Definitely one for the fans of Hong Kong cinema...

I hadn't heard about this 2018 Hong Kong comedy titled "My Rival is Son-in-Law, My Lover is Son-in-Law" as I sat down in 2022 to watch it. Regardless, then there was no doubt about me sitting down to watch it, given my fascination and admiration for Asian cinema, and Hong Kong cinema in particular.

While writers Patrick Kong and Ja Poon managed to deliver an entertaining movie with "My Rival is Son-in-Law, My Lover is Son-in-Law", then I feel that it is not a movie that will openly and easily entertain just everyone sitting down to watch it. While it is listed as a comedy, this movie is not a comedy in the sense that will make you laugh. No, it is a movie that leaves you with a feel-good emotion, so director Patrick Kong definitely deserves a thumbs up.

Now, "My Rival is Son-in-Law, My Lover is Son-in-Law" is a movie that fans of the Hong Kong cinema will take to heart, of that I am quite sure. And that is also why I liked and enjoyed the movie. And it should be said that the cast list definitely has some good performers, with the likes of Simon Yam and Carina Lau in leading roles. There are some other veteran performers to be seen as well, so that is a treat for long-time fans of the Hong Kong cinema.

I was genuinely entertained by "My Rival is Son-in-Law, My Lover is Son-in-Law", and as such, my rating of it lands on a six out of ten stars.
