Why not find a bit of humor in death?
Msbnitski31 December 2018
We will all die. We will all lose loved ones too. This program shows a family, co workers and friends that truly care about their business and the families that they help through the process of losing a loved one. It not over morbid nor is it overly silly. They love their work and they care about the grieving process. It's never easy when dealing with death and to see the wonderful interaction these people have with their community is very touching.

It's always interesting to see how other cultures deal with the death of one of their own people. We can always learn about other people in the world when it comes to rituals, beliefs and customs. I really enjoyed this show. It was not only informative but touching to see real people deal with real events, loss of a loved one. I hope that all people, including children watch this. It takes the unknown out of death and it shows the many ways that people deal with grief.

Just stumbled on it

But I really like this show. It's not morbid or disrespectful. I never thought I would like a show like this but I do. It's a view of how respectful a planned or unplanned goodbye can be. Sometimes it's hard to see families paying there respect on the loss of a young person. But it's part of the circle of life. Why not show how things can be done?

Pleasantly surprised
malenalopez13 September 2019
I came across this on Netflix and since I'm currently in the process of planning my father's funeral arrangements, I figured I'd bite the bullet and see how other people deal with grief. I was pleasantly surprised at how detail oriented these group of funeral directors are. They take pride in their work and you can see that they are proud of the work they do. Additionally, as someone with a Hispanic background death is treated/seen differently. It's great to see how other cultures keep their traditions alive and how they have intertwined western cultures to their native/indigenous traditions. Overall, it's a great educational show and it's very tastefully done in a way where the privacy of the deceased and their families is respected and maintained.

Absolutely love this show

It made me laugh, it made me cry, and Francis' girlish giggle is infectious. It really puts the fun in funeral and makes the whole process of dying less frightening. I especially liked the bits with "Nona" - she's a wonderful character.

This is just a great show. It's a unique series and I find is getting better with the progression of the series. You quickly fall in love with the characters. They're gifted in their profession.

A breath of fresh air!

Life, in it's brevity, has oftentimes made me ignore what will be a certainty to us all. Death is an incredibly delicate subject, and yet something that we must all face eventually. I have never been a fan of reality shows, and yet, The Casketeers drew me in instantly. It takes a special team of people to curate a show that incorporates minor triviality and yet gives reverence to the deceased and their family. Yes, you will definitely ugly-cry while watching, but you will most certainly laugh out loud as well.

I absolutely love this show... It makes you laugh, cry, reflect, and really put things in perspective. I adore everyone in the show... they are so real, and they take such pride in their jobs, and truly pay honor to their culture and customs.

Keep an open mind...

Different type of reality tv show compared to the usual. With The Casketeers it brings out something we all may find taboo. However it shows alot of respect & love about what their show is about. And every programme is dedicated to the deceased which is really neat. Funny, happy, sad, cultural, loving, respectful, enjoyable, open mind, a few words that best describes this programme. Greatly looking forward to season 3. Woohoo.

We all have to deal with death, so why shouldn't we see what happens?
btelfer-1970029 March 2019
I don't know if the first reviewer actually SAW any episodes, but my wife and I think it's a lovely show. Death comes to everyone, and it's nice to see the concern these people have for the deceased and their families. We especially enjoy the added cultural level that comes from this being in New Zealand. If you pay attention, you will see that there is never any egregious display of the bodies. I hope the reviewer is able to come to terms with his feelings about death before he has to deal with it himself.

Heart Warming

If only everyone in the business was there for the loved ones of the deceased and not just the money.

The proprietor clearly loves his job. He's meticulous, caring, and loving. I would love to work for someone like him. Despite the subject matter - death - you soon forget, because this is about family, love, life, living, respect, tradition, and death

The Maori culture is a loving, respectful, and caring one and this show displays this in a gentle, loving manner. There's that word again - loving - and it comes to mind again and again.

You, the audience, come to care about everyone working at Tipene Funeral Home and the families of the deceased. Highly recommended!

