Great performances but lousy location planning.

Really enjoyed the episode and sorting out the Gregson connection could be interesting. But what on Earth were they playing at with the faux London bits? As mentioned on other sections, non existent U.K. number plates, missing plates from the moped, US model cars in background and frequently foreground, very obviously septic buildings, brownstones outside the London police station window when Watson is talking, single-ring phones - which apparently date back to the early eighties if you look at the ancient hospital phone - along with those very London yellow, hanging traffic lights in Baker Street, apparently. Much as I liked the story and always enjoy the show, the poor idea of pretending to be in London does turn into a 'spot the wrong detail' game with whoever is in the room with you. At least they didn't do the 'It's a real pea-souper, guvnor' and lashing rain bit. God only knows what Miller thought. He must have been cracking up with it all.

Hurrah my favourite show is back!
jetskiboybze24 May 2019
Was lucky because I only just found out that it was back. So happy to see Holmes and Watson back I missed them terribly. With Holmes being the most played character its a joy to see this incarnation so well done. JLM is perfect as the modern Holmes and LL is an excellent foil as Watson. JLM is as good if not better than Rathbone in the role. This opening episode was well up to par and as soon as they return to US soil I will be back in seventh heaven (even tho I'm a Brit). I hope they dont get silly with the plot as Person of Interest did and keep the sleuthing up front and the back issues just bubbling like they should. Joan should get laid (new hairdo should help) and Sherlock should catch all perpetrators with skill, humour and verve. Welcome back!!

So obviously not filmed in London
andywalton00124 May 2019
With the amount of British actors in this episode you would have thought they could have got the details correct. The Baker Street residence is nothing like the buildings in London, and the park was clearly stateside. The registration plates on the vehicles were all wrong too.

I don't give a fat rat's tail ...

Whether it is was filmed in London or New York or Paducah, Kentucky. I'm just happy to have Sherlock and Watson back for a final season. Elementary has been consistently intelligent, well written, fun and pure entertainment. I look forward to the next 12 episodes which can easily tie up the series with a now and leave the real fans satisfied.

So glad to have Holmes and Watson back! Picked up right where they left off in London. Plenty of familiar faces with a great cliffhanger!

How can they get it so wrong?
smnichandaria24 May 2019
Supposedly set in London. Yeah, right. Police sirens that haven't been heard since the 60's 221b Baker Street is not 221b Baker Street. Bad British stereo type accents. Cars in the UK have UK plates, not American. And I want to know where all these parks are in London. I have lived in London all my life, very close to Baker Street, and I have never seen these parks. American SUV on London Streets? You kidding?

Otherwise, Love the Show.

Warning: Spoilers
Lucy Liu is beautiful and ageless I prefer her dark hair but she is so beautiful that she also looks great with blond hair. I hope show setting comes back to US so that the inconsistencies are reduced That said, I think the one year transition was handled well in terms of writing All of the regular cast were great; can't wait to see next episode

Good to see 221B but.....
itisnotme31 May 2019
The show was okay, but, I hope this going back and forth from London to NY does not continue. I may have stayed with it, but, it really is too much. I also had a problem with Joan's attitude. But, the main thing I hated was Lucy Liu's blonde hair. I could not believe how much it changed her look. Blonde just not look good on her, plus, her natural hair color was absolutely gorgeous. I hope Joan gets over her attitude and that she goes back to her natural hair color. What's up with everyone wanting to be blonde, anyway????

Further poor blond adventures
maritinakoe25 May 2019
What a treat to have Sherlock back at 221Baker Str. Awaiting his new escapades and "further adventures"!! What a let down the blond hair of both Lucy Liu and Tamsin Greig whereas kudos to Ophelia Lovibond for the bold yet charmingly distinguishing change. I really could never understand why gorgeous black haired female actors turn indifferently blond.

How can 7 people rate it before it airs????
MiketheWhistle24 May 2019
I'm just amazed when I see people rating the show before it airs. In any case, I hate the new hair completely. The scotland yard lady is terrible compared to the nyc detectives. The story is fairly similar to the typical story but nonetheless is different.

For being the final season, I do hope it gets better cause I was disapointed in the opening.

Just bloody film it in London!
delibird19 July 2019
I love Elementary, always have, so as a Brit I was quite excited to see it move to London. Imagine my horror on watching and immediately noticing that it wasn't filmed here. And then there's the amazing Tamsin Greig, comic actress extraordinaire, doing 'cockney style bants'. Is this how Americans see us?

Unwatchable, I had to turn it off after 27 mins.
grnsn4 June 2019
I have watched all of this show and really enjoyed it, apart from this episode where it all went wrong. As someone from the UK, everything in the episode that is meant to illustrate the UK is irritatingly wrong.

With the exceptions of Jonny Lee Miller, Tamsin Greig and Ophelia Lovibond the UK accents and scripts were extremely poor, they sound like Dick Van Dyke in Mary Poppins. The settings, buildings, cars and registration plates were obviously nothing like the UK. The sound effects like police sirens are not UK police sirens.

The script for the UK characters was written using language and sentence structures that we don't use. I would have thought that a lead UK actor would have been a useful resource for the writers, to be able to double check that what they were writing sounded normal. Unfortunately the episode was an American cliché of the UK. With such poor understanding of the UK, I don't think I could watch any more of this season. Hopefully the setting returns to the US soon.
