Great

This game was left behind in the shuffle of the fall game market. It's a shame because it improves on Hitman 2016's gameplay and offers new maps that are large and dense. A fun time game if you will replay missions and experiment. If you want a long game with a great story, look somewhere else. For anyone who wants a fun stealth game with great levels and fun, Hitman 2 is the game for you.

Flawless Execution

Hitman is at its best when it divorces itself from the on-screen violence and instead treats the experience like an absurdist playground. The sequel does this particularly well. Many of the game's more bare-bones completionist challenges, like killing your targets with a sniper rifle only or doing an entire mission in your signature suit without ever being seen, are aptly referred to as "the classics."

Dressed to kill.

'Hitman 2 (2018)' essentially provides more of what made the first game so successful. Its innovations aren't to its mechanics, but rather to its sandbox mission design. Although not much has been changed from the base game, the piece makes a number of small tweaks and improvements that add up to a more refined overall experience. You can purchase the levels from 'Hitman (2016)' (or, if you already own that game, simply download them) and play them here, making this the perfect place to start your journey if you haven't yet experienced that prior title. Even if this is, basically, more of the same, it's still a phenomenal stealth game. After all, why fix what isn't broken? The huge open-plan levels, the myriad of assassination methods, the plethora of disguises, the abundance of secrets and challenges, the absurd 'opportunities'... it's all here and it's all great. Plus, the game isn't episodic this time, so it can be enjoyed entirely at your own pace. It will be enjoyed, too. It's a fun, engaging and entertaining experience that you can easily sink hours into. 9/10

Hitman in it's most perfect form.
harundemiro1 May 2020
As a sequel to 2016's Hitman this game doesn't do anything extraordinary or different, but it doesn't have to. It does everything right what its predecessor does, and that is fine - of course a few game mechanics were improved and the game itself looks better - but in total it feels like a greater DLC to Hitman 2016. To the game itself, it provides 6 maps, 8 with DLC, with several missions for almost every map. The "story" is mostly mediated through cutscenes, but it's not important anyways. What's important is the Gameplay, which makes this game so special. There are multiple ways to finish a mission - in which you have to kill multiple targets, as you maybe read out from the title of the game - the possibilities are endless. There are brutal kills, goofy kills, melee kills, accidents, explosions, guns and a lot more. A core game mechanic are also disguises, which you can use to access different areas on the maps. You can either finish the entire game in 5 hours or you could figure out multiple ways to play a mission and easily end up with 200 hours - I myself have over 800 - it's up to you how long you spend with this game. I would only recommend it to people who like to explore games very intensively and don't rush too much. For me it's one of my favorite games since you have nearly endless possibilities and therefore endless fun - the feeling when a long thought out plan to kill a target works out perfectly is indescribable. All in all I had to give this game a 10/10 for reasons I described above. Have fun and good luck, 47.

One of my all-time favourites.

Don't be fooled by people who are quite skeptical of this title, or even give it negative reception. The game works good, the game controls good... but most of all, it feels good. Buy Hitman 2. You'll spend countless hours playing the huge amounts of content and it rarely ever gets boring. Remember to buy or redeem the Legacy Pack for max enjoyment, but the game is solid enough without it. This is the best Hitman game after Blood Money and i'm very excited with what IOI Interactive has in store for us in the future.

Hitman two is my personal favourite game of all time, I'm not just saying this because I played it for an hour and enjoyed it, no because I have 1700 hours on it and counting. To fully enjoy hitman 2 you must play it like a very brutal serial killer not a stealthy assasin. The reason being that you can't use a batlleaxe while dressed a Flamingo on stealth. In conclusion hitman 2 is a must play for anyone, I mean anyone (also the same review applies to hitman 2016 because they are basically the same game.)

Best Hitman!

A well made sequel to 2016 which has Hitman (2016) missions and more awards that you get for getting a silent assassin rating and you get a classic all black suit. Can't wait for Hitman 3!

This game is basically just a dlc for the original Hitman. Pretty fun, but they should have added more weapons from the first one.

Hitman 2: The Other One

Story: 7/10 Gameplay: 8.5/10

Great gameplay and AMAZING level design but as with HITMAN 2016 the story is so boring that's not even important.

Its great to be back for blood
ThunderKing628 July 2020
Wow I have had a blast with the game. From voice dialogue to ways to even escape a mission is just off the hook.

I have not played a hitman game since Absolution. To be back was very easy to get back to my killing ways.

The missions are detailed and fun.

My only peeve are sometimes when I shoot my victims in the head it takes like 3 shots to put them down. Also there are too many boring challenges.

