Frustrated because another good show bites the dust
dleigh-8381312 May 2019
This was a fun show and I am going to miss it! I have loved Vicki Lawrence since The Carol Burnett Show. It was fun to see what life might be like in a retirement community. I thought there was some real chemistry happening between the main characters. Seems like there should have been enough of us baby boomers watching and enjoying to keep this show alive!

Brings back actors who have made us laugh in the past and brings a refreshing classic style of comedy back to life.

I'm broken hearted. It was so fun to see all of our older TV and Movie icons make their guest appearances!

The Kool Kids....Very Funny!
jbelle-0997929 September 2018
So glad to see a comedy that is about seeing senior adults that are funny, creative and competent individuals.

Society today seems to want to put older adults in a nursing home when people get older. Many adults are active and want to be respected and treated as they were in their younger years. Not age discriminated.

Love this new show!

A good premise
paralgl-kramer829 September 2018
I HATE laugh tracks..that being said, the idea is good. The timing is off between the actors. But it's the first effing show, and why my rule of thumb is to give it three shows before eliminating it from the schedule.

Shouldn't have been cancelled!

A great cast and subject. Guess we now have to go back to the excess of rotten reality shows, unnecessary reboots or bad crime dramas. Pathetic.

Great Ensemble Cast, Nothing Competing Against It Better! Other Than Netflix
davidsask23 February 2019
I look forward to this show every start of my weekend! You don't have to be part of any age demographic to laugh like crazy here. Watch it with whole family or sweetheart. If you can't view it live as busy start to your weekend, Set your PVR's, streaming services as those impact ratings of shows!

Note with some dip in ratings just lately; Please don't cancel Cool Kids! This is one of the funniest comedies in long while for basic cable. Dare I say it, a little bit of Golden Girls! When WWE (wrestling) takes over Fridays on Fox in Fall, Please make room for this show in your schedule! Running one hour of comedy block with LMS will still work on other day ***If do fair promo for both shows***!!! Fox, I would suggest a different approach for you, 2 hours of comedy shows on one night!

Good. but not as Masterpiece...
RobTheUnknown29 September 2018
I kinda enjoy this show. It's somewhat funny. But I'm afraid it won't last long. It'll end up as one season.

I think it's a good idea that seniors act like teenagers. But some of the story seems kinda lame and boring. But I do enjoy the humor though.

Maybe I'm too old for an "old people" show ...
kkmmbbtx29 January 2019
I went back and tried this again. Couldn't even make it through a whole episode. Yes, they are familiar faces. Yes, lots of people remember and like them. By the way, I'm 68 so I'm in the category. I find the humor very unintelligent, boring, USED and predictable. If this is modern comedy it's a step WAY back in my estimation. I found it embarrassing. Won't be back to watch that one anymore.

Loved it, but then I'm over 60

After watching three other season premiers tonight, this was my favorite. Yes, it will probably appeal to older adults, but that's just fine. It was smart and funny. Well done!!

There Is Potential Here
atlasmb2 October 2018
A white guy, a black guy, a gay guy, and a woman. That is the cast of four that drives this show. This diversity of cast allows the writers to acceptably mine a wide range of subjects that otherwise would be considered off limits. It's a smart strategy, even if it might feel formulaic.

This is not "The Breakfast Club" for seniors. These four characters like each other. And they share the same experiences-aging and living in a retirement center.

In the first episode, there is little interaction with the others who reside in the center. I wonder if the jokes will become stale without broader interaction. There is a woman who runs the center who, fortunately, was not written with a personality of a Nurse Ratched. Instead, she is a (younger) voice of reason, trying to be the adult who enforces the rules.

The four "cool kids" rebel against authority, trying to assert their individuality despite a society that wants them to live quietly and age "gracefully". This is a blow for individual freedom that feels right. I just hope the administrator of the facility is not always portrayed as the voice of reason, because we all know that authority often coexists with rules meant merely to control, not to enhance the life experience.

