Angel Lands.
adamjohns-425751 December 2021
A sweaty priest and a terrible choir like the ones in this film would surely always be enough to put you off going to church and this film could quite easily have gone over the top with the Jesusy stuff, but actually it's very subtle and the message is more about the giving of love, time and thought at Christmas.

There is a slightly magical element in the form of the angels sent to rescue the season, in this town that has forgotten its way, but it's not done in that cheesey way that others seem to use.

Paul Greene is a very hot fireman and even the leading lady is quite appealing as a character too. So the romantic element wasn't hard to watch.

It's a positive film about being festive through kindness and community and there really can't be any harm in that can there?

7ish?

This looked very familiar.....
bluehenfan-6715511 July 2020
I will admit that this was my first time seeing this movie. I caught it about halfway through and something just seemed very familiar, Christmas in Angel Falls appears to be loosely related to the movie 'Christmas Magic' in that a young lady is sent from above as a guardian angel to help a family. Even the dialog between Gabby and Michael sounds nearly identical to CM. Aside from that, i thought the movie was very good. A lot of people above me gave kudos for the cast, and i can't disagree with them! I'm really looking forward to watching this again, but this time, from the beginning! :-D

Touching

While Hallmark movies tend to be a bit too sugary for me, this one was filled with very good actors and a gorgeous setting.

I might've appreciated this a bit more if I hadn't seen Help for the Holidays first. This is basically a rewrite of the previous Hallmark movie with barely religious overtones; God and Michael instead of Santa and an angel instead of an elf, the rest was basically the same. It was saved from a lower score by Rachel Boston (especially) and Paul Greene. Beau Bridges was good some of the time but other scenes I felt he was just calling it in. I prefer this to Help for the Holidays but mostly because it makes more sense to have an angel in the supernatural helper role than one of Santa's elves but they are mostly interchangeable.

A charming Christmas in Angel Falls
TheLittleSongbird1 December 2021
'Christmas in Angel Falls' did sound very charming even if the plot synopsis was nothing earth shattering. My 2019 onwards Christmas film completest quest (namely those from Hallmark and Lifetime), that is still ongoing with no intent to stop just yet, has been a very uneven endeavour but an interesting one with some real winners. Rachel Boston and Paul Greene have been good in other things, despite their filmographies being variable.

On the whole, 'Christmas in Angel Falls' is a winner, if not quite one of the standout viewings of the project. It is not earth shattering or anything out of the ordinary, but it was watched by me in the want of something charming, light hearted and heart-warming. 'Christmas in Angel Falls' succeeded in all three of those areas on the whole, even if not every single area quite comes off. It is also a good representation of both leads, which is a good thing as that would have been a big problem if their performances were the opposite.

Admittedly, there is nothing new story wise. It is very easy to tell what is going to happen before it happens and the ending is the pretty typical Hallmark Christmas film sort of ending (meaning easily telegraphed and on the too neat side) not in doubt.

Will agree too that Beau Bridges is under-utilised and he did come over on the bland side here.

Bland is the complete opposite when it comes to talking about Boston though. If anything, her radiant and immensely appealing performance as a lead character that is easy to like and root for is the main reason to see 'Christmas in Angel Falls'. Greene is an easy going and subtle leading man and they are very warm and amiable together. Their chemistry seemed genuine, even if it fell a little short of sparkling. Support is good enough.

It is nicely filmed too. It's not drably lit, is cohesively edited and the locations are made good use of despite it being obvious that it was not shot at Christmas time. The film doesn't make the mistake that most recently seen Christmas films have done of having over-used and overpowering music, it is lovely to listen to and has a festive feel. The dialogue doesn't have too much cheese and doesn't fall into schmaltz, it's amusing and sometimes movingly delivered with spirit.

Furthermore, 'Christmas in Angel Falls' was very capably directed too, not allowing the film to drag and always making the drama and such clear. The story is predictable, but is very light-hearted and heart-warming with more character depth and likeability than most recently seen Christmas films. There is a lot of charm and it really does live up to its well meaning title. Did find myself liking the characters and their personalities and didn't find myself frustrated by any behaviours or questioning motivations (have seen too many holiday films that have been guilty of those).

