- Dass is taken off the River Bones case. She and Harrow attend a country car accident and learn some dark secrets. Quinn's car is found, Steph is questioned, Fern finds out and tells Harrow. Fern breaks up with Cal, needing to learn more.
- With the recovery of Quinn's car, both Dass and Nichols circle closer to Harrow's secret. Knowing Harrow's emotional ties to Stephanie, and his propensity to interfere, they deliberately keep him in the dark about the discovery. Fortunately for them, Harrow's attention is diverted by a road accident just outside Brisbane. Two victims, mother Kerrie Matheson and her adult son Glenn, were in a car that crashed into a tree. While the cause of death is soon established as impact trauma, Harrow and Dass find evidence of a struggle between mother and son. But no one in the community bears a grudge against Glenn; he's remembered as a model citizen and a gentle giant, inseparable from his doting, sweet-natured mother Kerrie. Mother and son were much loved in their semi-rural community. Was the crash an accident, or a murder-suicide? Meanwhile, a disturbing clue emerges in the ongoing case of Robert Quinn's disappearance. Nichols digs into Quinn's old phone records and discovers a voice mail from just before Quinn went missing. It's from Stephanie, and it is chilling.
- Soroya is taken off investigating Robert's disappearance when she and Daniel are found dating and Maxine does not want Daniel to know the bones may be Robert's, so Nichols investigates Robert and interviews Stephanie. Fern learns from Stephanie the police found Robert's car and tells Daniel. Soroya attends a car crash that killed mother, Kerrie and adult son, Glenn Matheson. Maxine orders Daniel and Lyle to work together and complete an autopsy each. Simon finds a 20 year-old bullet in Glenn's brain. Local ex-policeman Royce helps Daniel connects Glenn to the decades-old disappearance of teenager Holly and a friend of Glenn's younger sister, Audrey. As a teen Glenn killed Holly and Kerrie shot Glenn but not fatally: the bullet in his brain tuned his personality docile. Some weeks earlier the bullet moved after a minor car accident, restoring Glenn's old personality and he started choking Audrey. Cancer-terminal Kerrie caused the fatal accident to protect Audrey. Callan leaves Brisbane but Fern stays to handle issues concerning Robert's car reappearing. Police hear Stephanie's voice-mail threat to kill Robert just before his disappearance.—KGF Vissers
