Kerry Ehrin wrote the pilot in three weeks. She was hired in April 2018 and with production scheduled to begin in November 2018. She admitted "It was the hardest year of my work life ever. But it was also incredibly rewarding."
On an Interview with Lisa Kudrow for Variety, Jennifer Aniston said she met producer Michael Ellenberg while he was working on The Leftovers (2014) (starring her ex-husband Justin Theroux). She told him she wasn't against coming back to TV if it was for the right part. He right away told her, he had the perfect idea for her and pitch her the plot of the show. She was really excited and later agreed to join & produce the show with her friend Reese Witherspoon.
In 2020, Clémentine Sarlat, a french journalist, was inspired by the series and its finale to denounce sexist remarks within her editorial staff which led to the dismissal of three members of the channel.
Michael Ellenberg had the idea of the TV Series, based on the book of Brian Stelter. He first went to Reese Witherspoon and then to Jennifer Aniston.