Overall, nice film. 7/10.

Charming!
MIssM1927 October 2018
Hallmark movies and mysteries a more complex and this no exception: more depth in the characters and storylines. Rachel Boston truly delivered an amazing performance: her character's optimism was contagious.

The chemistry between her and Paul was great. However, I personally felt that their chemistry wasn't much on the romantic side, and it kinda threw me off a little bit.

But the movie truly delivers that christmas feeling that their audience loves.

Not Enough Of Beau Bridges
Christmas-Reviewer5 December 2017
I HAVE REVIEWED OVER 400 (C H R I S T M A S ) MOVIES AND SPECIALS.

SO PLEASE BEWARE OF SOME REVIEWERS THAT ONLY HAVE ONLY ONE REVIEW. WHEN ITS A POSITIVE THERE IS A GOOD CHANCE THEY WERE INVOLVED WITH THE PRODUCTION. NOW I HAVE NO AGENDA! I REVIEW MOVIES & SPECIALS AS A WAY TO KEEP TRACK OF WHAT I HAVE SEEN! I HAVE DISCOVERED MANY GEMS IN MY QUEST TO SEE AS MANY " C H R I S T M A S " MOVIES AS I CAN.

Hallmark Channel delivers a little In this 2017 television film. In this film Guardian angel Gabby is sent to the town of Angel Falls to restore its Christmas spirit. As she helps the townspeople to revive their traditions, Gabby meets a volunteer fire chief who in turn tell her about "Angel Falls" and how an the hidden message about having unresolved issues.

Hallmark Movie Staples Rachel Boston, and Paul Greene help make this worth seeing. Also I also like Beau Bridges. My only gripe about this film was that "I wish he had a larger role in this".

Family safe but in reality it is a romance movie for people that love romance!

Cute Christmas Movie
sirenamartel7 January 2022
I want to say this was the first Hallmark Christmas movie I ever watched. I knew they were cheesy and never had any interest but for whatever reason I started watching them that year and I absolutely love Rachel Boston. This was a cute storyline and I think I read a book that had a similar plot so I knew what was going to happen. I thought I had read they were going to make this into a sequel like the Evergreen series or maybe a TV series but that hasn't happened. I'd watch it if Rachel was in it. Or Andrew Walker. :)

Surprisingly Delightful!

I was delightfully surprised at this movie.

When Calls the Heart fans will enjoy seeing more than one member of the cast in this Christmas romantic comedy.

Can you spot the second cast member?

Great cast
Jackbv1235 December 2017
While the story doesn't have any fireworks or surprises, the cast is so great. If I were looking for a movie with positive energy, this would be high on my list.

First off is Rachel Boston. Her energy could power a major city. She doesn't walk down the street, she practically skips or dances. Her smile goes all the way to her eyes and probably reaches the roots of her hair. Paul Greene is one of the best male regulars for Hallmark. Put these two together and here is the fireworks. I don't remember the name of the young lady who made the web site, but this actress also did a great job making her character really appealing.

Angels "R" Us
rebekahrox6 January 2019
Warning: Spoilers
Rachel Boston is a hit or miss for me. In some movies her boundless cheer and energy is welcome and refreshing. In some it is just tiring and overdone. In this one it was the latter. Full disclosure. I dozed off in the middle, So probably just saw about half of this one all told.

Rachel, who plays an angel, kept raising her arms in the air as if spreading her wings when ever she had a triumph or ecstatic moment. It got to be laughable. Yeah, we saw what you did there, Rachel. Very clever. The first couple of times.

There were too many unanswered questions. When it was decided (spoiler alert!) that she was going to stay on earth as a human and give up her angel status after she found true love, How exactly was she going to navigate that? Is she going to tell her fireman-boyfriend? What about her former life? What if she meets someone who used to know her? What will she remember? The fact of the matter is, In literature and movies, Angels can't become human again. this just does not happen!

