Great film
Steph422 November 2020
This is a low budget film, so don't expect a Marvel quality movie. This is a great film with a new twist on vampires. We really enjoyed it. There are some unexpected funny moments too.

Vampires in the (semi) real world!
keepfishin200524 April 2021
Warning: Spoilers
I feel like every time I read or write a movie review, so much of the ratings are based on expectations. It's hard not to allow preconceived ideas get in the way of an accurate assessment. Needless to say, I found this little film on TUBI, and went in with very low expectations. I assumed I would shut it off ten or fifteen minutes in and flip around until I found something is already seen a million times. I was wrong.

I will say, upon seeing Joe for the first time, as visions of Tommy Wiseau danced through my head, I almost turned it off right then, but I didn't.

A gritty and less romanticized view of vampire life, I felt like even the barflys, pimps, and prostitutes were convincing and the dialogue in those parts was well written.

If you're coming in expecting Oscar worthy performances, you're in the wrong place, and while the movie is maybe 15-20 minutes long, with a few extra kill scenes and a somewhat meaningless subplot leading to the films resolution, I was honestly interested in the characters and where they would go. While one main character got a decent end, the other ends up, sort of, open ended which was disappointing. Overall though, it was a nice little find for a Friday night.

Bad, just Bad!

Warning: Spoilers
This is really bad, had to turn it off! Bad acting, poor cinematography and the musical score will drive you crazy! If you make it through the total boredom of the entire 116 minutes of this so called Vampire movie, you are guaranteed to set your own self on fire at the end! No honest person will rate this film above a 4/10! Now that the REAL REVIEWS are coming in, you can clearly see that I was right about the 4/10.....Skip this one!

Boring, 10 star reviews are BS
gfrancis020 August 2021
Warning: Spoilers
First of all, any 10 star review for this is an obvious shill, those people should be barred from posting reviews.

This movie is 90% dialog. Some of the dialog is OK, some is super dopey, especially during the drinking scenes. The plot itself is idiotic, both overall and the details. Like that a cold blooded vampire could hide their body temperature by rubbing a couple of hand warmers on themselves for 10 seconds. Or that they could leave multiple bodies all over town and walk around bloody and not get noticed. This obviously cheaply made indie film has decent editing, lighting, sound and acting, but that alone does not make it something worth spending time on. There are 1000s of better TV shows and movies out there, skip this one.

A new vision of Vampires
markwrangham-488441 November 2020
Warning: Spoilers
There have been plenty of adaptations of the vampire film genre over the years. It is probably the most enduring of all horror themes.

Blood from Stone is a new contemporary take on Vampires and actually covers an area that has always intrigued me, how would anyone cope with the mental stresses of living that long, and how do you adapt in a world where it isn't easy to hide yourself away anymore. Blood from Stone drops you into the middle of a relationship breakup between two vampires Jure and Darya, the struggle of one to move on with their life and the other on a completely self destructive path to oblivion with alcohol and drugs at the loss of the relationship. The twist I love here is that to get drunk and high Jure has to feed on people who are in that state. The movie follows his unravelling life and the way for all the vampire characters living within modern confines whilst trying to subdue their natural urges to hunt never allows them to truly style in life.

The acting throughout is right on point throughout, Vanja Kapetanovic is a man mountain with grace and poise, who conveys a road weariness and philosophical side when in conversation with his pray before sinking his teeth in their neck. There are scenes where this add a real sense of tension and dread. The action conveys his centuries of killing experience as he just nonchalantly dispatches groups of pray. Counterbalance this performance with Gabriella Toth who plays Darya who seems to be the eternally conflicted addict trying to change her life only for her ex to keep turning a drawing her back into the habits she is running from. As things roll on Jure's sister Viktoria arrives in town to sort him out and guide him back on a better path, yet she is also drawn back into hunting, but as they say 'What happens in Vegas....'

There are a number of really memorable scenes in the movie, particularly a cab ride and a night out in a remote bar. The cinematography in the film is superb, the make-up and effects are first class, there's a great soundtrack and to be honest when the movie finishes I couldn't believe it was almost 2 hours long.

If you like a vampire movie with a bite more depth then I would recommend Blood From Stone.

