love sarah, but this is dissapointing
chewywater-707-40070118 February 2018
First of all, I think Sarah's standup is great. Always have. This show however is disappointing and weird.

There's an agenda to a lot of it. It feels like the material is meant to teach me lessons and correct my behavior. The last thing I would want or expect from Sarah is to tell me how to be politically correct. Ugh.

Also when she interacts with her guests she's got this exaggerated way of responding to them that feels like sarcasm at first and then you realize she's not kidding. Ugh. Weird.

Having said that, there is definitely some good material in these shows that makes me laugh.

Sarah reaches out to America
califeris17 October 2017
Warning: Spoilers
I just watched episode 1 on Hulu and have to hand it to Sarah Silverman. She's putting herself out there to create a different kind of "talk show" that isn't a talk show at all. I'm a fan of Colbert Report and the Daily Show, and this is TOTALLY DIFFERENT from those. She's trying to personally connect to people who believe radically different things than she does. She's trying to reach out and understand what's going on in this divided country. It's super risky. But Sarah has always gone her own way. Sure, her show makes me feel uncomfortable at times and last night I was unsure where it was going. Any one who's looking for brainless comedy where you get to laugh at other people's stupidity should watch Tosh.O. Bottom line is I Love You, America is relevant and ballsy.

It's not the show that's described.
YosefHawel3 November 2018
I Love You, America was slated to be a series with Sarah Silverman meeting & talking with people that don't agree with her. Basically the far right as Sarah is extremely far left. There are only a few episodes where Sarah talks to un-like-minded people, the first 2 and then episode 17. Out of all of the pandering, condescending, abasing & hypocricy, the one with Bill Burr is the one worth watching. If you've been lead to believe as I was that there would be genuine conversations with conservative individuals please inform HULU for a refund. We were lied to.

Love it
mepcfree17 October 2017
Terrific pilot episode everyone else seems to be expecting something run-of-the-mill and spoon fed where Sarah Silverman has always been one of the most unorthodox comedians with some of the most unorthodox TV show formulas if you could call them formulas . I found the Intro musical to be slow and annoying for the first 20 seconds but then funnier as the skit plays out and you begin to realize what she's actually trying to speak to. I thought the interview was great and I thought her visiting the family was great and also I even like the fake show host because it's pretty clear that there's a degree of truth to the things she says about late-night hosts.

Two shows in... It's a Beautiful Thing, Baby!
rzajac22 October 2017
I rate this a '10' because... It touches my heart! That's actually a rare thing for me. As the show ranges about--largely hewing to format, but also throwing in stuff that breaks format--I find myself feeling a warm lovingness; it's a nice thing for a TV show to do, and it happens so seldom.

I understand that Sarah always threatens to spin out of control and drop a ball and lose the audience, but... I feel like I understand where she's coming from: She insists on pushing her cognitive function forward; that's her thing, right? That's the whole point of Sarah; why she hovers on the fringes of mass connection... which is the grail of TV, after all. In order to let her into the tabernacle of your heart, you have to decide that this insistence on her part is somehow endearing. If you can do that (and it's not all that hard), she's right up there with any of the finest wranglers of video product in TV history.

Very much looking forward to future shows! Hopeful that this newest creative fling on Sarah's part gets a toehold and hangs in there!

Make it beautiful, Sarah!

First season pulled me in, Second season pushed me out
jeff-oneil3 November 2018
I really enjoyed the first season of the show. She brought together 2 opposing parties, and had them discuss. Then came season 2 where she starts advertising her opinions, and belittling others. Still holding a little to bringing parties together, but her bullying dominated the show and makes it unwatchable. I know some like sitting around and making fun of other people, but I dont find that entertaining.

Eye Opening
howancheng20 October 2017
Warning: Spoilers
This show is giving us a perspective in to the divided world of America, we are siding on blues and reds, and Sara is just giving a good perspective on their lives, showing how people are just people who grows up differently. This show is not all about mockery, although there are some, but she makes a good point when talking about whether politics and religion. She may be biased but if you see the first episode, the opening you'll understand that she is just caring on how people or the future of this country will live for.

I got to say that this show is not for everyone (since it might be too much) however I hope people can give it a chance, surpass the things that "you think you know" and watch this show.