The lead was fine, Beau Bridges added a lot and looked great. And that actress who played Alice Lake, Bayley Corman, is a dead ringer for Keira Knightly.

It had potential
HotToastyRag7 December 2019
My best friend and I have a saying we use while shopping for clothes. We'll hold up a garment that just missed being cute and say, "This had potential." I know I use that phrase to describe a lot of movies, but bear with me as I say it again: Christmas in Angel Falls had potential.

I absolutely love Beau Bridges and will watch anything he's in, so when I caught him on a Hallmark Christmas movie, I was pretty excited. He plays a guardian angel who mentors another guardian angel, Rachel Boston. Rachel tends to get too involved when she helps people, and Beau stresses the importance of free will. Then, during her next assignment, she gets too involved again and learns what it feels like to fall in love. If this weren't a Hallmark Christmas movie, it probably would have gone a better direction. Without spoiling anything, I'll just remind you that at Hallmark, a Christmas romance is literally the most important thing in the world.

You're going to have to be in a certain mood to pop in this movie and enjoy it. If you're not up for grumpy people getting cured with a nice smile, decades of hurt being healed by tiny apology, and the spirit of Christmas making everyone forget about their serious problems, you'll probably get a cavity from this movie. I've already made an appointment with my dentist. I got my first cavity when the Beau and Rachel's characters were introduced as Michael D'Angelo and Gabby Messenger. Then again, it's Beau Bridges, so you're guaranteed one good part of the movie.

Fairy tale disguised as something else
MickyG3334 November 2023
6.9 stars.

I like the idea of this story, that an angel would be eager to help a town find their Christmas spirit again. They might as well use a leprechaun, an elf, or even Santa to produce the magic they are attempting to spread. If you're going to introduce us to an angel, at least get the lore correct. First of all, if you read any literature (fiction for most people, nonfiction for Christians), you will know that angels are rarely bearers of good news and they are not cheery folk. Angels as depicted in written works and art dating back to about 2200 BCE (give or take) were fearsome and hair-raising creatures to humans. All the literature suggests that people would tremble and faint with fright at the sight of one of these beings. The texts suggest that these messengers did not intend to scare people, but something about their aura was horrifying. This particular angel Gabby appears to be Gabriel or a female version of him (although many scholars believe that Gabriel was in fact a female). But she appears naive and over-optimistic, and quite ignorant of worldly customs and knowledge in general. An angel that has been around for many thousands of years, according to the mythology, would seem much more intelligent and in control of the whole situation. Michael would not be as he was either, it's just too far fetched.

Like I said, the story is fun and uplifting. The music evokes some teary eyed moments, the leads share an affinity for each other that is seldom seen in Hallmark movies; but if the author is trying to redefine our knowledge and understanding of angels, then this is a very peculiar spin on it.

I won't spoil it, but theologically this "angel" would be considered a fallen one and the whole "free will" and angel vs human concept expressed in this movie are so far off, it's laughable. But oh well, who doesn't love a great story?

Great heartwarming movie
MovieQween-3362225 December 2018
This was truly a sweet and charming movie. The storyline was so heartwarming and original. I loved that it was based on a book and made by Hallmark. The chemistry between Paul Greene and Rachel Boston was magnetic. Paul is so charming in all of the movies he does and this is no exception. Beau Bridges was also a great addition. Great feel good Christmas movie!

Christmas...christmas....christmas...christmas...christmas...christmas...christmas....christmas....christmas....christmas...
Ed-Shullivan22 December 2018
If the word "Christmas" was not used in every sentence it was used in every persons lines to the point of ad nauseam. Mrs. Shullivan and I enjoy watching many of the Lifetime Christmas themed films but this made for TV film was filled with so much depression and sadness (and of course the word CHRISTMAS) by the towns people of Angel Falls who all come out of their doll drums when an angel named Gabby Messingir (Rachel Boston) magically appears with her ear to ear smile and overwhelming abundance of joy. Oh, and no one says the word "Christmas" more often than the perky angel Gabby.

