Timely and Heartwarming
annakate_patterson3 July 2020
To have been filmed 2 years ago, it's amazing how timely the release is today. This movie touches on race, special needs and so much more. Everyone has a secret -- "Are you going to be a pharisee or are you going to #LoveYourNeighbor?"

A movie for today..a movie about love and acceptance
dpbolden1 July 2020
This movie is about loving and accepting our neighbor, about being that good Samaritan, about friendship through trials and tribulations. A powerful message delivered through the eyes of a young, autistic man who expresses his simple thoughts that make you stop and examine your own thoughts and opinions. A movie for the entire family that will prompt ongoing conversation about the times we live in.

The world needs Second Second
ozzieparker1 July 2020
Second Samuel has moved from stage to screen with the ease of warm honey on a hot biscuit. A complicated situation with a simple solution, just love your neighbor. That's all, be kind and love one another. A story set in small town in 1949, incredibly relevant in 2020.

Touching film that felt real.
bob-blattel2 July 2020
This story was really interesting and was set in 1949 but still very much reverberates today. The acting was very good, the writing spot on and the directing was excellent. The small town atmosphere permeates the movie and the setting was dead on. People's prejudices and petty behavior were on display. Gradually the movie goes from sweetness to hatred back to love. I really enjoyed this and it is a lesson for us all. The best movie I saw at the St. Louis International Film Festival last November.

Affecting story well-told
AtlBeth4 July 2020
Set in the 1949 south, this film captures the foibles, prejudices, and complicated relationships that have long marked this region. It also captures one of the realities of small town life - you know your neighbors so well that you're able to weigh what you like about them against what you don't like. Sometimes you just come to accept the bad with the good and you realize that's ok. The film is both entertaining and thought-provoking, a fitting combination during these trying times.

Timely Story
scott-rousseau2 July 2020
The movie differs quite a bit on some level from the stage play, but it is mostly true to the original stage version. This is a story that was written 30 years ago, takes place even longer ago, and yet somehow it is absolutely timely today. This movie is worth the watch. You'll laugh and cry... and you might learn something while you do that. It's a love letter to a diverse world on so many levels and yet Pamela Parker has managed to tell the tale with loads of humor sparked with love. If the play is in production near you, by all means go see that as well. On stage, it's even more personal and more touching. Enjoy the little jewel of an indie movie. There's so much to love about it.

A Film With A Heart of Gold
Second Samuel invites us to consider what community really means and how our own traditions and personal biases can erode its true definition. Carried out on a familiar southern backdrop in days gone by, it's amazing to see the parallels to life as we know it today. The film illustrates how our differences can unite and divide us at the same time, which is a sentiment that speaks ever so loudly in light of recent events.

The main character of the film is an unlikely hero whose unapologetic love for his fellow man proves to be a refreshing change to the traditional superhero figures of today's films. Raw, youthful, and untainted kindness and respect shine through as superpowers and I was certainly along for the hero's journey.

Everything about this film from what was caught on screen to the passion, faith, and hope of its filmmakers makes this film a must-see. If you're looking for a film with a heart of gold, look no further. Second Samuel truly shines.

A Must See Film

To have a film resonate with the faith based and LGBTQ communities is quite a feat! And Second Samuel does that beautifully. It'll make you laugh, cry and especially think.

A heartwarming movie about acceptance
vgazarova1 November 2020
This movie had a nice balance of humor and serious content. The greatest part of the movie is the conversations around judgement and acceptance. Even though this was set in 1949, some of the issues discussed in this movie still exist today. It makes you take a step back and recognize your own prejudices. B-Flat was great as a narrator--he didn't cover up any of his thoughts or what he was feeling. I will say, it did start off a little slow, but that didn't make the movie any less valuable. When I watched the movie a second time, I enjoyed it so much more! Wait until you find out about Miss Gertrude...the suspense!

A Message for Today!
pattirutlandjazz19 July 2020
Second Samuel takes a look at a unified community that with the death of one of its citizens, set the town into a tailspin. Tempers flared, sides were taken and tolerance was lost. Sound famiiar? It is today's world. The movie takes us through a hurt that cuts deeply into humanity and what happens when people realize that we are simply loving reflections of each other. If there ever a movie that should be mandatory for people to watch, it is Second Samuel. The town is anywhere USA, the characters are people we know, and the lesson is powerful. The lesson is one the world needs today. #loveyourneighbor
