Waiting for Season 2
vickij-7868927 December 2019
The show is beyond what I was expecting. I love Kat Dennings so watching it was a given, but the whole cast is amazing and everything is done very well. From the plot to the locations to the fashion. Everything's amazing. Very fun and creative show.

Magical

I just binged all 10 episodes after Christmas and I can honestly say this is the most I've laughed at a comedy. Each episode got better and the ending was brilliant! Need more.

The Right Stuff
sbecaks28 December 2019
All the ingredients you can possibly think of to make a hit show this one has. From cool cameos, to a female-driven plot, to the complex characters - "Dollface" has a new fan. I also love Dennings as Jules and Povitsky as Izzy. All the characters are great though and do an amazing job bringing the show to life.

Amazing show

I don't know if the 1 star reviews are just from people who only watched the first episode, but don't listen to them. I was hesitant at first, but it DOES get better. By episode 3 I was hooked, rooting for Jules and on the edge of my seat. Give it a chance. You'll love it.

A lovable show. Don't let the PC culture ruin good things.
hershdhillon2 January 2020
Well acted, well written and a beautifully directed. I really love this show. It was so fresh, colorful and humorous. I really don't get all the bad reviews. Not all art has to be a political statement. Regardless, I know a majority of people agree with me when I say that this is a great Kat Dennings and Brenda Song show. Hoping for a new season!

First Season was great! But Holy Christ WTF happened to Season 2
polariskunn200311 February 2022
I loved the first season and waited for what seemed like ever for Season 2. Unfortunately I haven't seen a drop in quality from Season 1 to 2 since Glee. Did they fire all the original writers and replace them with Lily Singh's show's writers. I'm three episodes deep and I havent laughed once, but the preachy cringe is so bad it's made my skin crawl. AND I AGREE WITH THE STANCE.

Thankfully the 4 leads are strong enough to keep me wanting to finish it, but it's gone from enjoyable to an endurence test. The actresses are very charismatic and were my initial draw to the show, but in this season they are written so unlikable that had the roles been played by anyone else I'd be done 5 minutes in. Hopefully if they make it to season 3 they'll return to their roots. And by that I don't mean recycle tired jokes that have been done better before.

Positives: Not all the new characters suck. The interns are pretty good.

Perfect Comedy

I really enjoyed this show. It's quirky and fun and gets back to the true meaning of "feminism". Totally surprised by how much the show sucked me in. The ending left me hungry for more.

Very entertaining but dodgy feminism
monicaripollgibson4 July 2020
I found this show entertaining and a good bedtime watch. Personally I thought the 50s aesthetics were fun and daydreams were funny, albeit not anything that has not been done before. The only problem I had was the pressure to fit into a feminine stereotype that the main character's friends put on her. It is all, supposedly, about reclaiming being oneself and not being controlled by , in this case, a relationship, but they don't let her find her own way to BE, she must become a millennial glamour girl.

A Feel Good Time

Talk about a turn-around! This show is so much better than "2 Broke Girls". I love Kat Dennings and this is a refreshing start for her to be on a good quality show that actually deserves her talent. "Dollface" is amazing from the round characters to the reclaiming of stereotypes to the writing, it's top-notch comedy. This is 100% a show you don't want to miss.

Woman seeking Woman
MikeM198427 November 2019
I watched this on a whim, and I'm glad I did.

I really liked this defunct, short lived, surrealist comedy called Man Seeking Woman that was produced and stars Jay Baruchel. The premise is almost identical. I'd be curious if this show shares some connection to that one because the similarities are very strong. It uses the same surrealist structure, weaving seamlessly between down to earth scenes, to full on bonkers surrealism. I haven't finished the whole first season, but Man Seeking Woman leaned very heavily on this particularly aspect as time went on. This show similarly seems to be introducing more and more elements as it progresses. There's even a scene in episode 4 that seems like a callback to Kat Dennings former show, Two Broke Girls.