Gabby's mentor Michael D'Angelo (Beau Bridges) is the angel of wisdom and he appears periodically to guide Gabby on her quest to brighten the inner spirits of the towns people of Angel Falls. It's a simple plot depressed towns folk find the bright light of Christmas for their Christmas pageant and all is special once again in Angel Falls.

Blah...blah...blah....humbug

I give this Christmas stinker a 3 out of 10 rating. Saying the word Christmas ad nauseum the film does not make it a Christmas themed film, nor does a little bit of romance.

Great Christmas Movie
parksidedrive19 December 2017
A Christmas movie that asks the question-Do we stop and take the time to volunteer in our community? Beau Bridges is like the Narrator in Our Town and comes into the movie to let the viewer know what is possibly important. The actors were genuine and made their characters likeable. I give this move 10 Cups of Cocoa for unforgettable Christmas cheer.

A heartwarming traditional Christmas movie
jasminechai1728 November 2018
This movie has some of my favourite Hallmark actors, Paul Greene and Beau Bridges. I didn't know Rachel Boston, but she was very impressive as the Angel of Angel Falls. This is a very sweet and thoughtful movie and is quite a comforting, heartwarming drama, especially for people who are dealing with sadness during the holidays. This movie shows this aspect of what folks go through during Christmas when life has hit them with pain and disappointment, not just full of happy people who love Christmas like a lot of these Hallmark films portray. It is more real than most of the romantic comedies, it is more realistic in some of their subtopics. I really enjoyed the mood of this movie. The chemistry between Paul and Rachel was not extraordinary but it worked.

Nearly perfect except for the way too good looking firemen
zyxnix26 December 2017
Rachel Boston does have all the qualities I like to see in a leading lady in a Christmas movie, however she never appears in anything sexier that a droopy sweater. Minus one star at least. The story is good and even some of the sub plots are intriguing in as much as they can be in these types of movies. I think we all knew what was eventually going to happen once an angel unexpectedly finds love.

Uplifting and Hopeful
angelapple-4161111 October 2022
It reminds me of Christmases past. If we could just get back to the times this movie portrays. Our world would be so much better off if we just loved and helped one another. If you need any uplifting this is the movie to watch. I have watched it ever time it's on television. It's about a community that has lost hope in Christmas and each other. But through a precious young lady that's so positive that happens to be an angel helps them. I've tried to buy this movie but I can't find it on eBay, Walmart or Amazon. It's just so positive nothing shameful in the movie. If you get a chance watch it! You will love it.

One of my favorites
sissisonik9 December 2022
This is good movie about an angels making a difference in people lives for the better and this is one movie that I can watch again and again. It has a great cast with Paul Greene, Rachel Boston and Beau Bridges. The story itself was so good. I wish that they would have made a sequel sooner instead of later. I also wish that it would as made with this cast. When it comes to making sequels they either make too many when one would have been good or they wait too long to make it. If they make another one sometimes some of the original cast may not be available to do it and most want the original cast in the movie.

Finally, another good one
nickholt-1158914 December 2023
This movie has a refreshingly different storyline to the usual TV Christmas movies. And the actors are great. Finally believable lifelike characters.

None of the usual story plots like: A horrible boss - nope.

Make a snowman - nope.

A snowball fight - nope.

Etc.

And they don't stand in a semi circle around the camera to have a conversation.

Yes there is snow, well it's Christmas. Yes the lead character walks around with summer clothes, but this is - for a change - addressed in the movie by someone who is dressed in appropriate clothing.

Everything is just about right. Jeff Bridges's brother Beau, didn't carry the movie, he's there just about the right amount. For this movie, IMDB has a rating at the moment of 6.5, I feel this movie should be around 6.9 to 7.2, even though I personally rate it at around 8 because for once, I wouldn't mind "rewinding" and watching the whole thing all over again.