Excellent rrality tv series, hard to beat
trevor-303014 February 2019
Down to earth, sadness, respect and appropriate humour. It's a very well shot and edited reality series. Despite the topic dealt with, it is done amazingly well. The funeral directors themselves are also amazing.

Amazing
bellamoeamatoali21 May 2020
I'm Polynesian but I've moved away for university and I get homesick sometimes by when I watch this show it really makes me feel at home. Not the funeral bits but everything else the humour, shenanigans and just the culture. If your not Polynesian it's still an amazing. You learn a lot about the culture and it's truly amazing. 10 out of 10

A wickedly funny and moving show!
kerry-513974 July 2019
This ia a great reality show. I could not tell in the beginning if it was a real show with real people or actors.... but realized it had to be real. I am amazed that so many families open themselves up to being filmed at a most emotional time, but what I have learned from this show about Maori and Samoan culture and their view of death explains it. I am an atheist and hate the American way of death and still do not like funerals at all - waste of money and time - but really like how these polynesian cultures express grief and family love.

The most interesting part of the show is the the relationship of Francis and his wife. They are a hoot and if half of what is shown is actually true then they are quite a pair.

The other staff people are also a hoot and even though I hate funerals and most directors...they would be a fun crowd to work with.

Give this show a try!

I love this show. Francis and his team show us what life is like being a funeral director. It has opened my eyes to the sweet sweet nature one must possess to perform this role. Thoroughly enjoying every episode and can't wait for season 2 to be shown here in Australia. Thank you Netflix. Thank you Francis for being so Frank.

Fantastic Show
sbholmes-0827220 February 2019
Such a fantastic show that shows much of the culture if the Maori people. All the families of the deceased agreed to being shown. They delve into what it takes to run a funeral home that not many people are aware of and allows for a cross cultural experience. The Tipene family is so incredibly respectful and work hard to ensure the dead are respected and well cared for. You also see first hand the intricacies of running a funeral home, that most people dont think about. As a former morticians assistant, you have to keep a air of humor with you. Because if you don't, it will consume you alive and take you down a very dark path. They are honest and real. Definitely a good watch.

Awesome KIWI reality show!
lilpinky-355727 March 2019
I love Francis, his lovely wife and the awesome entire team/crew at Tipene Funerals. This show is different from the same old realities. I appreciate watching what I don't see in my everyday life. I feel and enjoy everybodies earthly vibe on here. From sad to funny and you see and feel compassion and empathy. Somehow everybody on here balances each other out. And much love and respect to those who have passed as well as to their families & friends.

Never seen someone such a perfect fit for a job. Francis is a joy to watch as well as the other cast. I enjoyed the show. I have laughed and cried and the different culture is a nice thing to witness. I have seen personally in my life many different ceremonies and this show allowed me to see a new one.

Very interesting to learn about Maori culture, addressed with dignity and aroha. Proprietors Francis and Kaiora Tipene are brilliant.

I love this family and employees. Show so much compassion and kindness to the deceased and their families. It is humorous at the same time. I watch in awe of Frances and his gentle soul and soothing voice. When I die I want my body shipped to NZ so they can care for me. absolutely charming.

Wow, what a show.

This company (Tipene funerals) and its staff and owners have shed a light on this industry that's so beautiful, sensitive, respectful and caring. They're all incredible. It's made our family talk about our wishes when we die - which is so important. What an amazing series, I hope there are many more seasons to come. Just finished watching season 2 and already wishing there was more.

Such a beautiful television series about the procedures and journey of life through to the afterlife and how the ceremonies of farewelling loved ones is performed.

I really found this a heartwarming series that will give insight into the workings of how funerals are organised.

Warm and Deeply Human

Always moving - sometimes in unexpected ways. Warm, kind, and respectful, I find comfort visiting the Tipenes. Humble and human they are likeable if unlikely guides. The show is well produced - nothing feels forced.
