A few years ago I ended up going to Geneva twice in a short period of time. I noticed a few things. You needed to take out a mortgage to buy food. No wonder the Swiss do not want to return the hidden Nazi loot, they need it to afford the food themselves or go to France to eat, the border is actually nearby.
Given Geneva is a location of a major UN office, it also has one big red light district. After all those diplomats need late night entertainment. The issue for me was that I was due to return with my wife and kids and my family friendly hotel was also bang middle of the red light district!
Now Bad Ragaz may be at the other end of Switzerland, it is nearby Davos which holds World Economic Forum meetings. Another place for the great and the good. The Grand Resort would fit the bill. The rooms are expensive and the Michelin starred restaurant presumably has eye watering prices. However we get to see little outside of the hotel area apart from a local vineyard, making you wonder how exciting is the town itself?
However this is a wellness hotel, it offers guests a healthy mind and body. Thy have a pillow butler. They have a wonderful thermal spa. You can eat food which has been designed by expert dieticians. You have all kinds of doctors and scientists examining your mind and your body. Giles discovers that he wakes up several times at night but that is maybe because he ends up wondering if all these doctors are really needed for the guests.
Again it is Monica who is in her element in the kitchen but she is taken aback by different grades of natural fizzy water. The hotel's manager is a local boy who grew up in the vicinity and returned home after years working in hotels around the globe.
I just did not find the Grand Resort an exciting hotel, there was little for me that said wow. It is for rich businessmen who probably take a swim, see the doctor and end up playing golf.