Tonally and structurally inconsistent
aj121816 October 2017
Warning: Spoilers
I don't know if you can spoil a talk show but this is just poorly written and a bit of a mess both structurally and tone wise. This isn't even touching the politics of it (I didn't vote Trump but it has a very significant Anti-Trump message). I have been a fan of Sarah Silverman for the past 20 years. I remember watching her on SNL in the early 90s. I like most of her stand up specials but recently she has been on a political bent that alienated many of her long-term fans and this is the result of it..."I love America" is...weak political commentary with dick and fart jokes. The show doesn't know what it wants to be... It is caught between a Parody News Show in the vein of Colbert Report, The Daily Show, and Last Week Tonight; a Late Night TV show like, Jimmy Kimmel (her ex who I think she stole some of the writers from); or an SNL knockoff. She doesn't have the deep understanding of political philosophy to be a critic of politics on principle and her comedy style doesn't mesh with her messaging. At one moment she is flashing a cock and vagina (the first 5 min...this is her opening monologue so you know that she is "EDGY" and adult). The next she is interviewing someone from the Westboro Baptist church (the only decent part of the show but it doesn't go anywhere besides a feelgood piece aka "You Trump supporters can change look at this terrible person"). The show doesn't know what it wants to be and of the different directions it is going it doesn't do them well enough. I don't think Sarah Silverman has the star power to keep a show like this going without significant help, she is a 50-year-old woman that has no kids and is not in touch with the audience she is trying to reach. It is trying to be to many things at once...and failing.

what the world needs now
jancope14 November 2017
..is love, sweet love. it's the only thing that there's just too little of.

Sarah starts a dialogue of thought provoking insight from issues that the media tends to only show one side of. Her honesty, vulnerability and open-mindedness are the perfect storm for what we need right now. Entertaining, insightful, and doesn't take itself too seriously. Maybe not for everyone, but this cat thoroughly enjoys every minute. Recommended.

Unwatchable
philfeeley21 December 2017
Warning: Spoilers
Sorry to all you that like this, but this is unwatchable. If a male comedian took 10 minutes to describe how he masturbates, everyone would agree that it was and stupid. Well, that's what this show ends up being, and her interviews don't make up for it.

If there's nothing left to be funny about but masturbation, then all comedians should quit now.

This show might have had the biggest impact on my life + in Russia, nobody thinks like this + I second Sarah on every statement...
saymynameseo11 November 2017
I have been watching TV shows for 8 years. I have watched all and any good TV shows. i watch almost 3 seasons of Seinfeld. I watched movies 1920s.

I have a job and not a lot of person life, so)))

I've never done a review in my life )

I am telling you - this show is something that your kids are gonna aks you about, and grandkids probably. That's so "perky" that I want to "drink it", you know.

I am 31, a bisexual and live in Russia. I think I might have gotten 2 death threats by now from mafia, but since I sort of let it go, they just moved on...

This TV show really helps me understand that there ARE people like me in the world. I want to migrate to Brazil, then to the States and marry somebody like Sarah. I've never had a crush on any celebrity before, but this gal is something out of this freaking world.

There's is NO people like this in Moscow.

You know, when I was 7 years old, I took my bike, put a towel in the plastic bag and around noon rode to a nearby lake (nobody knew that I was doing this and it was a major violation, I guess...). I took a long dive, then I went out up really high, then I saw sun hitting my eyes, waves of glittering water going out from me and silhouettes of my friends getting to the pier with their bikes.

This shows is something like this.

And, you know, it has some bad places, as it's "organic". My bag with the towel was stolen that day. I can have some rough patches. But this is what makes it so cool.

If you ask me about the particular rough patches, I am not going to be able to tell you none, but there are certainly some.

WATCH THIS SHOW for all those people ex-free-world, who can't say that they are bi and they hate stupid people like Trump and they just want to be happy and make good money and be themselves.

If Sarah is reading this stuff, by any chance, please do as many seasons as you can. I WILL MAKE MY GRANDCHILDREN WATCH THEM WITH ME, COZ THIS SHOW MIGHT HAVE HAD THE BIGGEST IMPACT ON MY LIFE, ONLY TRAILING MY BIRTH, MY COMING OUT TO MYSELF AND THE WORLD TRUMPING IN IN 2017.

Far left Sarah has thoughtful intelligent conversations with far right without being condescending. Very funny at times, very serious at times. Not your usual Sarah Silverman stuff. Check out at least one episode.