Killing challenges, disguise challenges and mission area discovery challenges I don't mind but some of them are time-consuming and pointless.

Verdict: Give me the contract.

Could have been better
YoungbloodRN10 January 2019
The graphics suck. The story line is still pictures and doesn't even move! The controls are stiff and the story is too short. For as much as I paid for this game, the graphics should have been impeccable, yet they look like a game from four years ago.

Agent 47 is on the job again...
evan_dow29 July 2021
This is my second game off of the Xbox One which I have played in 4K.

What can I say there is certainly more to do in Hitman 2 than previous instalments. I was actually wanting to play Hitman 3 but accidently got stuck with Hitman 2 through a misunderstanding.

More than a few missions. If you learn how to complete each one then return to it to play again you will increase what is called your "mastery" so you can also unlock achievements associated with that down the track.

You get taken in to what is like a Hitman game hub. You can download all the Hitman games for Xbox One.

As I said there is plenty to do you won't want to be playing the same mission once.

4K for now has flawless graphical quality so I do recommend buying a cheap 4K television with ultra HD (Asian brands you haven't heard of before) like I have to upgrade your gaming experience.

Do try it.

Hitman is slowly becoming a forgettable franchise.
cruise0120 July 2019
Hitman 2 (3 out of 5 stars).

Hitman used to be a great franchise of stealth, sandbox strategic kind of game. The player controls Agent 47 in a globe trotting assassinations on taking out clients that are involved in a organization. The plot is forgettable. Continuing the story from the Hitman reboot game. The story is consist of five chapter missions. Not counting the dlc. In each of these five missions. You have a variety access on several ways on taking out your target. Usually being stealthy is the best way. These chapters on taking out targets is not as fun as the hitman games used to be. Once i was finished with one chapter i really did not care to go back to doing the chapter again. It gets redundant and similar.

The cutscenes with cut out movements of the characters were okay. The controls were reasonable. The graphics are pretty decent. I will say i still love Hitman Absolution and Hitman Blood Money as the best games in the series. Which they had a higher replay value. Hitman 2 is a fair stealth game. Fair game in the series. The plot is forgettable. The five chapter missions are not as fun compared to the other games in the series. Replaying this game is very slim and feels like a chore.

Not as good as the furst but still worth a buy
samsungcasey1 August 2019
The Follow up isn't quite as good as the first. Although it is very similar and not a lot of changes so if you enjoyed the first this still worth a buy. The beginning mission was absolutely stunning and I thought this game could be better than the first but the rest of the missions weren't as consistently good. Overall it is a fun, tactical FPS with cool bonuses and maps. It's not the longest game and unless you have online it will be boring doing the same missions over and over again.

a big improvement
talllwoood1324 April 2022
I've been playing hitman since silent assassins on PS2 so I know and love the series. At best this is a 6 out of 10 for the game by itself without 1 (2016) involved. There are many improvements in this game, I actually didn't care for the original hitman 2016 game as the last half of it seemed rushed or there were elements of it that were poorly thought out. Such as in Bangkok there was hardly anywhere to hide bodies. In Colorado it was too many targets to the point i might as well play a third person shooter such as saints row, gta or watchdogs. The level in Japan was an absolute chore where you had to wear the right costumes to get through doors. Thankfully IOI does listen to their fans and found ways to improve their games.

I'm basing this on the gold edition of the game so this means I have new york, haven island and the rushed DLC sniper assassin missions.

This feels like an expansion pack at best, there's what 8 levels? I don't care how diverse they are but this and hitman 2016 should have been one entire game. The way the GOTY version of it is. Yet when saints row made gatt out of hell or saints row 4 it didn't get the response this did. The jazzed up tutorial level Hawke's Bay hardly counts as a mission.

The levels are just as diverse as ever. It's been a while since they did a level in India as the last few levels in it were quite controversial in silent assassins. The levels are full of life and lots of tiny details. Anyone who calls these levels small should just go play a hollow open world game where hardly anything happens in it such as GTA 5. I found agent 47 runs a little too slow in this but it just emphasizes how large the worlds are. The only two levels that I really disliked were the ending portion of "another life" where you take out the old man Janus where you've got to uncover all the clues in town. Honestly who has the patience to do that more than once or twice. Yet in Colorado on the hitman 1 2016 you don't have to do that more than once. Then the very last non-DLC level I wasn't a fan of. It's supposed to be hard. For example the white house level of blood money. It's got a great atmosphere and concept but I just didn't like it. It seems like a recycled Batman type level they never got right as WB had some part in this game. This was an issue with the level in Italy for hitman 2016 as well. It felt like a chore but at least there was an escape plane after and if you plan to do all the challenges you'll need the patience of a saint. I feel sorry for speed runners and of course people who want to play levels over and over again.

