The episode is a tribute to Lupin III: Part III (1984), where Lupin wore a pink jacket and his stories were more comical and bizarre.
Throughout his animated history, Lupin III has worn jackets of a varying color between TV shows (green, red, pink and blue). For this episode Lupin has on the pink jacket, and in Lupin's hideout there is a coat rack with three jackets - blue, red and green.
At the end of the episode, Lupin makes a pass at Fujiko and she hits him with a mallet that reads "10t" (ten tonnes). This is a homage to the action comedy City Hunter (1987), where its heroine Kaori Makimura repeatedly hit the hero Ryo Saeba with a mallet reading 100t (and various other amounts).
The episode is loosely based on The Miami Bank Raid Anniversary (1980), which involved a publicity stunt where Lupin is outsmarted with a trick safe.
The second eye catch features Lupin with the caricature of himself in the letter he wrote to Zenigata in 'The 10 Million Dollar Key', Fujiko with the apple from the second opening of 'Part III', Jigen with his Play Bohz magazine from 'The Man is Called the Death Garb' and Goemon with the alleged skeleton he finds on the river bank in 'The Ghost of New York'.
