Into the spooky
pattmayne3 December 2019
The first episode set it up and now we're right in the spooky zone, everything's already moving, hints at psychological or occult thriller elements.

This is good. M. Night's movies always create a wonderful atmosphere and conjure a great mystery. Sometimes he knocks it flat with twist endings, but we're not there yet so this is still a rich and strange tale, full of meaning, and engaging characters.

Creepy.

Warning: Spoilers
4 out of 5 stars. Sean is shocked that the life like doll is an actual baby. Suspecting the nanny stole someones baby. Sean is getting splinters everywhere mysteriously. Dorothy is acting like nothing changed. The direction, writing, and story is creepy and strange in a good way. It just gets stranger that grabs your attention.

Sean is pretty disturbed about what happened with the doll. They ask themselves some questions to know how is the real baby? Sean try to know more about Leanne. This episode is till pretty intriguing and we can see more about Leanne:

I sat thru the episode on the edge. The servant really serves a really creepy experience, in a good way. The ending of episode one was jaw dropping and the episode two continues to deliver.

The actors are doing a really god job. Ao far i would not aay its horror, moatly a creepy thriller.

SUPER SPOILERS for FUTURE REFERENCE.

Warning: Spoilers
This review is for both S1 and S2. I decided to choose THIS spot for those watching/reading. It's important to let you all know NOW why I kept watching (and maybe give you some hope when feeling it is going nowhere).

The entire show feels like it is trying to be 100% to a book. Those of you who read books almost ALWAYS have a slight (or huge) complaint that they wished "it was faithful to the book." This ENTIRETY feels very much like they are sticking to every detail one would find in a book. Right there should tell you if you are willing to stick it out.

Another thing: I was raised in a Polish American Roman Catholic School a BILLION years ago. I caught on immediately that this was going to be a God vs Human Temptation story. I picked up all the cues--albeit incredibly subtle and YES drawn out--but I knew this was going to get hairy canary and huge if I just had the patience. Which I do. I'm not from the ThrillaMinute Generation where the second I hear a buzz, I have to jump to see the breaking (garbage) news.

Letting you know right now that there is a lot of insane, annoying, confusing, VERY DARK tones to this show. This is about God's Servant...this is all about Leanne (but we're supposed to think it is about everything else but her along the way). So when you are complaining about how slow it is, think about "wtf does this have to do with HER?" It does. Eventually, it ALL does.

While the dimmer folks didn't begin to catch on till well into S2, I'm trying to tell you NOW: It gets good, it ALL begins to tie nicely in a black bow by the end of S2, wrapped in Jericho.

The Temptation of Christ is nothing compared to this. All earthbound Angels are tempted waaaay more than that. Ever watch the movie Michael with Travolta? Ok, I've said too much.

Try to enjoy the show.

A lot more interesting then the first episode
cameronjames-8695922 December 2019
This episode was really tense, and just flat out creep, and had me asking a lot more question and is keeping me a lot more hooked. This episode is also a lot more creepy and weird then the past episode. The cast is also great once again and is selling each performance.

Not much better...
Just-A-Girl-1411 August 2020
Warning: Spoilers
Sorry to disagree with the other reviews but I don't see what's so great about the show. Yes it's creepy and intriguing and the acting is good but the pace is so SLOW and I have a problem with the actions of the supposedly sane characters. This episode is a little better than the first one but it's still not good enough. We don't know what's going on and the husband and brother are acting really weird! If the mother is insane then her behaviour makes sense but what are her husband and brother think they are doing??? Call the cops, call the shrink or do something! Seriously, grow a pair and find a better plan than just go along with whatever this is. Also, how many splinters is he going to dig out of his skin before he realise something is seriously wrong? These things are huge! If you think the girl (I forgot her name) is a baby snatcher then maybe she is also doing the splinters thing somehow. What you don't do is keep a strange baby and a criminal under your roof. Not only for your own protection but also for the sake of your wife and the sake of the baby. And as a last resort, if there's no other way and you can't save your wife then save yourself and RUN! I'm still going to watch. I haven't given up on the show yet. There's an interesting premise and a lot of good stuff to it but PLEASE PICK UP THE PACE!

Wood - 102

Warning: Spoilers
I think Apple was smart to give us multiple episodes out of the gate because a week wait to see this would have been bad.

I am enjoying the program overall because we don't get enough shows like this on TV anymore, but I think it has been a little underwhelming so far.
