"Christmas for Sweeney" is an early program written by Rod Serling. While it isn't bad, it's also not all that good and is quite skippable. So, I guess even a brilliant writer is entitled to a bit of a dud.
Sweeney (Bruce Cabot) is feeling down even though Christmas is right around the corner. It isn't that he hates the holiday but he feels the holiday is missing something. And, it turns out that it's missing gifts for all his needy friends.
The main problem with this show is that the ending is far from subtle and drips in schmaltz. Instead of a simple ending, the show becomes preachy and ended on a bit of a sour note with that speech. Overall, not bad but not very good either.
