Not a dog
BandSAboutMovies13 August 2020
Warning: Spoilers
Once, we took our dog Angelo to a dog show and saw several dogs that had been colored every shade of the rainbow as people judged which was the best. It was astounding. I'd never seen anything like it before and as soon as I got home, I did a deep dive into this strange world of dog grooming.

Now, director Rebecca Stern takes the viewer through an entire year in the life of several competitive creative dog groomers, all so that you get the reasons why they do exactly what they do.

From South Carolina to California, New York to Arkansas, this movie follows several contestants to large-scale dog grooming competitions. This movie asks the question, "What is art? And can it be spray painted and cut into the fur of dogs?"

Seriously, if you've never seen this kind of thing before, you need to see this movie. It's really something else.

A shorter 60-minute version of the film debuted on HBO Max last year. Now for the first time since it's 2019 SXSW premiere, the full-length feature film (88 minutes) will be available to the world on DVD and all major VOD platforms from Passion River Films.

Rubish
A documentary about an idiot doing horrible things to dog because of a, what they called, "beauty" contest. PETA should do something about this people. This is dog abuse, they are animals, no toys.

SICK!
ericka-86-27776521 February 2020
Warning: Spoilers
This documentary is about dog groomers doing creepy things to their dogs. Some dogs endure up to 18 hours in a week or two, to have their hair colored over and over, sprayed with tons of hair spray, paint with hair crayons the body and face, add eyelashes, cut fur in different animal shapes, add lights, beads, earrings, so on. These groomers are so needy for attention that they put their dogs in such situation for $2,500.00!. Why do that to their poor dogs? Shameful business! You want attention? Do such creepy colorful hairdo's to yourself. Leave the dogs alone. RIDICULOUS!

Excellent look into grooming
debbie_pratto25 February 2020
Dogs who are use to being groomed love it ! Any dog whether colored or not , needs to stand on a table to be groomed . Little hard to cut the areas if they are laying down right ? So these stylists are perfectionists . And artists . But the dogs are champions . It's amazing what bond the dog and owner has . These babies are cared for way more than the average pet . Good job done here

THATS THE WEIRDEST THING EVER , dogs must just be free and live their lives not be an instrument for people that are bored with their lives , what a waste . i feel very sorry for those dogs what a hard life they have.

Fascinating

Who knew that this art form and interest group was out there? My friend who runs a business with dogs and I were skeptical that the dogs were being abused- but it is more like pampered! They really seem to enjoy all the attention and grooming. The competitive nature of the dog shows were anything but cut-throat, and was very supportive or each other . I am just wondering if the negative reviewers even saw this film? It was fascinating and creative and definitely quirky! A real slice of life that I didn't know was out there! Groom on~~

Brilliantly made documentary but...
bronaghbop10 August 2020
...all I could think all the way through was *Those poor dogs. Seemed to me they'd been trained to tolerate the endless hours standing on tables being groomed to within an inch of their lives, used as their owner's artistic (?) canvas, judged and under no illusions that the failure to win was their fault, based on the feedback from their owners . Didn't see them having much joy in life though. This documentary captured all that and left us to make up our own minds. I'm fairly sure that's the definition of an excellent documentary.

I love that all of these ladies went out on a limb to educate people about this gorgeous art form and to also show that these dogs are so beyond loved and cared for. This was well put together and very insightful and so much fun to watch Tennessee these dogs play together even being so colorful is amazing it shows that they're happy and in no way abused or mistreated! Great job to all involved recommend everybody watch this And honestly watch if you open your mind you will see that this is fine for the groomer as well as the dog!

What a brilliant idea!
chaoslilfury25 February 2020
I've seen the odd dog about town with a splash of color in its tail or ears looking adorable, but I never knew it could be so beautifully done! And look how happy those dogs are with all that extra attention! I wonder if my groomer knows how to color dogs so well as these talented groomers? I just loved this movie!

Funny, informative, and philosophical look into this "sport"
traubalana3 March 2020
I fancy myself somewhat of a documentary connoisseur with the opinion that a good documentary can make ANY subject extremely interesting. Well Groomed does that on many levels. The "characters" (groomers) develop and have complexities. I found myself seriously emotionally invested in the success of a somewhat annoying self centered groomer. The art and color throughout is also very interesting and visually appealing. This film moves at a good pace, has no holes, and keeps it simple well telling a very rich story. I was unsure how I felt morally about this sport before watching the film, and although the film doesn't sway you in any direction I was able to come to my own opinion by the end just based on the stories it tells. I really love this documentary!
