Definitely worth the time!

Covers religion, culture, lesbian, food, family, dancing and above all a happy ending!

Lighthearted and hopeful!

A solid romantic comedy with some additional spice
black_dodo_b17 February 2021
At its core, this is a competently made romantic comedy that hits all the expected notes: a sweet lead couple, a cast of nutty but likeable family members and a lot of fun.

What elevates it above the expected is the setting (isreali, german, and some arab culture clash) and the surprisingly earnest handling of this delicate intercultural dynamic. It handles it cleverly without ever losing sight of its rom-com core.

A total fun romantic drama

Cross-culture, cross-language, cross-country, cross-sexual orientation. You have got a lot to deal with in this comedy drama. Without a lag the script runs smoothly through till the end.

Really sweet rom com from Israel
scheevers-502003 July 2023
I'm really surprised by 5.8 rating on this site for the film. It's not a classic film of it's genre but it's far better then it's rating. Definitely a film worth watching for anyone who likes a good romantic comedy.

Basically a story about a relationship between Israel woman and German woman, and the hurdles of Culture, their sexuality, Families are to be overcome. It doesn't reinvent the wheel when it comes to it's rom com roots, you get the ups and downs with the big happy ending like all the films of that genre. Also like the nod to There's Something About Mary, with the band breaking the fourth wall.

I liked the performances from both leading ladies, neither I've ever seen before. Moran Rosenblatt as Shira is likeable and a good focal point of the film. But for me Luise Wolfram as Maria, the German woman she loves is great. She's brings a lot of warmth to Maria, with little nice touches like her hiccuping when she's nervous. Also she's a strikingly beautiful woman to boot, a tall red head. But their romance has a ton of heart and both actresses have enough chemistry to sell you on their romance.

John Carroll Lynch (the husband of Frances McDormand in Fargo) is probably most noticeable face from the cast. He's very good in a smaller role as Shira's father. Rivka Michaeli as Shira's Grandmother is fine. Also I really liked Aviv Pinkas as Shira's sister and Naama Amit as co owner/best friend of Shira. Neither have big parts but they are best acting talent from the rest of the cast.

Again it's no classic and it's definitely cheesy in places (especially the last few minutes) but it's heart is in the right place and the two leads are likeable. Direction by Shirel Peleg is solid and script is cliche in spots but that's fine. Well worth checking this one out.

I love it!

A dynamic film that re-examines the attitudes of two young women who find themselves in an Israeli-German lesbian relationship and the influence of family. Excellent dialysis, a large number of quality replicas and question: Will love survive?

All the tropes !

I had a lot of fun watching this Vaudeville with all the ingredients of a good comedy. An Israeli lesbian wants to marry her German non Jewish girlfriend who comes to Tel Aviv to move on with her. The families are hilarious and they tick all the boxes. A very nice movie indeed !

Very enjoyable--without sugarcoating Isaeli/Arab Jewish/German "tensions," the film is sexy and smart. It took a while, but I see why Shira fell in love with Maria.

Very enjoyable comedy

This is a little gem on the art house movie market. Story is cute, maybe at times predictable, but its the actors who really make the film very, very enjoyable to watch. Two women in a lesbian relationship in Israel and one is German the Israeli. Well, this is the beginning of a good comedy. Direction is flawless, a bit like a Woody Allen film. (this I meant as a compliment). One can really relate to the problems the women will encounter. What else can I say for the remaining 120 characters without spoiling the story...Luise Wolfram and Moren Rosenblat made this film which is very much a sprawling family comedy. Go watch!!!!!
