"Friday Night" was a return to pre-recorded interviews for Terry Wogan, after seven years of live shows. Guests Edwina Currie and Max Clifford clashed during this edition, which was reported in the Sandwell Evening Mail (Friday 9th October 1992) as being recorded "last night".
Ranked 97th in the charts, with 4.4 million viewers.
There are many moments of this edition that retroactively have more subtext than was apparent at the time. In 2002, Edwina Currie published diaries that revealed a four-year affair with the then prime minister John Major between 1984 and 1988.
When Edwina Currie scornfully asks media PR agent Max Clifford if he was thinking of being the PR for John Major, Frank Skinner jokes "Why, what's he done?" to silence from Edwina, followed by a "Sorry." Although her silence and Frank's apology are based around the fact that Major was perceived to be the head of Currie's party, in hindsight Frank's joking assertions that Major had an affair - "Surely the prime minister hasn't been in bed with Michael Winner?" - have more meaning in hindsight. There are also other instances, with Terry noting that Currie is "pro Major".
