Emma Is On A Lot of Meds
wandernn1-81-68327417 August 2021
I love both the actresses we start with here in scene 1. Lili Rabe, so great in American Horror Story and Amy Brenneman who started out , or at least stood out in Season 1 of NyPD Blue, possibly the best cop show of all time. Went on to have her own show even in Judging Amy which was a pretty good show for the time.

Okay so I gather that Karen....is going into witness protection or something as EMMA. Then we have flashbacks of her with Kit. The lover of her life.

+1 Star for Emma taking care of business in the bathroom That was fun. So apparently Emma doesn't know the meaning of keeping it on the downlow.

Emma/ Karen broke up with Kit while he's in Prison. Apparently they have a lot of history I'm sure is going to be explored via flashbacks.

St. James Louisiana!!! Awww snap. Chris Parker killed himself in Prison. Her love. Emma/ Karens love, offed himself. Because she broke up with him.

Ahhh I see now. So Mary...has a missing daughter, Theresa and is convinced that Emma / Karen is the one that took her but she can't prove it.

And there we go. 6/10.

Interesting Pilot Episode

I really enjoyed this episode. The only expectation I had was for it to be at the very least intriguing with enough going on with the characters to make me want to watch further. It met that expectation for me. I really felt for both Jess and "Emma", and valued their unlikely and unexpected budding friendship, but could only hold my breath the more time they spent together in anticipation for what could only be potentially lurking around the corner due to Emmas past. A good foundation has been set for the grieving mothers story so my interest is peaked to see what exactly happened to her daughter. It's a good watch so far.

[5.5] What an unlikable character
cjonesas24 August 2021
A very slow and sort of weak episode with snail pace flow, unmemorable acting and above all a depressed shredded storyline. It lacks intensity and believable plots. Nothing and nobody contribute to it or lift it up.

I think that would drag more or less the same for 10 episodes. We'll see.

Absurdly unbelievable

I understand that sometimes you have to suspend disbelief to become fully engrossed in a storyline, but c'mon bro!

That whole diner scene (Episode 1) with the teenage foster girl who acted like a 7 year old was beyond ridiculous. To the point that it seemed as if no one involved has ever been around teenagers before. It was also insanely obvious why the scene was shoe-horned in. I find it baffling that a director would ever choose THAT to be a major catalyst for the plot. It only got worse as they continued to "develop" that cartoonish relationship.

Most of the relationship dynamics were goofy and poorly written, but this was by far the worst. It's not really that the acting itself is bad, just that there is no attempt to make the events, conversations, or bonds natural. The montage/cut scenes are downright laughable.

This is like a bad Lifetime movie without the tongue-in-cheek understanding of it's own ridiculousness. Unless that's what this is meant to be...If that's the case - it's brilliantly bad! (And I'll change my review accordingly)

Really cheesy!

The acting is annoying. The letter she wrote to her boyfriend in jail is absurd. The ridiculous monologues in almost every scene are silly. This feels like a cheesy cable tv show that would get cancelled after a few episodes.