There is more story to this game but unless you waste more money as this is already quite an expensive game you really only get so much and it's far from a memorable epic. ALL the DLC missions and extras are so half baked minus the two new maps. I thought the side missions were all lazy and or poorly thought out Such as just taking out some Indian guy who walks not even 300 feet, the guy in Santa Fortuna to do suit only is notorious for being more difficult than most real missions. I'd seriously rather do Colorado again without knocking anyone out.

One new element that they added was hiding in the bushes similar to metal gear solid 3, splinter cell or shadow of the tomb raider and similar third person shooter games. I wish they would get rid of the stupid hand to hand combat nonsense. It's not resident evil 4. There are hardly any cameras in the non-DLC levels. The only level in the double digits of cameras is the level with Janus or if you've got the DLC Haven Island. I love how the map has more color to show where our weapons are. I was relying on my memory in hitman 2016. You get some new weapons which are under appreciated such as the dart gun and the projectiles such as the grenades or a projectile that zaps people that admittedly makes the game too easy at times as electrocutions even in puddles counts as accidents. I don't know why the explosives you plant can't be done the same way in hitman blood money as holding all the buttons seemed very convoluted.

Picking up certain items is a bit of a pain. Such as the explosive in the guards room in Haven Island. Or the gold statues for one challenge.

One thing that counts as an accidental death that can be rewarding among other things but how is it an accident someone drowned in a toilet or getting blown up by a propane tank. Even if you place the propane tank in places it never was. I'm kind of on the fence about the poison syringe unless it's one of those that does heart attacks or something.

Ways to improve

there are WAY too many challenges, there are some that can only be done in levels but there is always a poison, drown in toilet, strangle, shoot and explode. No joke it'll take you an entire day per level even if you know what you're doing to get everything.

The weapons are an absolute weak point in this game. From the really stiff aiming, sure it's improved slightly for people who use controllers.. but.. holy crap, it's not just me I've even seen youtubers with no life miss shots like I am. There are too many weapons and most of them just seem like reskinned versions of others such as that stupid black pistol 47 usually starts out with, that could seriously be just customizable options for the pistol to bring back more mechanics from blood money. The enemies take too many bullets which one on hand is absolutely satisfying. On the other hand, how am I supposed to be stealth? Sure body armor can affect a health bar but still. It would be helpful if the weapons had bars to see how good they are at ranges and little things like that. Plus from far away with the black lilly or silverballer pistol it's too forgiving you can get head shots even though you aren't spot on. It kind of cheapens the thrill.

Indias escalation challenges needed more time, they are the hardest ones in the game for some reason. One they want you to take three targets out and it seems they have a mistake in the briefing when looking at the targets where they used the wrong image for the second target so you will fail the mission a few times.

Why is agent 47 not invisible or at least invincible when designing a contract. I wanted to get these certain targets and i was still getting spotted and died. I mean sure it's essentially quality control but still it's annoying.

Get rid of the quick time events with the fighting

master difficulty is pointless, there's so little different in it versus professional. Maybe a few extra guards. They could have made it harder like leaving evidence. Having to pick up shell casings or certain accidents don't count as silent assassin. Or less items to bring on the mission 3 on casual , 2 on professional, 1 on master.

I wish there was a money system to unlock weapons and upgrades instead like in blood money

fix colorados challenge with the scarecrow and the two syringes or make it something else all together. I'm including this even though it's in the older game but like Bangkok and that coin challenge it needs to be addressed.

Fix india and the bug that they have/had where you cannot clear this one particular challenge where you have to make 3 gang members sick in the slums

mission stories i am so glad you can turn off, they make it certain missions too easy to get silent assassin.

The leveling up system is pointless to me for the profile. Do you get anything extra? Nope! Just bragging rights.

Make sniper assassin missions require less grinding to get to level 20 mastery it will take you days. To the point you can take out all 18 targets in under a minute and 30 seconds. It will take you 20 MILLION points to get level 20 mastery. At my best I was getting 2 million points a game. That is when you've got a good route to do, don't miss a shot and so forth as time doesn't help much with a bonus.

I would get rid of contracts mode. It's not fun and does not include any extra replay value.

Why did they get rid of a list of costumes we've already collected such as in Absolution in the start menu. This seems like a step back. The super secret ones can still have question marks but this is dumb where you'll most likely just mow through the whole entire level. 47 would be proud.

