Well Crafted
southdavid15 January 2020
I watched the first season of Netflix's "Lost in Space" reboot and felt just about positive about it, though it is a bit of a mixed bag. It wasn't great science wise, but performances were solid and Parker Posey elevates anything that she's in. The finale was strong, and suggested that we might be in for a more traditional season of the show (a smaller cast of survivors, for example). And this first episode was pretty solid.

Marooned on an Ocean planet, the Robinson Family have, over the last seven months - established a small farmstead and are attempting to slowly charge up their ship to allow for a return to space. When the crop is destroyed, Maureen (Mollie Parker) suggests a risky plan, to convert the Jupiter into a makeshift sailboat and head to an electrical storm that could recharge the ship in one go.

Visually, the shows really strong still. The flashes of the robot, and the main ship are well done - as is anything with the Jupiter. I was much more into the family dynamic now. It appears to have fixed Maureen and John's relationship. Will appears to have shot up about six inches, based on when we last saw him, though his pining for the robot is wearing a little thin already. Harris appears to be resigned in her makeshift prison until a couple of late moments that I have to admit I didn't see coming, even though the clues were there.

One minor criticism, I was struggling with the sound mixing, riding the remote trying to hear over the background music at times. Not sure if this is the show, or my TV, but I don't usually have this problem.

There was a lot of luck and fortune across the episode but ultimately it ended in an interesting place, and I was entertained. So far so good.

Fantastic!

I loved Season 1 and looked forward to Season 2. So far I have not been disappointed as the adventure expands. First of all Lost In Space is stunning, not only with the photography but the visual effects as well. Unlike most shows and many films I cannot see the effect even when I know it's an effect, especially when paired with live action which usually gives it away. The production design is equally impressive, with logical thought being present throughout from the suits to the ship itself, including small details like warnings and instructions posted wherever needed. While most shows will shy away from stories involving heavy or complex effects work, for Season 2 they seem to have gone out of their way to create the most challenging environment imaginable: water. Even so it looks amazing, and the live action elements are again seamless while showing how detailed the sets and suits are. That being said the storytelling is equally engaging with one challenge after another presenting themselves. Lost In Space is a family-friendly version of The Expanse but perhaps that is where some of the criticisms are born, as many viewers complain about the melodramatic tone of the show, but I'll counter that by saying it is very much a show about a family, but even more so about the family dynamic, even extending beyond the Robinsons. There are lessons to be had at every turn, but rarely are those lessons heavy handed, keeping the show grounded within the world they've created. Yes, characters sometimes act stupidly but that's Human nature, and it is the way we react to stupid decisions that helps define us. I for one cannot wait to see how the season plays out as mysteries of both plot and character are revealed.

Good first episode, excited for the remaining season
nielsreberss24 December 2019
Based on only the first episode of the second season: it's fun, exciting but not too deep, with writing to match. It's the space adventure I remember from the first season. Enjoyed it, should be worth a binge through.

Good show with one exception

Warning: Spoilers
This show would be an excellent series, except... Parker Posey. She adds nothing. Terrible actress in this show. I was hoping they would have killed her off after season 1, but I guess we have to endure her for another season.

Intense Premiere
jimmyishere-3774828 March 2021
Warning: Spoilers
Since it's a premiere I'm strict again. So apparently, 7 months later the Robinsons crashed into a ocean planet with methane and a heavy atmosphere. How did they crash? How did they reach the planet and the island

The cliffhanger was nice though. Now they are not alone.

