Interesting idea, but doesn't quite work
bluecouchpotato1 August 2018
Warning: Spoilers
Caveat that I'm reviewing the first episode and will update this if later ones are better. The idea seems intriguing -- cooking for an elite sport team. But for me it didn't quite work, mainly because of the constant switching back and forth between commentary on the food and commentary on the cyclists (and the race).

There was never anything that really brought the two together. The chef repeatedly talks about the importance of nutritious food which is interesting, but the cyclists are simply shown eating it. None of them ever 'wow, this food is great!' or gives any indication that the food matters even though that is the premise of the show. I'll watch more; hoping future episodes are more interesting.

Great idea, great insight.

Overall a very interesting insight into the TDF and a professional cycling team. Love seeing the food preparation side of things - you definitely get food envy at times!

I think it would have worked better if the focus was on the team overall (still encompassing Hannah and her team) but with a more balanced detailed look at everything it takes to crack the race - not just nutrition and a recap of the race.

One thing however really wound me up! The commentator voiceover. It was so obviously re-recorded with the intention of making it sound like live commentary from the race and it's painfully obvious that it isn't.

Overall though it's well worth a watch!

Two separate shows in one
samevanson-164806 August 2022
The overall problem with this show is that the racing and the food bits are just completely separate. For what it's worth, I find the food prep part of it pretty interesting but it could do with a bit more sports science demonstrations and a bit less of Hannah smelling vegetables at farm shops. I enjoy seeing the process and panic from the food side. The racing part is completely separate and it'll not even fully sure I ever hear a single rider mention food in the whole doc, and definitely don't remember even seeing them eating it! So it's an interesting food prep doc, and an interesting behind the scenes pro sport doc, but the two parts never join together.

Behind the Scenes

If you are a big fan of the TdF like I am, this is a behind the scene look at the Tour and the Chef of the Orica team at the 2017 Tour.

Fun look behind the scenes of TdF
gibbie-841218 May 2019
Much like a foodie travelogue of France, this really works. It has some behind the scenes of Orica Scott team as they seek to get the white jersey, and a bunch of foodie activities. This really works on many levels:

1) Bike racing novices are treated to how a world tour team operates, their strategies, and frustrations 2) Travelogue of France - beautiful country! 3) Food channel type cooking - literal farm to table cooking. Everything they make is so amazing.

Overall this is short enough to keep it interesting, and long enough to get a feel for a 3 week race, and cooking for a 3 week race.

Great behind the « scenes » of TdF
photostarling13 February 2019
While not perfect I loved it! Great documentary about unknow aspect of the TdF

Not too dramatic And very informative about the nutrition aspect of the TdF Even the BBQ dinner is showing some logistics aspects that are, or at least feel, real without a false drama often seen in other documentary of this kind

Anoying is the false « tour de France descriptions » done with off voice narration

But very fun to watch

No more Hannah please!
bhushanpatil-5531320 May 2021
The race shots and music is so nice to feel. On other side the chef Hannah and her team are so dull. Their dialogues sometimes not even made sense. I skipped most of their parts but unfortunately they have covered most of the series. Please make next part without this team please !!

Unsafe cooking, this was shocking
funismyname3 February 2024
Warning: Spoilers
Hannah Grant appears to have little understanding of food safety. I watched her eat tuna raw which had been filleted on a boat deck. You can't just catch fish from the ocean, use a dirty knife on your boat with no cutting board to chop it up, and then eat it raw. That can kill you.

Earlier, she boasts about her cooking while skewering steaks on laurel wood sticks she gathered. Laurel wood can't be used for food, it's toxic. Laurel leaves (Bay leaf) are safe in food when not burned. Laurel wood however is never safe to cook with. Information about these things takes one minute to search for on the Internet. There's no excusing ignorance of this kind anymore since we all have unlimited information literally in our hands all day.

Wood used for smoking and cooking that is safe to use comes from a very short list. Generally, that's nut bearing trees, maple, hickory, or orchard trees like apple. Yes, you can use any wood to make a campfire, but if you want to cook food on it that isn't in a cast iron pot, the wood needs to be safe. For example, cooking hotdogs and marshmallows over pine is toxic. Please don't poison your kids when you go camping parents. Look this information up first.

I attempted to reach out to Hannah Grant via her website. Weeks later, I have not received a response. This indicates to me that she's aware of her mistakes and refuses to acknowledge them publicly.

If you are a pro athlete, a cyclist, or just someone at home who likes to cook, watch out for yourself. I wouldn't eat any food prepared by Hannah Grant or her staff. How can she have worked for NOMA and not know these things? I was expecting amazing cooking paired with an inside look at pro cycling. What I saw was unprofessional and horrified me.

This is literally the worst food safety for pro athletes I've seen since I caught the pro football teams in New Orleans filling their team Gatorade coolers from a garden hose. Don't do that either. Drinking from garden hoses is very bad for you.
