Home Movie Version of a Western
lavatch4 June 2018
Warning: Spoilers
The time is 1879. The place is Minnesota. The man is Jesse James on the threshold of rehabilitating himself and becoming a good family man, as opposed to a notorious outlaw. Cole Younger, Jesse's ol' sidekick, is now on the run as he tries to evade the long arm of the law. America is in transition with the old West fading into the sunset. The major dramatic question: Will Jesse be drawn back into the thrill of train-robberies just for old times sake?

This background should make for an interesting Western. Unfortunately, this amateur film has the look of a home movie. The costumes look like they were borrowed from a Halloween theme party. The filming uses overkill on extreme close-ups. The framing of individual images is typically off-center. The subtitles resemble neon signs. The wooden actors read their lines as if they are coming off of freshly written cut cards. When firearms are used, it appears as though the performers are handling them for the first time in their lives.

It is unclear how this film made it into Redbox machines. It is so bad that it makes Ed Wood and the "Disaster Artist," Tommy Wiseau, look like Orson Welles. "Jesse James v. The Black Train" is so bad that it may serve in speeding the demise of the film Western.

Absolutely Terrible!

I bought this hoping for a good film about the Wild West. Instead what I got was utter crap. The acting was shocking and the filming looked like it was done by serious amateurs. Getting my money back straight away

Lets Hear it for Bill Starr

Most reviews for this film say it was atrocious. Personally I didn't think it was that good. Couldn't understand parts of the dialogue (hence the title with the well known Lady outlaw Bill Starr). Passing it on to the charity shop now. Why should we be the only ones to suffer.

Terrible

I'm normally a big fan of westerns, but this one was absolutely terrible. The acting, the effects, and the way the scenes were put together was so so poor, it took away any authenticity that a good western should have. I couldn't even finish watching it, I had to put in an old Clint Eastwood western in order to make myself feel better about what I had just witnessed. Apparently they were doing a much better job at producing western films back in the 70's then what is coming out today.

Every Outlaw dances with the Black Train
nogodnomasters30 July 2018
Warning: Spoilers
The film centers on the waning days of Jesse James after a group of women shooting at the James Gang, standing out in the open, run Jesse out of Minnesota with Cole Younger shot and jailed. Jesse has a desire to rob "The Black Train" which was a poorly executed metaphor for the Grim Reaper. In fact every aspect of the film was poorly executed, including the hollow sound.

The biggest pity is that they didn't use real bullets in making this film. I never want to see people in a film again. It is so bad, it could be funny.

It's a WHY film
geoffkirby116 February 2023
I gave this 1/10 because I'm not allowed to give the score I really want to give... which is minus 11 out of ten. This film (note the sarcastic use of the word 'film') should ONLY be shown on April Fools Day so that, after watching it, everyone connected with it could burst into your living room and shout "Ha Ha H-Ha Ha, April Foo-ooool". It was shown on the tv channel 'Legend' - they often show some quite good movies so I'll forgive them for this one. I watched it open-mouthed and just thinking one word... WHY? Why was it made? Why am I still watching it? Why don't I go to the pub and get drunk? 🤔