The shows strength is it's cast. The cast is great, especially Esther and Shay Mitchell. Brenda Strong rounds out the cast as the best friend, and she's dependable as always. Kat Dennings, in my opinion, while gorgeous and talented, seems like the weak link, unfortunately. The show seems a bit self-aware of this, devoting an episode to her being "boring".

Overall though these two shows have been an interesting niche genre in the television renaissance. I wouldn't say either Dollface or Man Seeking Woman have made the best use of this style that could be made, but I think them introducing this type of show is more important, even if the result is slightly off-putting. I sincerely hope people continue to try and make shows like this. Eventually it will produce something very spectacular.

A Savagely Funny Evisceration of Modern Womankind
MogwaiMovieReviews15 November 2019
I knew nothing about this going in, and could only find one review on the interwebs, which I was confused to find REALLY didn't like it, until halfway down I started reading terms like "internalized misogyny" and then realized what type of person must have written it, and that just made me want to watch it all the more.

The 'crazy cat lady' bus, right at the beginning of the show, is hysterical, and sets up the absurd leaps of imagination that mark out the journey it sets us on as something special. The whole show, really, is just a savagely funny evisceration of modern womankind - the cliques, the backstabbing, the shallow Instagram artifice and feel-good Oprah-approved fads and philosophies. It's all the funniest parts of Lena Dunham's Girls, played only for laughs in a endlessly imaginative way. I found the pilot episode delightful.

First season was good, second season is just an ad for The Real Real
tlharrison-5954619 February 2022
I enjoyed the first season but the second season hasn't been as good. This feels like a show that had a well thought-out concept for one season but is struggling to find good material for a second. Storylines are taking a long time to go anywhere (if they do), weird scenes like the storm-chasing anxiety van are cringy, not funny, and feel out of place.

Add to that the multiple plugs for The Real Real within one episode, and I'm just losing interest.

Great for Everyone
peggylautter23 January 2020
As an older woman, I was able to go into the show with an open mind. My grandkids loved it and talked me into watching it. Even my older son said it was a good watch so I decided to give it a go.

Now, I'm not familiar with most of the actresses, but they all do a wonderful job making the characters real enough to make the series special. The celebrity guests were a fun callback to the later years which I'm all for.

I also noticed "Dollface" being able to be serious while still maintaining the laughs which sets it apart from other comedies that just seem to want to be a ha-ha machine.

When choosing what to watch on Hulu, make this show one of them.

Something Special
suegoronojki18 November 2019
Watching "Dollface" is like living in an alternate universe where Shay Mitchell is funny, Kat Dennings can act (she absolutely nails Jules), Brenda Song isn't just London Tipton, Esther Povitsky shows off her terrific timing and delivery chops and where Macaulay Culkin may or may not be the Panera Bread Bowl Killer. The cast did phenomenal in their respective roles and I hope to enjoy more seasons of this fresh and hilarious comedy.

It's a kid's show made for adults
AfricanBro14 February 2022
I watched this because I grew up watching "suite life of zack and cody" so I wanted to see what London Tipton was up to these days. I was going to say it's a girls show but I'm watching it and I'm a dude so I guess not, it's basically about a group of girls trying to navigate their lives while still maintaining their "sisterhood" is the term they used in S1. It's not the most amazing sitcom you'll find but I like it because it feels like addressing adulting from a child's imagination with the help of her old wise imaginary friend(a cat). Sounds real silly I know but they are dealing with everyday struggles in their friendships, love lives and personal ones too as they're each still trying to find themselves in their late 20's, early 30's and if you watch keenly there are some lessons to be taken, also at times funny. Ironically the alternative reality scenes with the cat woman are the most enlightening with advice and they're not overdone. So it might seem a bit goofy at first but you realize it's better than expected when you're done, it's refreshing.

