The introduction scene utilizes unused footage from The Karate Kid (1984). The close-up shots of Johnny getting kicked in the face and falling to the ground are part of alternate footage not utilized in the original film.

Goofs
There was never any argument in the original movie over whether Daniel's winning kick was legal or not. Neither Johnny, nor Kreese, nor the judges of the tournament ever expressed any doubt over it. Furthermore, the kick hit Johnny under his chin, which is a perfectly legal move.

80's nostalgia with an up-to-date flavor

Was not expecting this to be as good as it was. Great kick-off to the series. The 80s nostalgia is thick in this episode. Great handling of the cannon of the series. This is definitely more comedy than I expected, but it works.