If Vampires had to deal with human issues
silkroadfilms2 November 2020
Blood from Stone is thoroughly entertaining take on the vampire genre. It reminds me of the movie The Hunger. However this film is much more grounded. The vampires are struggling with the weight of being undead and trying to have a semblance of normality in a modern human world. The main vampire, Jure is battling emotional and substance abuse issues. A lot of the humor is derived from his life spiraling out of control, almost an allegory for a junkie just about to hit rock bottom. The core of its story is a family and relationship drama wrapped around a vampire theme. Several scenes get bloody enough to satisfy horror fans and the dark comedy ebbs and flows like waves whenever Jure is out on a hunt. The acting and casting is solid with Gabriella Toth and Nika Khitrova rounding out the main cast. Definitely a fun to watch indie horror film.

It's not your ordinary Indie Movie
lcpexpert16 November 2020
This is not your regular cheesy vampire movie. It can get gory at times but the story is current, introspective and engaging. The actors, lead and supporting, perfect in their roles. Vanja Kapetanovic as Jure was just perfect. A muscular guy who can act?! Who would have expected that! Gabrilella and Nika definitely fits the role. The music, lighting and pacing of the story was just outstanding! The whole movie will keep you engaged.

Great Acting, Solid Writing
janepojawa2 November 2020
Joe's life is falling apart. He's self-destructive, he's an alcoholic and he just followed his love, Darya, to Las Vegas to try to make things right with her. It's going about as well as you'd expect. She's had enough and calls his big sister Viktoria to come straighten him out. And that's when all hell breaks loose. You see, they're all vampires. This story unfolds at a leisurely pace, except for the murders which happen swiftly and brutally. The acting is excellent throughout and not just for the main characters, Vanja Kapetanovic, Gabriella Toth and the sublime Nika Khitrova - even the victims bring a lot of weight to their roles. This is a spare, character-driven piece, more like Let the Right One In and less like Twilight. Well-written and thoughtful with some terrific performances.

Blood From Stone isn't like any vampire movie I've ever seen.
muauroraa10 November 2020
Blood From Stone isn't like any vampire movie I've ever seen. It has all the best elements of a vampire flick, but is reimagined in a modern way. This movie is thought provoking in so many ways; it thoughtfully shines a light on the human condition. This film is able to carry heavy existential themes with its perfect balance of humor, irony, and action. The acting is heartfelt and genuine, with just the right amount of intensity (which hasn't been achieved in many vampire flicks). Aesthetically, the film is stunning! The cinematography, lighting, and score make it so fun to watch!!!

Ordinary (Dead) People
mathurahawley3 November 2020
It's not about vampires. It's a relationship and existential satire/drama that stars vampires. What if questioning if you fit into the new world, or if you're capable or worthy of being in a loving relationship was told through the eyes of vampires? It flips the genre on its side, and it's a brilliant satire not only of what we have come to expect from a horror film, but from the POV that their bloody needs and carnal desires are simply un-human nature, and don't tell the real story of who they are. There are some surprising and beautifully crafted scenes of gore and smartly written dialogue (even during those scenes) that take it all to an entirely new place. The cast is spot on and the star of the film Vanja Kapetanovic is so good and so head-first into this part that it sometimes feels like a documentary crew is following him (except for the gorgeous way it's shot against the shiny facade of Vegas). It obviously was made before 2020, but it couldn't be more relevant to the relationship and personal introspection forced upon us all this year. And - after all that - it made me laugh a lot. It's a satire upon subtle satire, so just love the parts where they go full vampire, and feel the rest as it relates to trying to fit into the world and trying to find some love.

An interesting modern take on the vampire genre
maryanntc11 November 2020
This movie came at the perfect time around Halloween, and kept me entertained and wanting to see what happens next! I never really thought about what a modern-day vampire would be like, but this film does a great job presenting the woes that could come about with love, temptations, etc. The audio was difficult to make out at times, but I thought they did a great job with realistic special effects, the plot was engaging, and the production was high quality. Although I don't watch many indie films and am unable to weigh it against comparable others, I was very impressed to find out that such a small crew worked on this. Tons of kudos to them!

Must see.
tjg-7872116 November 2020
Geoff Ryan knocked it out of the park on this flick. Vanja Kapetanovic was perfect for this film. Not to mention Gabriella Toth and Nika Khitrova along with the rest of the cast. Not your ordinary everyday vampire flick. Not gonna give it up so you have to see for yourself. A little love story a little humor, as well as drama. Very entertaining.

