As a Belgian I'm always in for a new Belgian thriller or horror movie. As a result I started watching "Memento Mori" with a certain degree of enthusiasm, which seems to indicate that I've become a gullible fool.
"Memento", as it turns out, is a particularly bad movie - I suppose a bad horror movie ? - which combines equal amounts of nonsense and nastiness. The title is unoriginal ; the story makes no sense ; the atmosphere does not convince ; the characters constantly change their viewpoint, nature and motivation ; the dialogue is dull ; and there is an overload of needless nudity and porn, often of the more violent kind. There is also an overload of frilly feminine lingerie, to the point of insanity.
Ah yes, I forgot to mention the symbolism - to say that the symbolism is obvious is somewhat like saying that the Sahara is warm or that Adolf Hitler did not fully embrace the concept of universal brotherhood.
Flee, flee, flee : remember, life is short and you too will die... So there's really no excuse for wasting your precious time on this Flemish monstrosity.
