Little Lizzy McBride, a budding 1930's artist and storyteller is harassed by Ben Barker, her school's bully who turns all the school children against her when she takes solace in her imaginary world after the tragic accident of her father. When Lizzy's friend, Anna Mae is sad over her own family issues, Lizzy uses a wacky tale about an explosives loving gopher who plants peanut butter and jelly sandwich trees, to cheer her up. When Ben finds out he pulls his antics to try and bring down on her the humiliation of the entire town. The harassment escalates to the point of her being tormented with nightmares and unable to eat. Her only ray of hope comes when a wise mentor explains to her that she possesses a power that she never even knew she had. It is then she must decide to take defeat or rise up strong to overcome the situation.
