Very good acting - amazing score
djetm19 September 2019
Just finished this episode, and have not seen any more - so I don't know what happens after this. (Obviously).

I thought this show started out a bit over the top - you know. Like a little too much bulls...

But now it is better - muuch better. And the score with this ending:

I am now hooked.

I'm enjoying this show. It keeps me guessing. What will do next? This world is new to me so it's interesting to see what they are involved with. It's well done also!

fantastic

This is a really well written and directed episode. Brian cox' charakter finally shows balls and it's the first episode i liked sarah snook.

The first two episodes in this season were great but then came a few very lousy episodes and i wanted to quit this series... but the series recovers with episode 8 and episode 9 is fantastic... enough for the moment, i must watch the finale of season 1...

I hate these people but the show is top tier
wiseguy2333 October 2021
Did you ever have a comeback that was so perfect that you wish more than anything you could go back in time just to say it? That is every line in this show. The dialogue is isn't just sharp- every line is ideal. It would be a nightmare if people actually talked with such precision and hilarious articulate gravitas.

I want to hate the show because these people are repulsive. Only the top .000001 get the distance from consequences and need for empathy to become this breezily sociopathic and cruel. But even these obscenely shallow people are evocative because they impact us all.

Shiv looks amazing. Tom's conflict hearing that shiv i cheating on him is poignant. He wants to be in that world more than he wants her but he does love her.

It's hard to watch a show when everyone in it deserves nothing but disdain but the writing is so elevated that every line is worth paying close attention to.

Another amazing episode with subversive cat fights all over the place. Shiv keeps getting more and more fascinating. The score is fantastic. Roman gets all the good lines.

Sarah Snook kills it !!! Her range finally comes out in this show .
dishant_krips12 January 2020
With her upper east housewife tight dress, she looks angelic in nude and two huge emeralds as earrings. Her character changed in this episode. She deserves a golden globe for this !!

The Night Before
Hitchcoc13 September 2022
There are so many twists and turns and the possibilities are endless. It begins with the rehearsal and then the evening festivities. The old man decides the only way to come out on top is to attend. This throws a huge wrench into everyone's psyche. Kendall is suddenly put into an astounding situation where his plans to take down the old man have been exacerbated. Tom has told Shiv the secret that can destroy her father and now is ready to turn it over to Gil. Greg has observed Shiv's affair. The guests are enjoying slurping from the expensive outlay (the food looks sensational). There are several confrontations once Pop shows up. We do have a nice conclusion with three of the sibs in a boat, followed by the trip to the church. Episode 10 should be amazing.

A good penultimate episode that will undoubtedly lead into a brilliant finale.

Not much to say on this one.

At this point, I'm beginning to understand the dynamics of the show a lot better. I advise everyone who had difficulty, as I did, with the first few episodes to wait and see what is in store.

It feels odd to see almost every character so far this season occupying the same room, but it works in the sense that we are able to see all the relationships on display more intricately, from Nate's appearance at Shiv and Tom's wedding to the introduction of the former matriarch in the Roy family. We are beginning to get a better sense of how things are progressing, where this plot may take us, where certain conflicts might unfold.

The drama still largely remains, with Logan having a far heavier role in this episode compared to the one prior, and it really is all-out war. Between everyone. Whilst this episode did reveal some key character details and vital elements to the plot, it feels like a setup to a brilliant finale. Not a bad episode by any means, in fact it's another good addition to a run of brilliant episodes in Season 1 of Succession.

Onto the last one.

Standout episode
tripcsmith2 June 2022
I don't like the show much, but I love this episode. It's incredibly funny. Cinematography style seems to be used much better to highlight moments than in other episodes. And the containment to one event and location makes the characters shine more. Score is top notch as always too.

An amazing wedding episode, Shiv is beautiful and the mother was a great addition to the amazing cast, Logan is back and more evilish than ever, overall fantastic and well executed chapter, excited for the season finale.

[7.5] Trampling: pre-wedding mode
cjonesas10 April 2022
Warning: Spoilers
Episode 9: Same mess as before, this time in a mansion, pre-wedding mode and time. The acting is disgustingly good; in fact, I like the character of Marcia very much, she's the most honest and fiercely protective person out there, her talking is sharp and blunt at the same time, taking and giving no quarters and her French is excellent. Nobody dares not mess with her.

Aside that Shiv's play is very good and just because she's not a brunette or looking alike that dysfunctional family or her native mother, doesn't mean she's miscast; by the way Sarah Snook's acting is terrific.

Not my favorite episode.
mrxrfdmn24 July 2023
Up until this point I didn't have any issue with any of the episodes, I thought they were well acted, well written and entertaining. This episode has a lot of issues, the main one is that... it's boring. A lot of this episode is spent retelling past events this season but introducing the information to new people. It's also a visually dark episode... almost every scene is lit by a hilariously large amount of ugly lamps. I'm assuming it's a location limitation which is understandable but it isn't visually appealing. This episode is the first time I felt the cast was hard to like (sure they are all horrible people but you kinda like them and their twisted personalities) they just feel emotionless and I'm assuming it's by design because it's such a big drop from the previous episode. The benefit of this episode is that is slightly furthers the story and personally I feel you could skip it and just watch the recap piece and not miss much.

Needs to be stopped
gdrenfrew1 November 2019
Would work as a comedy unfortunately every character plays the same role and says the same tempo of lines.

Very bland despite all the fancy Vibes

Only Caulkin is decent.

Shiv is miscast
lh_lostie11 December 2019
I highly rate this show, on the whole, but are we supposed to suspend disbelief that Shiv looks like anyone else in the Roy family. In this episode we meet the mother and it's confirmed that Shiv looks nothing like her either. Sarah Snook is an exceptional actress but I don't buy that she is supposed to be related to this family. She sticks out like a sore thumb and it is extremely distracting! This rating is low only because Shiv is poorly cast.

Tension
stormolo1 January 2024
Warning: Spoilers
This episode cranks up the tension to 11 by bringing every character in the same room, forcing them to confront each other. Everything we've seen so far has been building up to something, and we're on the verge of finding out exactly what that something is, like a bomb waiting to explode.

I'm not sure how to feel about Kendall's decision to inform Frank about his plans. While not entirely out of character, it feels like he had more to lose than to gain from telling him. It comes off as a convenient way of making the takeover align with the wedding, rather than something the character would actually want to do.

Regardless, I think I'm finally hooked, and looking forward to see what happens next.