Pointless Unfunny and Sad
Johnny_West21 April 2019
David Allen Grier is usually great, but here he is just shouting all the time about having a rave for his dead friend. Leslie Jordan is pathetic as a very unfunny gay stereotype. He takes LGBT back to the 1950s with his horrible cliche performance. Martin Mull has never been funny, in my opinion. He was the straight man to funny people on other shows. In Cool Kids, there is no need for a straight man, since nobody is funny.

Vicki Lawrence is an appealing person, but she puts too much of her obnoxious "Mama" personality into this new character. When Vicki Lawrence decides to sit in the chair where the dead friend of the other guys used to sit, all hell breaks loose. Why? Mostly due to horrible writing.

David Allen Grier, Leslie Jordan, and Martin Mull go on a vendetta against Vicki Lawrence, even though they have never spoken to her. It is really awful dialogue, a really dumb plot, and there is nothing funny about the pilot. I made it through about twenty minutes, and I had to give up.

It seems like everyone on this show was told to shout loud and over act badly. I guess that is supposed to make up for the lack of any comedy, jokes, or funny moments.

65?
michael-missy6 October 2018
This is a funny show. I can not lie and say that I didn't laugh out loud, but it was so unrealistic. No one at 64 sees themselves as the retirement community age. They needed to go 10, if not 20 years older, to be believable.

Now this is how you do seniors style comedy
bigbro-7381629 September 2018
Ok so I watched Murphy brown "a terrible comedy with a senior age star .then last night I watched the premeire of this with my grandma and family and we all laughed nonstop now this proves senior citizen folks can be funny as hell which is very good to see in the day and time where seniors are painted as sexual pretidors or drug attics these guys and gals just wanna live it up in their old age it's fantastic to see

Good but...
jrmcclendon9 November 2018
Get rid of the god damn laugh track.. come on! Do we need to be guided into what is funny anymore? If you have to convince people when to laugh then you aren't going to last.... Oh wait! Big bang theory made it to season "too many" so I guess simpletons still exist.

Third episode fail
trudy-931-35732213 October 2018
The premise was intriguing. The first 2 episode were mostly funny, however, the third episode was just lame. Seniors hooking up with lame writing and cliched sex jokes. It fell flat. Good cast, terrible writing with little real insight to older adults. Then there was a slam about Vietnam Vets. Too bad the writers didn't take a few lessons from an old series called the Golden Girls. They failed. I doubt this series will last. Too bad.

Escaped from TV Land
mickdansforth29 September 2018
A few years ago TV Land had a bunch of TV shows featuring classic TV actors and written by classic TV writers. And this show feels like that, but on Network TV with better and more modern writers from the post Survivor/American Idol TV decimation event era.

(Reality TV was cheaper and got better ratings so half the slots went reality. With less scripted TV, good writers became more concentrated, and the level of writing on TV improved.)

David Alan Grier is funny, and is looking a bit like Tim Conway next to Vicki Lawrence, who is absolute dynamite. Martin Mull is doing the always entertaining Martin Mull thing and Leslie Jordan is also great.

Jamie Farr has a scene in the first episode. I hope he becomes a regular and/or they fill that slot with regular, much beloved guest stars from classic TV.

This is much better and more fun than "Retired At 35", "Hot In Cleveland" and the other TV Land fare.

Horrible
Veritas9929 September 2018
I don't know why the producers have to use those recorded laughs in the background . I couldn't resist more that 30 seconds, 2 ( not too bad jokes) filled with artificial laughs. Viewers are not (all) idiots, you know. If they feel amused, they will laugh, if not, not. But those laughs are killing everything from the beginning.

People really need to make a point to check out this show - I like it more and more with every episode. I have always been a fan of David Alan Grier and Vicki Lawrence, and who can ever resist Leslie Jordan in anything he does?! Am also enjoying Martin Mull's contribution-just an overall great show. Please keep them coming!!!!
