- Quotes
Ron Engelman: The FBI and the Branch Davidians each claim the other started the fire. And we may never know the truth. So, instead, let's talk about what we do know. Fact: Fresno, California, 1973. A standoff with law enforcement ends when tear gas turns to fire, killing those inside. Fact: Los Angeles, '74. Standoff between the SLA and law enforcement ends when tear gas turns to fire, killing those inside. Fact: '81, West Fork, Arkansas. A standoff, tear gas, fire, death. 1983, Smithfield, Arkansas. 1985, Philadelphia. 1987, Escondido, California. All of them... standoff, tear gas, fire, death. The FBI knows this happens, and yet they made no plan to put out a fire if one started. We are... all of us... Americans. When did we start seeing each other as the enemy?
- Crazy creditsSPOILER: EPILOGUE: "The FBI denied using incendiary devices that could have ignited a fire. They claimed the Branch Davidians intentionally started the fire in an apparent mass suicide."
"The Justice Department's Danforth Report in 2000 concluded the fire was started by the Branch Davidians. The report also acknowledged that the FBI had used incendiary flash-bang grenades in the assault."
"Surviving Branch Davidians maintained that there was never a plan for mass suicide."
"FBI negotiators successfully secured the release of 35 Branch Davidians during the siege."
"As a result of the tragedy in Waco, 76 Branch Davidians died in the fire."
"25 of them were children."
However, that does not excuse the FBI and ATF of their actions, the deaths of 76 people was avoidable. The militarization of our LEO community, on every level, is a national disgrace, and for the most part all started with Waco. The actions of the FBI, how they handle this tragedy, also led to the radicalization of many, and ultimately the OKC bombings.
The series was fine, it was a good watch. Some of the production wasn't so hot, but the acting was great and the writing was fine. Again, my main issue was the amount of conjecture, and the complete avoidance of Koresh and his pedophilia.
