Unexpected Redemption is based on Adeleke’s human-trafficking/organ harvesting short film The Unexpected, which he wrote, directed and produced. Not since Big Brother 23‘s Frenchie was in power has there been a Head of Household reign as chaotic as Taylor’s this week.
On paper, this week should have been uncomplicated for Taylor — the kind of easy, breezy week she had surely earned after enduring a hellish start to the season. But instead of limiting her nomination options to only those outside the Leftovers alliance, Taylor 1) toyed with the idea of putting at least one of her own allies (Turner, in this case) on the block initially, 2) considered nominating her close friend Joseph (?!) as a replacement pawn who would...

Republicans in New Mexico are up in arms over a pair of new statues installed at the Albuquerque Convention Center that depict the fictional lead characters from the TV series “Breaking Bad.”
The show, which followed a high school chemistry teacher who turns to making meth to pay for his cancer treatment, was set and filmed in Albuquerque.
“I’m glad New Mexico got the business, but really?” Republican state representative Rod Montoya told Fox News on Monday while discussing the bronze statues of Walter White and Jesse Pinkman as played by Bryan Cranston and Aaron Paul. “We’re going down the road of literally glorifying meth makers?”
Albuquerque-based conservative radio host Eddy Aragon was equally displeased by the sculptures. “It’s not the type of recognition we want for the city of Albuquerque, or for our state,” Aragon explained. “What you saw on ‘Breaking Bad’ should be a documentary,...

Following her impressive drama Unexpected in 2015, director Kris Rey is returning to school with I Used to Go Here. Starring Gillian Jacobs, Jemaine Clement, and Kate Micucci, the film was set to premiere at this year’s SXSW and is now set to be released by Gravitas Ventures on August 7. Ahead of next month’s release the first trailer and poster have now landed.
The film follows Kate Conklin (Jacobs), who has published her first novel and receives a call from her creative writing professor David Kirk-Patrick (Clement), inviting her to do a reading of her book at her alma mater. In doing so, she is given the chance to relieve her formative years again, and wonders if she can redefine herself with the experience..
Brian Tallerico said in his review for RogerEbert.com, “At its best, I Used to Go Here is a fun hangout movie, driven by Rey’s affection for her characters.

Let’s get this out of the way early, because there might be a bit of confusion. You probably know the works of filmmaker Kris Rey, but you might not because she used to go by Kris Swanberg. She directed films like “It Was Great, But I Was Ready to Come Home” (2009), “Empire Builder” (2012) and “Unexpected” (2015), and now goes by Kris Rey.

With the cancellation of the 2020 SXSW Film Festival, many of the filmmakers in its lineup were left wondering what might have been. Historically, SXSW tends to be a major platform for comedies that play well in the room, and in that vein, Kris Rey’s “I Used to Go Here” had serious potential.
The movie, which UTA planned to premiere as a sales title at the festival, has all the hallmarks of a breakout. Boasting a producing team that includes the Lonely Island trifecta of Andy Samberg, Akiva Schaffer, and Jorma Taccone, “I Used to Go Here” stars Gillian Jacobs as a young novelist who returns to her alma mater to promote her work. Once there, she resurrects a complicated relationship with her old professor (a seedy Jemaine Clement), bonds with a boisterous group of undergraduates, and wrestles with the bumpy road to success that didn’t quite pan out as she’d hoped.

Josh Thomas has come a long way in the past decade. With Season 1 of his latest TV venture “Everything’s Gonna Be Okay” coming to a close, he’s now at the helm of his second show. He has a certain handle on filling the roles of creator, writer, and star simultaneously, but it wasn’t always that way.
“When we made ‘Please Like Me,’ I’d never been on set before. I’d never seen a set. I didn’t know I was the boss of the first season. I didn’t own Final Draft when we started making it. I had to download it and figure out the shortcuts. So to make a show where like I was technically proficient was a real thrill,” Thomas told IndieWire.

This episode of Counting On is brought to you by more baby announcements and five adorable little girls held hostage...by music! The hilariously titled "Unexpected" is almost everything but: we got Jinger and Jeremy "surprising" the Vuolos with a pair of tiny Converses, Joy-Anna and Austin filling in with the obligatory house-flipping plotline, Joseph and Kendra having an ultrasound. That is...exactly what I expect from a Counting On episode, and I'm only two episodes deep when it comes to recapping. There was one unexpected treat, and that came way of the Duggarettes little girl band. Yes, in their latest act of sometimes being parents, Jim Bob and Michelle put the little girls together into their own Christian rock band. Like, Johannah and Jordyn aren't going full Creed or anything, but with songs like "Faith the Size of Mustard Seed," it is definitively a lot. Actually, faith being the...
