- Violet goes to assist a medically ill woman whose daughter Anne assumes that she is being ignored by her mother. It isn't until later on her life she realizes what she was really doing for her.
- Violet arrives at a mansion where a young girl named Anne lives with her wealthy, but sickly, mother. Anne's mother has hired Violet for an entire week to write letters, but Anne is not told what the letters are about or who they are for. In addition, Anne is both mistrustful and fascinated by Violet, as she mistakenly believes her to be an actual living doll due to her prosthetic arms. Over the next week, Anne starts spending more time with Violet trying to play with her. However, as the days pass, Anne begins to believe that her mother cares more about the letters than her. After an angry outburst, Anne runs away from home. Violet goes after Anna and manages to calm her down, pointing out how she shouldn't blame herself for her mother's illness. After the week passes, Violet takes her leave and Anne bids her farewell, finally realizing that she's a real person and not a doll. Afterwards, Anne continues living with her mother, wondering who the letters are for. Back at the post office, Violet reveals to her coworkers that Anne's mother had written letters to Anne that would be delivered to her on every birthday for the next fifty years. Violet then breaks down in tears at the thought of Anne having to live alone after her mother's death, and Cattleya comforts her. Meanwhile, Anne continues to live her life after her mother's death and begins receiving her letters every year on her birthday, and eventually grows up to a beautiful women, falls in love and start a family of her own.