Glad I stumbled upon this gem
AdrienneGrayceMusic22 December 2019
I had nothing else to watch so I gave this a shot. SOO glad I did. I can't find any flaws other than the casting for JEREMY (the ex Bf). Not a fan of the casting choice for his character. As for the ladies, they couldn't have picked a better group of girls. The show is funny and different, which is not what i was expecting at all. It has a little bit of everything. I wasn't a fan of Kat Dennings til now. The show touches on a subject not talked about much or not much portrayed on tv or movies. Women getting so caught up in their relationships with their partners that their friendships are left in the dust. I've been on both sides so I can relate to this show in every way,, which is sort of why I like it so much. The chemistry between the women on the show is so great. This is a special show and I hope it lasts many seasons!

Crazy Ex Girlfriend without the singing and with profanity
zekmoe-0411024 November 2019
Almost the same show in style and feel, just no musical numbers. Also, no one seems real, and that's actually ok. Works for the humor. I think Kat Denning is sort of a one note access but it's a good note. Brenda Song seems as much the star as Kat. Will watch it through. Only 4 episodes in.

The world every woman lives inside our heads! Funny, heartwarming and touched my feels on so many levels. At one time in our lives I think we can all relate to Jules. Great to see a girl comedy take risks and win!

Good comedy and cast but very simplistic and superficial take on feminism
monicaripollgibson27 May 2021
I loved Kat Dennings, the rest of the cast and the humour that shifts from grotesque to surreal.

What I did not like was the ongoing "what a woman is supposed to be like"... sexy, successful, always going to parties and making a big drama out of everything.

As a woman myself, I have felt this pressure from my friends, there is no space in this show for women who don't fit into this preconceived, very shallow type, and when a character ( Jules mostly) just wants to be herself she is shamed and "fixed".

This show does not allow the idea of women who are different, who have a different concept of well-being and happiness different to sexy, successful ambitious young lady.

If you manage to take this warped feminism as grotesque, plus the deliberate humour, you can have a good laugh with Dollface.

Overall great with a couple of issues
referencegirl20 November 2019
Warning: Spoilers
Overall I really enjoyed the first season of Dollface. I especially loved the use of surreal elements to highlight social issues specific to women. The use of Beth Grant as a cat-headed woman and guide was genius. The Izzy Levine character as a woman who had been trying to fit in for so long she didn't know herself represents a common struggle for women. The scene where an ad campaign has gone unknowingly white supremacist was on-point commentary and genuinely funny. However, there are times when moments of conflict used to push the story forward feel superficial. For example, I don't see the emergency required to take a carriage ride to save a friend running into her old boyfriend - especially since by the time they ordered the carriage the run-in had already occurred. Furthermore, there are several moments when the portrayed femininity feels shallow rather than authentic. Like when one of the friends announces that dates with men are so you can wear cute outfits.

This has to be another low point for comedy... again!
ednk15 November 2019
Why did I just watch? The first episode of a new show called Dollface. Even the name is offensive for woman. I understand the irony of the name, but come on, we are almost 2020. So in this show all women are making it in life but talk like sixteen year old girls. The screaming when greeting each other, just to name one. I didn't know that I could roll my eyes so many times in 30 minutes. How Kat Jennigs agreed to do this show is beyond imagination!

What a bad show with all the stereotypes from the year 2000. They really could've made new, refresh all girl show, but they totally screwed it up. The show tries to do kinda Ally McBeal when they put strange phenomena into the show. But in the first few minutes a bus driver has the face of a female cat. Yes, let that sink into your thoughts, a female bus driver with a cat face is talking to the main lead.

I give this show 1 star for the beautiful setting. It's very Hollywood, with nice scenery and all fakeness you can imagine. Don't waist your time, doll face.

I Need More

After finishing this cute and cleaver show, I was left wanting more. I genuinely love the girls and want to see where life takes them next. The last episode definitely leaves a door open for season 2. Fingers crossed the show gets renewed!