No one likes a patronizing self-centered person. And nobody likes celebrities liberal-splaining an everyday notion such as " Football players taking a knee to bring attention to black people being shot by the police." She believes republican voters think it's about protesting the flag or National Anthem. Sarah Silverman needs a wakeup call; This is a case of another millionaire so far removed from society that she has no idea what the common interests of everyday person are. She parrots what she sees & hears within her own bubble, and that bubble is blatantly self-serving. How about realizing that cops shoot blackwhitelatinoasiandogscatswhatever all the time? How about asking why the mainstream media only shows black people being killed on TV? - Remember how National Geographic only showed nude black people in their magazines? The answer lies in there. It's the same bigoted mind-set and Silverman is way too comfortable with it.

Thank you, Sarah Silverman
smenke9410 January 2019
This show is really great. I didn't know how I felt about Sarah when I started watching it. She's never been my favorite stand up. I wasn't sure I jived with her style. But this show was so heartfelt and refreshing. It really brought a lot of validation and contentment to my soul. I enjoyed the variety and the honesty. I loved the segments with her dad. I thought she truly made an effort to reach across the aisle in the nicest, most respectful way possible while also acknowledging her own biases. This is the show America needs right now. It makes me sad to know that some people are so quick to shut it out. There really is no such thing as impartiality, but Sarah genuinely made an effort to unite us. Can anyone on the right say the same?

She's Not Listening
jegd-847-63140716 October 2017
I loved when Sarah went to Chalmette, Louisiana and met with the Standers family. It's exactly what should have been the focus of this half-hour show. It's an example of conservatism that New Yorkers, Californians, or most Yankees won't believe about the South - We're nice people who can get along with just about anybody. This was the conversation that Sarah promised for 'I Love You America' and it was funny, adorable, charming, and full of heart. I wish the entire show focused on Sarah's "field trips" and I wish it were an hour long. It's the sole reason I will continue to watch more.

Megan Phelps-Roper, formerly of the Westboro Baptist Church, was the final minutes of the episode. It's more of an update of where Megan is in her life. The media followed her & her family pretty closely for years up until her departure. I liked her as a guest, but it wasn't anything new/interesting for me. It seemed like a really short interview. Also the silliness afterwards with Sarah walking away from Megan to get in bed - came across as rude. I know she didn't mean to play it out like that. It was just a stunt to point back at a previous joke where she couldn't sleep without 'Law & Order' reruns. But yeah it didn't work out that way.

All in all, I like Sarah Silverman. I like her going on field trips to meet conservatives, but I wish it were more about popping the liberal bubble. I remember an episode of 'The Daily Show' when they went to a southern town and had two gay men announce their engagement just to get a reaction out of a group of people ... Jon Stewart was shocked that people applauded them. I love when preconceived notions get an eye-opening experience and I think 'I Love You America' has a great opportunity to do this every week.

UPDATED: This is 15 shows afterwards and Sarah Silverman has lapsed on her promise of getting to know Conservatives. She continually shows the perspective of liberal thinking and it's bluntly patronizing. No one likes to be treated with disdain. I wish she had listened to anyone telling her how much they enjoyed the first episode. I hoped for more engagements like the Standers family, but the overall tone of 'I Love You America' is what I should expect from people in bubbles surrounding by sycophants.

I will be watching
olesyaniklebedeva23 January 2018
Warning: Spoilers
This series is about tolerance ... Usually they say and in advance attribute to themselves as merit the normal human qualities - tolerance, understanding ... Some adequate people would laugh, call them tolerant. They consider themselves pofigists ...

And then there is that very thin line of tolerance. Personally, I do not demand from you a universal love for people, I am completely satisfied with pofigism. When you do not care about the way I look, what kind of religion or sexual orientation. Do not you care if I do sports or smoke like a steam locomotive? In half? Excellent! Let's be friends, I do not care for you either, I do not know you and I do not have emotional affection for you.

But when it comes to a particular sadly upset man, or about a group-community-nation-planet, I devote part of my life to meditations about them, even a few minutes, but that already means that it is important. Yes?

would like to say i wasted a half hour of my life
meanolddrunk-81-90362314 October 2017
i would really love to say i wasted a half hour of my life watching this...."show". but instead i only wasted about maybe.... 23 minutes. it was the first episode, i went in with open eyes and mind. the only thing i learned is..... nothing. yeah i know it was not meant to be informative. but what i did observe is either your a sjw or your the butt of a joke.i cant even remember why Sarah is famous or why she is relevant, her brother starred in some good movies way back when. other than that...... i love America.... its not funny, maybe its not supposed to be. it was not engaging, maybe its not supposed to be. was it good? absolutely not. is there wiggle room for improvement? yes. could it blossom into a "good" show? maybe, but not likely. i will give it one more shot....