Why is the music so triumphant? It way oversells it and adds an air of warm Velveeta
orcinussr25 December 2019
I have been looking forward to Season 2 since I finished s1e10 the day after it dropped, so yes my expectations may have been artificially high having been bouyed by anticipation - and I'm not saying it's bad or even a let down - but speaking here solely of the score that is noticeable very early on and plays throughout the episode, it's just too much for what is depicted on screen - maybe, well... I'll return after episode 2

In the finale of season one...
songod-950037 February 2020
Warning: Spoilers
It appeared they were about to crash\land on a robot planet. One hostile to earthlings for stealing their tech that enabled them to go into deep space. Suddenly this opens with them on a sea side resort plant! Hard to move forward with that nagging inconsistency...

jerry-berglund-133-33737830 December 2019
For once this broken family, with extras actually seems to geniunly like eachother. THis is the way!!! So.... if that will continue instead of bashing males, wich happend the entire first season, we will get somewhere.

I loved season 1 and was crazy happy that a new season hit. What a letdown. About 10 minutes of plot painfully stretched over 50 minutes. One thing, at least, continues from season 1: the young actor playing Will is fabulous.

marianthenightman2 January 2020
-This is my favorite sci-fi show from the last year ,because i can really watch it from the beginning until the end ,which is a performance for a sci-fi show made after 2005.The only bad thing from this season is the blonde girl getting fat .

So boring, why the rave reviews?
ben-millen125 December 2019
So this episode was full of schmaltzy predictability, sure production value is great, sure but the story....oh my gosh I was bored beyond belief, gimme the old camp show style or some serious story, just don't give me this Hallmark channel dull blah blah family dynamic for an hour with no interesting development til the last 10 seconds rubbish! Boring well trodden tropes being trampled all over again

Bad
natashaconnor-9192431 December 2019
Really bad directing, terribly fast pace & obscene use of unnecessary lens flares. Stupid story plots and for some reason they're are in constant trouble. Disappointing.

Meh.
steve-667-101901 January 2020
Firstly, if you're writing a review, have a modicum of respect for the English language and the grammar that makes it readable.

As to the show, it it wasn't a reboot it might fare better with the critics.

What works for me are the sets, costumes and look. What doesn't is the PC. A black Judy is stupid and "tokenistic". John is reduced to oaf status and Don isn't much better; with a touch of comic relief.

I"ll see it through as there's enough to hold my interest but it's tough. Maybe a spin-off to the original would have been a better option.

Lost all Hope
JudgyJoey26 December 2019
Warning: Spoilers
Parker Posey is amazing with every character she takes on. Genuinely sociopathic genius!

The rest is space junk! Worst script, worst forced family ties and miss ties, how in the Devine did Capitalism Christmas survive as a tradition generations into the future!? The mechanic has terrible goof ball lines. The mother is truly the worst character presented on the show... menopause is clearly creeping in. The father should have stuck with his "Black Sails" persona, but instead has become a dumb downed brut. The cheese in this show is unbearable. Ugh, and the back track music on this show makes the Downton Abbey dramatic music Emmy worthy. I mean what happened? First season was B- ok, now my overall review has plummeted since season 2 -of this potentially creative remake of a show- turned it into a Bill Nye the Science Guy lesson plan. It's been 6 months... man up, your in space trying to survive and your crying for your teddy bear robot. Ugh, paperback diary's being published into more paperback books.... what happened to Kindle? And that child doctor... would be more entertaining if she were jacked up like Nurse Jackie. Just so disappointing this season. The Witcher is soooo much better and Netflix has not had a decent run in a hot minute. Shame! 3 stars for the series now. Someone better die off this season- the mother 🤞 please.

Lost The will to live!
mattcording25 December 2019
Waited how long for the 2nd series, and the only thing that's lost is the plot! 5 episodes in and desperately trying to find what the reason for this second series is? I was fortunate enough to have watched the original, and as crazy as a lot of it was, it had a point, a reason for being. Series 3???

The Robinsons have a hard time with water. But they are a family at least. Oh, and the bad chick is let loose for some reason.

Like trying to see in the dark
andy-992-94937626 December 2019
The cinematography is terrible. Filmed all in low light made the entire episode difficult to see because it was so dark. I hope they aren't all this way or I'll skip the rest of them