A gripping relationship drama, with vampires.
jonahkersey3 November 2020
The best thing about this vampire movie is that it's not about vampires. This horror film is a dramatic look at loneliness, family dynamics, and the feeling of being trapped in a relationship. There's ample blood and action to keep any watcher hooked, but the scenes that really held my intrigue were between the two leads (who were both absolutely masterful in their portrayal) watching the co-dependence and how they tangled with their coinciding need and disdain. I loved the choice of setting. These gorgeous, but decaying, characters fight for their lives under Las Vegas' dazzling facade that was captured so magnificently in the cinematography. Blood From Stone is a great horror film, and moreso, It's a great film.

Vampire struggles in a modern era indie film
BeBeBlue75 February 2021
Warning: Spoilers
This is a different type of vampire movie. It's not Twilight, Underworld, or Christopher Lee's Dracula films. If you are expecting a more traditional vampire story with vampire hunters, then this film is not for you. With that said, I found it to be an interesting take on the vampire genre.

SPOILERS

The story is set in modern times with a western vibe, indie feel. The vampire Joe is stuck trying to adapt to the modern times. It was interesting to see a story about a vampire who finds his long life no longer has meaning or purpose for him.

He chases his ex-woman vampire who no longer desires to be in a relationship with him. His ex tries to live a normal life as much as she can including having a job in a casino. However, every time Joe reappears in her life, Darya's life becomes chaotic, and she struggles to hide her identity. It was amusing to see Joe become a Uber-type driver that he used as a ruse to hunt his victims. Fed up with Joe's destructive behavior and fearful his crimes will expose her; his ex pulls the vampire family intervention card for help with his destructive stalker behavior.

He reminisces when the world was new and life simple that made it easier for his kind to exist. He envies humans who find purpose in their short lives before they die one day. From the beginning of the film, I kept thinking Jure or "Joe" want to be discovered and killed. His preoccupation with finding his life's purpose and fantasizing about his death were sad. The film suggests that vampires who could not adapt like his mother and father were doomed to be total recluses or homicidal maniacs. Some parts of Joe's musing reminded of me of the character Louis in Anne Rice's novel "Interview with the Vampire." Overall, I found the film enjoyable and interesting.

A modern bloodthirsty experience.
Erick_Till16 March 2022
We cannot fail to consider the budget limit. This is not a Marvel where special effects are more valuable than acting.

This film is a gem of the genre.

It's well directed, has solid acting, good soundtrack and bold cinematography. The story is good and the characters consistent. Vanja is great and Gabriella is so cute.

How pleasant it is to see her acting. I hope she has many opportunities.

The film is a trip of surprises that shocks over time.

If you like vampire movies, go for it, he is very creative and shows what the daily life of vampires would be like surrounded by banal problems in modern times.

Worth a Watch!
DonSwanson2 December 2020
Maybe not as groundbreakingly new vision of vampires as some other reviews may lead you to believe, but still a very thoughtful and well made indie film with solid production value and great performances.

There's not necessarily a lot new here, but the genre tropes aren't the most common and they're used well. If you're a fan of vampires, or just solid character dramas, you'll likely enjoy Blood from Stone!

Vampire story from a new perspective
eszterfercsak18 November 2020
Warning: Spoilers
Exciting movie from the beginning till the end in a performance of great actors and actresses. It kept me on my toes, could never predict what the next action might be. Loved the unusual story line and the romance too,I even got emotional by the end which was a bonus as I wouldn't expect it whilst watching a horror movie. I'd also love to see the origins of how Nicko and Joe have met in the past.

A remarkable, entertaining Vampire film solidly based in sensible reality. Sharp writing and good performances balance drama and gory action. Its likely one of the best Vampire films I have seen in a while. Ranks well with Lugosi's Dracula, Interview with a Vampire, Byzantium, Bram Stoker's Dracula, Shadow of a Vampire. It was a real treat to watch, and I look forward to more from this filmaker.

Total Badassery!
idarbo13 December 2020
An original take on the vampire genre, Blood from Stone is a cleaver and beautifully shot indie film. Vanja Kapetanovic brings great charisma to the screen and delivers one hell of a performance. The gore action is top notch but the film goes deeper and offers complex characters as well as a bold ending:)

A vampire existensial crisis movie? Yes Please!
alanbarr-7366510 December 2020
Stumbled onto this movie on my amazon prime, and loved the unusual and often darkly hilarious take on being a vampire in a modern world. As a film-maker I realize the challenges of low budget, but this team pulled it off. Top-notch cinematography alongside witty writing and a few very memorable acting performances make this little flick really stand out for me. Give it a shot, you'll be laughing and covering your mouth at the same time.