She's all over the place.
RachelMendel1 October 2018
This show makes my head spin. I am literally dizzy with her talking and trying to be serious and giggling and whatnot. I had to take three Advils after the Will Ferrel (G*d Bless Him) episode of Socrates explaining democracy. They said democracy is a problem because of the uninformed voter who gets tricked by the snake-oil salesmen. Okay maybe that's true with the Clinton family, but when Sarah brings up how elitists would only have the right to vote, she's ignoring how we currently have a Congress of so-called intellectuals from Yale Harvard Duke Colombia. The Elite. It seems every President has to have a law degree, belong to one of those G*d awful fraternities, have wealthy connections, and be nominated by one of two political parties. Americans can barely vote for a President who wasn't born between May and August, let alone some poor shlub who isn't camera friendly.

I don't want to get all haughty and swear by that "Philosopher King" dribble, but can you imagine a group leadership of poets, musicians, sculpters, philosophers and whatnot? People's whose greatest achievements have come from passion. A Passion that shapes their purpose in life. A congress of artisans who know that innovation comes from working together. I think it's beautiful. Let's do that.

The big bupkes 'I Love You America' overlooked was "Majority Voting". Our beautiful country is a Republic, because we already know the errors of full democracies. How can Sarah grow up a nice Jewish girl in New Hampshire, a minority to the neighbors around her, and not know how democracy hurts minorities? A classroom with the sweet little babies voting for which play to perform that year; My heart goes out to the little Jewish girl Sarah who just wants to sing the songs from 'Les Miserables', but the rest of class wants to do 'Frosty The Snowman'. You're outvoted, nothing you can do. You look to your teacher as the authority figure to do the right thing, but no honey, it's not fair. IT'S A DEMOCRACY. We have to do 'Frosty The Snowman'.

Political Commentary that needs saying
geislekm27 April 2020
There are reviewers here who are upset because Silverman is "liberal-splaining" political concepts. Well, based upon the state of the nation, and Trumps approval ratings inexplicably still in the low 40's, apparently some political concepts, and the hypocrisy of evangelical and conservative leaders need to be explained, because those people are clearly not aware of their own hypocrisy and flawed beliefs. I'm not surprised this was canceled because liberals already understand these issues and conservatives don't like being called out.

It's not a comedy show.
rmstewart-734903 October 2018
Not to say it isn't laugh-out-loud funny sometimes. But it's more about making you think than making you laugh. As hardcore liberal as Sarah Silverman is, I appreciate her willingness to respect and listen to people who disagree with her. More than once she's inspired me to rein in my knee-jerk dismissal of those on the opposite end of the political spectrum. I especially appreciate her spotlight on those who have left hate groups and work to help others escape them as well.

Unfunny
a_naismith1 January 2018
Another of these modern unfunny comedians. They are not like the cutting edge of the golden age of alternative comedy in the 60's. They just come across as sneering and bigoted against anything they disagree with. Silverman excels in that department.

Sarah loves America
SHB_7327 July 2020
Warning: Spoilers
I have been a fan of Sarah since she had a brief run on Saturday Night Live and she is a New Englander like myself. When this show was announced I had reservations about it knowing her brand of humor I figured the show was going to be done the same way as a Sasha Baron Cohen comedy film in which the host makes fun of the people they are interviewing. But the show is nothing like that. Sarah actually has heartfelt conversations with families and people who she disagrees with politically but she never talks down to them and treats them with respect. Yes there is the occasional cheap joke but its not meanspirited. Considering how divided the country has become its refreshing to see opposite sides of the political spectrum have pleasant conversations instead of name calling and being at each others throats. Sarah has many memorable interviews on the show such as a conservative Mormon family from Wyoming and a Jesuit priest who helps find jobs for former gang members. Sarah even has a funny interview with her sister who is a Rabbi. I love you America is a funny program who I hope will get future seasons on HULU.

Sarah Silverman really blew me away with this
SpaceOctopus7 October 2018
I have always liked her as a comedian, but I had no idea she was so passionate about so many issues that are so important. This show is witty, fun, but also very real. She's not afraid to speak the truth, and her interviews are fantastic. In fact, the interviews she has done so far have been some of the best interviews I've seen on a TV series.

I honestly think people who don't like this show are probably just republican and don't like the ideas she's expressing. She makes a lot of great points and I think her message is important. She does it while trying to remain funny, too. That's not easy. I'm sure the show seems "soapboxy" to some, but I think she makes a lot of great points, and does so in a non-condescending manner. I think some people are just butthurt about her opinions, really.
