Very raw and very real

I saw this film yesterday at the Calgary film festival and this one totally hit home. If you don't know much about the Alberta oil & gas industry and especially field operations, then this film might not make much sense. If you are part of the industry then this film is 150% accurate with it's portrayal of events that happened in the last few years in Alberta, and you will feel every cringing event of the characters cause I'm sure we all know someone personally (friends or family) who went through the O & G layoffs, and yes they were brutal.

The pacing of the film seem kind of slow at times but it's absolutely correlative to how life really is working as a field operator in some northern Alberta farmers field away from the cities. I'd say the aspects of alcohol, drugs, and loneliness is pretty bang on especially with how these people deal with the isolation. The acting was excellent and the sarcastic humor actually fit well as anyone who's been in the industry knows full well, sometimes it's so sad that all you can do is laugh and poke fun of the situation that you're stuck in.

Overall, I found this film very underrated and was blown away by how good it was. Maybe I'm bias cause I've lived through that experience myself and that story came across as pretty real to me. It's interesting cause it's fictional, but it's not. Now that the film festival is over, wish there's a way to purchase a copy of the dvd or download the film. It's a good movie to show co-workers and help them appreciate what they still have. 10/10 for me.
