More slice of life
peterfmodel16 March 2020
While this is yet another slice of life story, except this time Violet gains very little new knowledge, it was surprisingly entertaining. I am uncertain if I could watch it a second time, but it was a good first watch which most certainly places this in a B class.

Heartfelt slice of life

Yet another slice of life story, this one featuring love letters between betrothed royals. The technical aspects are superb as usual; I can't think of many animes this pretty and well-composed.

There is barely any progress of the overarching plot, making this a bit of a filler episode.

Also, one should be aware that of those betrothed royals the woman is fourteen and the man 24, which seems pretty ooky by my Western sensibilities. I suppose it's just a cultural difference, but still, it did not make the romantic atmosphere work for me.

Warning: Spoilers
Violet goes to write on behalf of a princess to her future husband named Damian. Damian is ten years older than her. Violet and the princess are both fourteen. The princess is beautiful and has beautiful clothes. She gets dressed in a corset as Violet watches.

The kingdom is gorgeous as well. The townspeople keep up with the letters that are made public. Violet recognizes the writing of the Doll writing for Damian and has gone to make arrangements. The Dolls oversee the writing but the royals themselves write.

Damian requests the princess to meet him in the same garden they met when she was 10. He proposes to her.
