A decent netflix sitcom with some genuine laughs
DjfunkmasterG3 January 2021
Fluffy's humor definitely makes the show and his use of it definitely highlights how puts a bond between teachers and students. Having read a good portion of the review I see folks have been focusing the downplaying the show for the few times it makes jokes and Trumps expense, but since his presidency has a been a laughing stock since 2017 it works. Many shows have took a stab at presidents. Clinton, Bush, Nixon, Fod, Carter, Washington and many others however some of the reviewers seem to be taking stock in Trump and Trump only. So you can tell the definitive (I hope that is not too big a word for them) butt kissers who are missing the point of the show because their biased politics are taking precedence .

Gabe is trying to portray the teachers we all want for our kids. Someone who generally cares and tries to take the moral high ground whenever possible. His character as a teacher and how he interacts with his students makes him the person who truly believe in No Child Left Behind.

The show is somewhat family oriented and adult oriented. Most of the adult jokes will most likely go right over younger children's' heads, but the adults will definitely get a giggle or smile out of what adult humor exists.

I had a teacher like Gabe in High School so this made me appreciate them a lot more now than I did back in the late 80's (Graduated 1989).

While the show is very formulaic at times and reminds me of a modern Welcome Back Kotter it doesn't stray from its real premise which is a teacher who cares about his kids.

So if the political reviewers would get their heads of the presidents backside you may actually enjoy the show and understand the premise so much better. Take the politics out of your biased opinions (the wig joke in S1E1 was funny, sorry but I laughed) and watch the show for what it really is and you might enjoy it much more. Do you really want to trash a show because it made 3 jokes spread over an entire season about 45 when Last man Standing walked all over Biden every episode of an entire season due to Tim's politics or do you want to watch it and enjoy it for what is... a decent entertaining 30 minute show which does have a message? or do you want to be the Grinch and just hate on it for no reason because of a few political jokes.

and for those who think the laugh track needs to go, sorry but this type of comedy needs the laugh track to enhance the experience. Shows such as the office and modern family that didn't worked off situational comedy which is not everyone's teabag. So I would say since this is written comedy with minimal situational BG's in order to work I say it has to be left in.

Anyway, I enjoyed which is why I am giving it a 7 out of 10. My deductions really come from the lack of experience from some actors and some poor writing in the middle of Season 1.

Anyway, Thanks for reading my opinion and if you haven't given it a try at least watch the 1st 3 episodes and if by then you're not feeling it then fine move on and find something that suits your palette.

Its funny how Netflix keeps disappointing me and cancelling shows I like. Well no more I have cancelled my Netflix account and am done with them. This was a good, funny show. Teens played by really teens and topics that relate to todays world. With teens and adults. Love you Fluffy and I know so many of your fans are so disappointed. Shop the show to another network please.

Fluffy!!!

I must admit that I am a huge fan. I thought the sitcom was light hearted and funny. I could actually see him teaching, and the theme of him being encouraging to his students, we need more teachers like this. This also has the added benefit of being a family show that you can watch with kids 9+.

Lose the laugh track. That's what's stopping me from giving this 7 stars. I like the cast, I like the premise. This show has potential.

If you like Fluffy, you'll like this show.

Its funny, pretty corny, but thats fluffy for you, but the laugh track and the almost uncanny student reactions kinda mess it for me.

Pretty entertaining, can't handle the laugh track
sef018122 June 2019
I don't know if this is recorded in front of a live audience that is too wound-up, or if it's a bad laugh track. Gabriel is funny, but the lines are only kind of amusing and the laugh track is too loud, so I find it distracting. I felt like I was watching a lower quality show, the lines are directed towards middle schoolers. Gabriel was definitely the star, but it'd be nice if the rest of the cast could be more like him and be less over the top.

Stop with the politics
kissthecooks119 June 2020
The first season was funny and entertaining, the second season was just a bunch of SJWs complaining. Please get rid of Marisol - she is horrible. I watch a show to be entertained not preached at, and especially preached at by a "high school" student. If there is a season three, please make it entertaining again.

Lose the laugh track!!
ion-tircovnicu22 June 2019
It's a show for kids in my opinion. Still , as a fluffy fan , i will watch it, probably. The acting is not that good from his part. You can see that they are reading the script from some papers, or some screens behind cameras.

Warning: Spoilers
I love this show. I love the characters and actors and the whole premise of the show. I thank the people who wrote, created and acted in this awesome comedy.

I love how they took the took great actors from other great shows and these funny people and jammed em all into one great show.

One thing that does bother me (not just with this show but every show) is the laughs. Even if it's not funny, they still have the laughs. That is really the only thing that bugs me.

