Nothing Shattered

Warning: Spoilers
Probably the best episode of GLOW to date. While there were some good moments in this episode from Sam and Arthie having an awkward conversation to Bash's guilt, it was all about the explosive fight between Debbie and Ruth. This is the thing that will give both of them an Emmy nomination next year. We could feel the pain and the struggle from the previous episodes building to this point and it was remarkable TV to watch.

G.L.O.W - Nothing Shattered
Scarecrow-8822 September 2018
Warning: Spoilers
I would gather that what most G.L.O.W fans will most get out of "Nothing Shattered" is that FINALLY Ruth and Debbie cathartically just unload all of their pent-up frustrations and building-for-two-seasons hostilities against each other in the hospital room while Ruth awaits her eventual release from the E.R. Ruth has a break, but its clean and will heal, a cast on her for several weeks. What really makes this episode special is that Sam Sylva and all the GLOW girls really show their love, affection, and warm feelings for Ruth, truly allowing her to see just how they appreciate her. While Gilpin is fully nude in the beginning after a shower (not meant to titillate as much as show that even with Bash in the locker room with towel and clean clothes, Debbie is too numb to even care), it isn't just her willingness to bare her body but also her character's soul, unleashing all of it upon an equally tired and ready-to-rage-back Brie's Ruth...this is their showcase, an in-the-making release coming at just the right time in the second season despite plenty of episodes worth of accumulation to get to it. The adultery, career rivalry, relationship woes, the whole shebang just uncaged and unfiltered with the two women no longer letting anything else remain buried. To surface all of it and put it out there once and for all, the two women can now put it to rest. The episode also has a montage of GLOW wrestlers trying to keep Ruth occupied while waiting on the hospital to X-Ray her, deliver their diagnosis, apply the cast, and release her. Sweet moments, also: Sam tells Ruth that he cannot do the show without her and Russell abandoned his camera operating duties to carry Ruth out of the ring and to the limo so she could be driven to the hospital. Ruth's roller coaster, emotional journey throughout the episode gives actress Brie some real meat on the bone...this is a great highlight in her career for sure. Gilpin is just as good, with her troubles (the girls looking on at her with disappointment when she eventually comes to the hospital and trying to remain chill when approaching Ruth in the hospital room, the attempted calm exterior giving way to a lashing out and the actual revisit when she's finally free of the burdens carried for too long) also unfolded during the course of the episode. This episode is the very reason G.L.O.W has such a cult audience that really likes it: it gives good actors a chance to exercise those thespian chops. Sam competing with Russell for Ruth's attention is hilarious.
