go of his daughters, as well as the strong themes of family, faith, and growing up.

Overall, such a well done movie for families with older daughters, with great truths for everyone. A wonderful film about the changes that come with growing up, and supporting your daughters at every stage.

Heartwarming, hilarious, and oh so real!

A wonderful film about fathers and daughters. As a father of two little girls I will say it was a wonderful message about the importance of pursuing your daughters, guarding their hearts, and then trusting that God loves them more than you do. It had a great storyline, phenomenal acting, and hopefully it causes every dad to think a little more about the importance of his relationships with his daughters.

Entertaining and relatable family movie
kirkola-8790822 January 2023
Caught this movie now playing on a red-eye AA flight and was entertained. The message resonates with any parent whose kids grow up and find their own path in life. The theme is similar in some other recent movies like Father of the Bride and is based on a top selling book.

Some pretty good acting keeps the movie going forward and particularly, Brandon Prado, shines in his role as son-in-law to be with a nice mix of drama and comedy. The interplay between him and the father and daughter capture the awkwardness of new families coming together. Fully expect to see more of him in the movies or TV.

An Emotional Depiction Of The Ups And Downs Of A Father/Daughter Relationship
rannynm3 August 2022
Strong Fathers, Strong Daughters teaches important lessons about family values. This family-friendly movie doesn't only benefit children, it also teaches fathers about letting go of their daughters, and to know when to step in to ensure a positive future. Based on the bestselling book Strong Fathers, Strong Daughters by author Dr. Meg Meeker, the movie shares heartwarming values that make the whole family comfortable watching it together.

Actors Robyn Lively and Bart Johnson play Connie and Steve, the parents to Zoey, Abby, and Bridget in the movie. The movie starts with Abby, the oldest daughter, coming home from a business trip and surprising the family with the fact that she's engaged. Not only is she giving up her career path at her dad's office, but she is also running away to Africa with her future husband to care for the poor as missionaries with the church. Steve struggles with finding a way to let Abby accomplish her own dreams and start a new path, instead of continuing the dream they have always had together, even the dreams of what her future wedding would look like.

Robyn and Bart who play the believable role of husband and wife, are married outside of the movie, it turns out! I can imagine how this would add more depth to their roles. Abby and her fiance Oz are played by Carrie Wampler and Brandon Prado. While these are the main characters, other actors that are important to the movie include Kayla DiVenere (as Zoey), Arden Myrin (as Crystal), David Barrera (as Carlos), and Maria Canals-Barrera (as Bella.) This movie is funny to watch, and the set design is exciting and colorful. Learning about the Mexican culture through the bright colors and fun decorations was also very interesting. The writing seemed predictable, though, without too many major twists. Not to give any spoilers, but I could imagine how it would end from the beginning.

The message of this movie is that families can persevere to solve different problems and to build strong futures together. Strong Fathers, Strong Daughters has alcohol consumption and breaking the rules with social media. In one scene, a daughter sneaks out to a party with boys against parent permission.

I give Strong Fathers, Strong Daughters 4 out of 5 stars and recommend it for ages 12 to 18, plus adults. You can watch it on Pure Flix starting on August 1, 2022. By Samantha P., KIDS FIRST!
