bittersweet, but excellent
ivko26 January 2019
While it may not have seemed as crazy-thrilling-ride as the previous two season closers, what's really interesting is that this season finished with the team making a very proactive decision, as opposed to the reactive finales of seasons one and two. This time, instead of desperately dashing from one place to the next to save their hides, they make a conscious choice to take the next step. One which ultimately involves a large sacrifice for the greater good.

This show is all about transition; it never languishes in one spot for very long. Right or wrong, I have always felt that the constant evolution is a metaphor for life. Life is change: you may see aspects of what came before in the things that are happening now, but really they are never the same twice. That's a good thing, because change means growth and new opportunities. But it can also be sad and difficult to accept that for new things to grow sometimes old things have to die.

And so as season 3 comes to a close in a semi-familiar setting, I think the show is also bringing something else, something that many fans loved, to a close. Still, the journey of team cockroach isn't complete yet; who knows what new things to love they'll give us next season? I loved this season and I think the writers have earned enough faith to believe that wherever they are headed will be hilarious and worth falling in love with all over again.

Not really the best choice

Warning: Spoilers
Sorry but Chidi giving up all he has with Eleanor was just bad, weak and selfish. He could not deal with seeing his ex who after a mind whipe has no idea who he is? Well that is just...Eleanor should be furious with him and not crying.

Good finale

Not the biggest joke-wise, but a surprising and pretty touching ending.

Season 3: Albeit not as strong as season 2, still a very good season
alexdiflip25 January 2019
Warning: Spoilers
Season 2 upped the ante from season 1 and provided a well-focused story with lots of twist and turns.

Season 3 mostly continues that trend, taking the viewer on a journey through quite possibly the oddest story on television.

Lots of things to love about this season. The opening arc is very strong, and watching the initial experiment fall apart is very heart-breaking, especially since Michael just wants to see these four humans succeed. Unfortunately, this opening plot becomes a tad repetitive around the 3rd episode, but rejuvenated itself with "Jeremy Bearimy", one of my favorite TGP episodes to date.

After this, the next episode hurts the season a little, but afterwards, the rest of the season is remarkably strong. Particular highlights include "Janet(s)", "Chidi Sees the Time-Knife", and this episode: "Pandemonium".

As far as finales go, of the three, this one is the weakest, but that doesn't mean it's weak per say. I understand where this other review is coming from, as TGP has set such a high bar for themselves. However, I do feel like this episode is still far and above better than most any other TV comedy on today, or even in recent memory. I actually cried during this episode. I'd also like to point out that there WERE TWISTS in this episode. When Simone showed up, I almost flipped my keyboard. I'm not saying these other reviewers are wrong, but I would think truly about what you've seen before you rate it scathingly.

Character bonds this season grew and the characters become insanely close. That is a great relief after they didn't remember each other (again) at the end of the last season. That's what makes this finale so heartbreaking. Tahani grew a lot, fixing her relationship with her sister. I greatly appreciated the closing of this long running issue, and appreciate also how it was done so gracefully.

Kristen Bell and Ted Danson shine once again, showing every other comedic actor how it's done, particularly Kristen Bell, who deserved that golden globe for sure. I'd like to particularly point out her performance in the episode "A Fractured Inheritance". Her delivery in this episode is fantastic.

In conclusion, season 3 of the good place does have its weak spots, but just like always, it has spots that are stronger than most other TV comedies. I love this show and I can't wait for season 4.

Fantastic Season Finale - Emotionally Poignant and Heartbreaking
djdantw26 January 2019
Warning: Spoilers
One of the best episodes of the series in my opinion. Easily the most emotional episode of the series to date, it's absolutely heartbreaking. I can't wait to see how Chidi an Eleanor's relationship continues to develop now. Seeing another memory wipe didn't annoy me at all, considering it isn't a total reset.

Great stuff, and it's awesome to see that this show can not only be witty but also emotionally poignant. Easily in the top 5 episodes.

Forget about drama and surprise twists. This was meaningful. This was honest. It said something so profound in such a beautiful and subtle way. What a closer.

Pretending everything is alright is "The Good Place" S 3/4
edicionccq2 December 2019
Warning: Spoilers
I wasn't so excited about season three of "The Good Place" for one reason. We start once more. Season 1 ends with a reset in our leading characters' minds, and then season 2 ends at the exact same way. I thought this wasn't so good because it resets all the character development in every character that we love.

But the first part of the season was moderately good, at least the first two episodes. Then it lacks a little bit of direction with so many different adventures and making drama a little bit more the focus of the show. The comedy it becomes a minor part of the show and that might be a problem for some people. But if you can pass over the episodes without a clear direction, you will find yourself in a good last episode with some revelations.

This season is additionally a bridge to the next season that it seems pretty promising. Also, it will be the last season, but I'm not ready to say goodbye.

An absolute gut punch of an episode. Holy crap. Especially after the way things were going for Chidi and Eleanor in the last couple episodes.

I stopped watching this...
nnom7 September 2019
....and that's on me...just binged the third season on some site. This episode, in particular, was quite good..touching..heartfelt and heart rending....I don't know why, but I just didn't think there'd be THAT MUCH chemistry between Eleanor and Chidi, even with his adonis-like body. Will definitely continue to watch...you should too.

Deja vu redux
safenoe22 April 2022
Warning: Spoilers
According to Rotten Tomatoes, the third season of The Good Place has a rating of 98%, based on 47 reviews. I was quite excited about the third season.

Anyway, the final five minutes of this season 3 finale was incredibly emotional for sure. I was not at all wanting Chidi's memory to be erased. The montage video of them together deserved an Emmy really.

Chidi Annoying
killmyselfinyourbed9 April 2020
Warning: Spoilers
How are we supposed to like Chidi after this? He's so much of a weak willed loser incapable of social interaction that he needs to be rebooted? Ridiculous. A metaphysical deus ex machina does not exist in the real world; people need to be adults and deal with their problems. Such complete, cowardly inability to be responsible isn't respectable and is essentially the opposite of the moral of this show. Chidi needs to be removed from the show at this point. There is no need for this poorly written nonsense in an otherwise good show. Chidi needs to go.

bad

For whatever reason for the season finale the writers decided to stop telling jokes and instead try to make the show emotional. why make a comedy show with no jokes?
