You would never imagine it, as Lego is a huge, huge mega-brand today, but this installment of "The Toys That Made Us" shocked me because apparently the Lego Company has been close to bankruptcy several times. I found this hard to believe, as it's such a ubiquitous brand today and imagining only a short time ago the company was forced to lay off many employees and sell off their parks to stay solvent. This up and down aspect of the company made for a better than average installment in this excellent 8-part series. Well written, enjoyable and full of interesting information...this one's worth your time.

LEGO is a company that has both been around a long time and has had its story told a multitude of times, and yet The Toys that Made Us - LEGO still manages to provide not only the history of LEGO, but a fresh view on it's failures and successes and a current analysis of their business practices and social relevance. The episode moves quickly and there is just enough eye-winking narrative snark to add a humorous tone to a solid history and analysis of the LEGO corporation and it's products. Very enjoyable..
