080817.mp4 is so obcure, so off the grid, so unknown to the general public that when I watched it I can confirm it wasn't even on IMDB and in order to rate/review it I had to add it myself.
It tells the story of two teenagers who plan on spending a night in the middle of the Cambridgeshire woods as part of their social media channel but as with all found footage movies all doesn't go to plan.
The lack of budget shows but then again that's an expectation with found footage films, it has all your usual tropes and is predictible from start to finish.
However, there are considerably worse ones out there. As soon as The Blair Witch Project (1999) was released every man and his dog began making bargain bin no budget films of their own and most have been appalling.
Jonah Cairns acts, directs and edits and does a competent enough job all things things considered. He makes the right decision to keep it short at 45 minutes, he doesn't overshoot and try to add sfx that could have killed the film and the writing is above par.
This certainly isn't for everyone but it's a good start to what I hope is the start of bigger things for this young fella.
The Good:
Well made
The Bad:
Weak finale
Usual sub-genre restrictions
Things I Learnt From This Movie:
This is why I don't go into the woods at night, come on people!
