Angst Of A Teenage Zombie
chiumt15 June 2019
A teenage flick. Formulaic thriller but interesting concept. Not a good movie. Has a ludicrous ending. But I give it a 6. For its concept and the human aspects.

Aimed at a younger audience...
paul_haakonsen19 April 2020
Right, well given the movie's title "Zombie at 17", I must admit that I weren't having any particular grand hopes or expectations for this 2018 movie from writer Christine Conradt and director Alexandre Carrière.

But still, it is a zombie movie, and given my unhealthy interest in everything zombie, of course I had to sit down and watch the movie.

So how was it? Well, it was watchable, but it felt somewhat like writer Christine Conradt was trying to make something in the zombie genre what "Twilight" was for the vampire genre. Did it work? Well, perhaps if you are a young teen watching it, sure. But for a zombie veteran such as myself, then this movie wasn't particularly outstanding.

I managed to sit through it, and yeah it did have some interesting enough moments here and there. But ultimately it was just, for me at least, a very generic and mediocre movie. It felt like it was aimed at a younger audience, and at an audience looking for something to be the next "Twilight".

It should be said that the acting in the movie was actually quite good. But the storyline was just mediocre and the ending was just a slap to the face.

I am rating "Zombie at 17" a very mediocre five out of ten stars.

Nice idea poorly executed.
Phil-King-196714 May 2020
This feels like a TV movie crossed with iZombie without the comedy and nowhere near as good...however the script is a joke.

Basically a girl has been infected and is slowly turning into a zombie, the hit-and-run part of the story mentioned in the summary is a very small part of it.

This girl is at school with what looks like bruised eyes and no one notices or mentions it including her Mum.

Also, there is a murder, the alibis given are so lame and the evidence given to the Detective clearly gives them an obvious number 1 suspect but the Detective is so dumb she just can't see it. The mention of zombies doesn't seem to surprise anyone like its something common but at the same time they don't seem to know anything about zombies even though someone is seen watching Night of the Living Dead on TV.

The script is immature, the characters are dumb and their reactions to what is happening is a joke. I'm not sure if the actors just could not bring the script to life, the script was just unworkable (even if that's not even a work you know what I mean lol) or the director screwed up.

However, after watching over a 1000 zombie movies this was a little different, the overall idea was quite good but was poorly executed and it could have been so much better.

It's watchable if you ignore the plot holes but you would be better off watching Warm Bodies (2013) or Contracted (2013)

See 'Contracted' instead.

If you want to see a MUCH better film on this same material watch 'Contracted' instead, this film was a terrible waste of time.

what the heck!
boattop4 August 2020
I realize this is directed at a younger crowd and it is a tv movie....but one reviewer said "it was scarier than silence of the lambs(sic)". His/her review was like a 10 year old's writings...Fine, but what the heck is a very young person doing watching Silence of The Lambs????? This movie is garbage..bad acting, bad everything. Stay away.

Simply love it
fatihkan128 February 2021
Sometimes you're fed up with complicated productions and looking for simple things not sucking your attention. I'm fed up with expensive productions. I love this movie's simplicity. I seems childish. Obviously for teen-age viewer category. When you think a movie is bad, you should be sure everything about it is just had. But this movie isn't bad. It's just designed for a specific TV hour.

Not even "so bad it's good."
rrberthelot12 August 2020
Warning: Spoilers
"So bad it's good" is honestly what my wife and I usually expect from a Lifetime Film. Believe my expectations weren't that high, but this was just a hot mess. The guy who played the murder reminded me of when the teacher used to make the calls read Shakespeare aloud in middle school. The plot itself is your typical Lifetime Film + iZombie + Santa Clarita diet. One reviewer mentioned something about showing her daughter the choices the female lead made. Because she makes soany good choices. For example she goes off with a kid she barely knows to the house of a grown man she barely knows, presumably not telling anyone where she's going because she's hiding the fact that she has a terminal desiease from everyone. Yep, that's a smart decision.

And don't get me started on the science. Animals injected with a neurotoxin somehow infect humans with there DNA. That's not how neurotoxins or DNA works really

Honestly, the whole thing felt like no making it cared. I think that's the worst thing I can say about any movie. I could tell the filmmakers thought it was a burden, so it burdensome to watch. Most lifetime

I'm so confused... who thought this was a good idea.
redfivenine12 April 2019
I'm confused and mad at myself for watching this. This has to be one of the worst movies I've ever seen. The story was lacking... everything. I don't come to Lifetime for Oscar worthy material but have mercy, this was a mess. The acting was sub-par at best. Although, they didn't have much to work with.

George Romero Would Approve!!!
lavatch26 November 2020
Warning: Spoilers
"Zombie at 17" hits all the right notes for a satirical take on the horror genre. Young Tia Scott was scratched by a cat and contracted a disease that is progressively turning her into a zombie. A mad race ensues to find a cure for Tia.

One of our favorite actresses, Laurie "Lifetime" Fortier plays Tia's sensitive mother, Kate. When Tia confesses her malady to her mom, Kate moves into action to cook brains and mix them up in a blender for the well-being of her daughter. She also researches the whereabouts of the mad scientist Dr. Daverow, whose lab was shut down by "activists." Dr. Daverow knows the chemical formula that will arrest Tia's zombism. The only problem is that the doctor that he has forgotten the details due to Alzheimer's.

In the best scene in the film, Kate and Tia pay a visit to Dr. Daverow, who instructs Tia to eat his brain after he has been killed, which will allow her to get into his mind to recover the formula. The two villains of the film, Jason Ellzey and Sammy Feldman, show up on cue to kill Dr. Daverow, allowing Kate to stabilize her condition.

Another outrageous scene was when Tia and her friend Flynn met with Steven, another Zombie in the making. Steven lives as a recluse and chains himself to the wall for fear of doing harm to others. Dr. Murson, the father of Flynn, fills in admirably as the doctor who will treat Tia for her zombism.

Another great characterization was that of Tia's kid brother, Ellory. For most of the film, he was a complete brat. But in one scene, he changes everything by telling Tia how much he loves her and how concerned he is about her "condition." The film was a joy to watch because it never took itself seriously, and it also serves as a good parody of the horror genre that would do George Romero proud.

Nostalgic and Unique!
catoftwilight9 November 2018
The acting was much like a Disney movie during October, so it was really nostalgic and had a lot of bits that were giggle-worthy. Unlike the other reviews that probably dropped it a few minutes in, I'd say give it a try if you're into the old-ish Disney live-action movies like: Halloween Town, Twitches, The Boy Who Cried Werewolf, Hocus Pocus, etc... But don't expect this movie to be "A+", as it's just a movie to enjoy with family and/or friends, which my mother and I definitely did.

Character wise: The closeness of the family and friends is definitely unique and should be in things more often, because much like real life and other movies, many aren't close to their family or friends. I'd love to see more movies like this, as it's very refreshing and just a positive piece of work with a happy ending.

Eat this, Not That!
johnomalley-843896 June 2022
This film is a fun, toungue-in-cheek spin in the Zombie wheelhouse with good, sometimes hilarious, dialogue and acting. The plot is easy to follow and adds a satiric bite to the "acceptance" of diversity.
