I was excited to see this movie but boy was I disappointed!
Pros: 1. The cinematography - I liked the opening credits with the views of NYC. 2. One or two actors who were natural in their acting. The actress who potrays Nancy Chacko comes to mind. Cons: 1. The choppy editing made the transition from one story to another far from seamless. It did make it very hard to follow the story. The common theme of PTSD didn't make sense or come together for me till the last scene. 2. Bad and/or forced acting from majority of the actors. 3. The language - this was a great opportunity to have a bilingual movie with Malayalam and English. Instead, the movie was for the most part entirely in Malayalam with professionals in their white collar jobs speaking in Malayalam in a hospital setting, dentist office, law offices, etc. In real life, it would be unprofessional to speak in your native tongue to colleagues speaking the same language at the workplace. Even the younger actors who portrayed kids who grew up here spoke in Malayalam exclusively, and not in English. That is definitely not reality!! 4. Atrocious dubbing - this was a deal breaker for me. I couldn't get past the dubbing artists' terrible English or American accents. The worst was the dubbing for the actress who portrayed Sophie! Surely there are young people who are raised here that speak Malayalam fluently, who would have been a better choice as dubbing artists! All in all, not a fan and I wish I could get my time back.Luckily I didn't pay for it, since it was on Prime.