Gabriel's style is impeccable(ish)

Too much politics.
joshjgr22 June 2019
Fluffy is really the only bright spot about this show. Aside from that, it just seems like they're trying too hard. Like the forced political jokes. It has potential in the cast, I mean, Shooter McGaven is the coach but, we will see.

It's like a Disney show for adults
hizzie5 July 2019
We love it, it's light hearted and an easy watch. Perfect chill out TV or straight after a scary movie. I wouldn't worry about the right wing brigade getting their knickers in a twist. It pushes boundaries and does it with ease. Ditto for the laugh track tho, it's a bit OTT.

Refreshing take on modern student life with a great comic
justafan02921 June 2019
Mr. Iglesias is a fantastic TV show that captures the essence of modern student life.

The important message that the show aims to convey is executed perfectly and with ease as the comedic relief comes in at the right times. Because of this, I can forgive the laugh tracks since it's a given anyway for sitcoms.

Honestly haven't had a sitcom that made me laugh out loud in so long!

Funny but too political
da1599122 June 2020
I think that Gabriel Iglesias and the entire acting staff are performing at an exceptional level. However, Netflix has lost its ever loving mind. They keep on pushing the social justice projects and trying to insert comedy in between. Comedy is supposed to be an escape from politics in the world in general. Drama it's supposed to be just merely part of the scripting. It's not post to consume it. If I wanted to throw myself into political debate, I would just watch every news channel out there. However, I like to escape and not have to think about the worlds problems for a few minutes. In my opinion Netflix is taking their political views too far and they're projecting it on shows like this. Whether we like it or not Netflix and these actors are not doing this because they feel for the causes. They're doing it for the money. So for a change why not just entertain and leave the politics to the politicians.

I actually enjoyed it
alejangg28 June 2019
They do have a lot of political references. And those of you can't handle it clearly shows by the comments you're are making about the shows. I found this show Pointing at a lot of issues we are facing today but the humor is great. Not the greatest acting but not bad.

Not bad fluffy

Feet planted firmly in 2019
hjalsayegh12 September 2019
At first the show comes off as trying too hard with all the pop culture references and the laugh track after every. single. LINE!

However the topics it takes on are all relevant to the here and now without shying away from controversial issues.

It's also nice that Iglesias's jokes are aimed at 30-35 year old while the ones written for the teens are aimed at a younger audience. It makes it feel more natural. It's also nice that the Teens in this one aren't played by 30 year olds. I at least can tell the teachers from the students in this one.

Sometimes the references are forced but Iglesias's charm makes up for them. It's a decent watch overall.

Amazing stand up comedian in a terrible sitcom
falkenbbs22 June 2019
This show is terrible, the actors are trying too hard. It's so bad you feel embarrassed for the cast in many scenes. It feels like a cheesy kids show that you'd find on Nickelodeon. We're talking Power Rangers level acting in this steaming pile right here. This will for sure get cancelled, it's just terrible and it's no fault of the Comedian, this show is just bad.

I think this is going to work.
dorobo-40-73730222 June 2019
Early on the it feels a little stiff, but as the cast is figuring out their characters it feels like it is coming together. Reminds me of old school Nickelodeon shows. Iglesias is funny and there are a bunch of familiar faces with the teachers. A diverse cast should make most people feel comfortable and "represented". Focuses on relevant topics of here and now. I think lessons here are great for kids and adults without taking itself too seriously. Doesn't feel like it is trying to just be funny.

I love his stand-up but.....
jsucie19 June 2020
I like this show; it was pretty corny the first season. Some of the jokes feel like they were written by the same demographic it's aimed at. I mean kids don't act like this at all but I'm ok with it being exaggerated. The biggest problem I have especially with season two is the annoying Marisol character. The character was written quite interesting in season one but then they turned her character into the most annoying overly "SJW", "woke" character on this planet. This is not an attack on the actress, just how they write her. The second season is definitely written better and you can tell Fluffy is becoming more comfortable acting with each episode. I want this show to last but I can't see it making it past 3 if things don't become a little bit more realistic.

Meh
dbrent-225 June 2019
I'm a big fan of Gabriel Iglesias, so I was expecting a lot. Amusing, but not laugh out loud funny. More misses than hits in the laugh department. Got annoyed with the "do the right thing" lesson every episode. Overall, a fairly harmless, entertaining show.

Will inspire some guys or gals to consider teaching.
loubal21 June 2019
Some fan of Fluffy or this show will watch this for the laughs, which has a good ratio of jokes to keep you satisfied. The people behind this may still be figuring out their characters in the early episodes, but as they progressed and added more cast, you can also see that Fluffy wants to inspire all who watch to maybe consider becoming teachers themselves, making a difference like his character demonstrates.
