Sex & Nudity

  • Jamie and Claire have sex on his birthday, we see her breasts.

Violence & Gore

  • There is a battle at the end of the episode between rebels and a government force supported by militia. Shooting, clubbing to death are the most common forms of murder here. We see many injured combatants. Some are wailing and crying.
  • A main character is tragically shot and dies in a prolonged sequence after saving another main character. The scene is sad.
  • Most harrowing examples of violence include a very young british soldier who is beaten (presumably to his death) by a rebel with a stone. The scene cuts to the mangled and bloody face of the soldier as her screams in pain and terror. The rebel keeps hitting the soldier. Short but very realistic and shocking.
  • Many combatants suffer blast trauma from cannon balls. Screaming in a helpless and realisitic manner after their faces and bodies get seared, sliced and impaled.
  • Shooting injuries from muscets. Usually not any blood spurting.
  • At a field hospital injured combatants are treated by a main character. Not too bloody. Characters cough up blood. The doctor is threatened and medicine is destroyed. It is suspected that a character was shot from behind by his own men. The doctor cannot save a main character as it was dead when it got to her. Very sad moment.
  • At the end of the battle prisoners of war are dragged to a spot (some by horse) as the winners push, kick and club them into submission. It is revealed that the winners executed at least three "leaders" by hanging on a tree. We see the bodies covered with bags covering their heads as soldiers pass by unfazed. The main characters believe that their dear friend is among the hanged.