Screw the flash bang grenades. If you have the need to plow through an entire level of people you'll probably get seizures from all the white flashes. Can you hold instinct to get rid of it? No. Not really, the game relies too heavily on them. It's like the freeze missiles in twisted metal 2. I could broadcast footage of the game during a gun fight and open a night club using this game as a strobe light sometimes.

The level in Columbia to get two targets to die on the same statue requires too much luck

getting robert knox and the fish guy on the pier to get hit with that sign the model of the fish and the hit box are very unclear and need a serious update

how come 47 can't pistol whip people when behind them or throw weapons like in blood money. I get that it's super dangerous to throw a gun with the safety off to the floor but to get rid of pistols in a lake would be nice or an option to dump weapons when he is near water or anything? Yes there are garbage bins but still.

Why can't 47 inject poison into people on the floor? Or run behind them like the fiber wire when he is detected for the last one.

One of my favorite improvements is challenges don't have to be done on all the difficulties, the security cameras improved slightly too. Where as in hitman 2016 on the standard difficulty they were just annoyances.

Should you try or buy this game? Absolutely when it's on sale. It's not perfect and the DLC I'll grab when it's in the bargain bin but that's about it. It's a step in the right direction but still not great.

For Adamant Fans Only
kluseba28 March 2022
Hitman 2 is stealth video game developed by IO Interactive and published by Warner Brothers Interactive Entertainment. It's the seventh entry in the Hitman franchise and the second out of three games of the current game series. This game has four main maps plus two free downloadable maps as well as expensive bonus material that offers many hours of entertainment.

On the positive side, the different maps offer numerous possibilities to execute targets and retrieve information. Players can use traditional weapons such as knives and pistols but may also use their environment to stage accidents or even put blame for their actions on other characters. The different maps have much replay value and are also quite diversified with my favourites being the small village in the jungle of Colombia and the narrow streets of the busy slums of Mumbai. The graphics of this game are very lively and realistic.

On the negative side, the main story has slow pace and never manages to take off and grab the players. Anyone who is looking for creativity, depth or surprises might end up feeling disappointed. The numerous cutscenes are boring and stiff. The soundtrack is repetitive and unspectacular. The fact that the physical edition of the game doesn't even include all the main maps is unacceptable and the elevated price for bonus content is exaggerated cutthroat capitalism at its worst.

As you can read, Hitman 2 is only interesting for avid fans of the franchise who like to explore different ways to complete the maps and the bonus content. Occasional and new fans might however find that this game has several lengths and lacks intensity. At the end of the day, the game is passable but one of the weakest entries in the franchise.

Terrific game that falls short of expectations
viccobra1 January 2021
I have played hitman(1) a lot, close to 200 hours. And it has some flaws, it is too easy to exploit the weak AI. For example that NPCs just keep running into a room where you are standing, killing them off one by one. This itself isn't horrible since the game is supposed to work around stealth. But it takes you out of the game and it makes every challenge that doesn't require you to kill just the targets or not to get spotted too easy.

Another thing that takes you out of the game is how a target or a guard will never miss their friend, you know, your friend that stands next to you forever goes away to check on a fallen coin but never returns. I get that it's some sort of game choice to make it easier but it should be a feature in the higher difficulties.

But a strong point in hitman(1) is the higher difficulty where certains items aren't illegal but suspicious. It works well and adds to the difficulty. Something sorely lacking in hitman 2.

So let's now focus on hitman 2, the game this review actually revolves around.

When I bought it I was expecting a game just like hitman but with more fleshed out and detailed map, an AI that is more advanced both in combat and logic thought simulation. Unfortunately I feel every map falls short on this expectation. In hitman 2 I enjoy 2/7 scenarios, one of which being the first very short scenario. Whilst in hitman I dislike 1/7 scenarios(colorado), but even the one I dislike has it's high points.

The issue with the maps in hitman 2 is how they seem less detailed, the enviroments are more varied, but this seems to have taken away from the gameplay details that are supposed to exist in hitman scenarios. One scenario in hitman 2 where you are in suburbia is one such example. Every house has close to the same layout, it's small and very simplistic. It doesn't fit the game's concept.

The bugs are somehow also more prevalent, I encounter a bug almost every time I play a scenario, in hitman this happened very rarely. Certain bugs will cause NPC:s to fly hundreds of meters up in the air and commonly items falls through the ground. This has happened at least 10 times in 60 hours whilst it's happened less than 3 times in 200 hours of hitman(1).

I don't know if the game is worth it to be honest, it adds very little, it feels like a downgraded gameplay experience and poor map pack. It doesn't deliver on expectations, at least on my expectations. I got it for 10 euro so I am okay with it, but anything more is too much. It does not deserve a full game price since it's not a full new game. It's a downgraded DLC, thats how it feels.
