Not completely pointless.
GriefEriksson17 February 2020
Warning: Spoilers
Lots of reviewers hating this episode as pointless. However there are a couple of relevant breakthroughs. The largest is the way in which Jack is exposed to all, in BOTH a supernatural and rational way, creating a bit of bridge between the two and bringing the skeptical characters one step closer to a crux. Holly had suspected Jack and spotted his telltale blisters at the end of last episode. Jack is finally able to talk to someone about his condition, which is something that we have no knowledge of for any of the previously affected. Will this connection between Jack and Holly allow him to overcome? There are already signs that Jack may be better at resisting the compulsions than the previous victims. Then Ralph and Alec follow rational clues to Jack's place and find forensic evidence of something terribly amiss. They don't have the whole picture, but by the end of the episode, Holly's supernatural collides with the mounting physical evidence, and is happening before a child is abducted. Ralph approaches a point where denying a supernatural explanation is ironically becoming irrational and he knows it. There is some progress here. Yunis makes a critical distinction between Ralph and himself, implying that Ralph's need to rationally explain these events should come second to successfully stopping them. Without this episode, people would have been complaining about how quickly and easily rational empiricism gets abandoned in pursuit of the paranormal. There had to be an organic progression for it to feel natural. Alec and Ralph working closely together for the first time assists this bridging between accepting the unknown and demanding certain knowledge. Glory finally gets fed up and sets Howard on the path of vengeance, focusing on institutions but leaving individuals out for the time being. This episode sets up possible redemption stories for both Jack and Ralph. And yes, it was a bit slow.

What do these other reviewers expect?
pian7717 February 2020
It's a 10 part series based on a novel that's 500+ pages of tiny font like most of King's novels.

Not every episode is going to show blood and carnage or drastically move along the plot.

Was it a slower episode? Sure...but it builds narrative, characters develop more and shows Jack's struggle in greater detail.

Be patient and respect the craft of proper story telling.

I'm originally a Dexter/Supernatural fan.....
shaunnnnn-874-23576917 February 2020
....so this show had me from the get-go. Especially since its Stephen King. I'm confident the show will reveal incredible plot twists and OMFG moments. But this episode was a little disappointing. I mean, the build up and intensity to what's coming gave me the whole reason to keep watching. But, this episode didn't do anything for me. I'm going it a 7/10 because I believe it has something special to reveal. And being a Supernatural fan, I think I know where this is going. And also being a Dexter fan, it'll keep things realistic. Until it cant be anymore. So, I'll keep an open mind. This show has much more to offer. Be patient!

It's not Netflix, for good or for bad.

Warning: Spoilers
Fans of TV shows are so used to marathon shows on Netflix and Amazon Prime that they can no longer have the patience to let a story flow. Be calm and enjoy the show, for God's sake.

The Outsider is doing great. I don't lower the 8 rate in this series.

Just here to LOL at the 1 star reviews

It's a series not a movie. Lol at the reviews so far. You don't appreciate good acting and a taut story line. Have some patience or go watch something else.

The show is being needlessly dragged out.
LegendaryFang5631 July 2021
Warning: Spoilers
Huh, so Jack was bringing Holly further away from the barn. I wonder if that signifies that there's a significance to it that has yet to be discovered, something that the entity is desperate to keep from being found. Perhaps that something is that it is hiding there and unable to go elsewhere, rendered immobile, most likely because it is still shedding and turning into Claude.

Speaking of Claude, the entity is probably going to be him and commit a murder very soon as he, the real Claude, left the town. I wonder if the scratch does more than permit the entity to change its form into the person scratched, like slowly making the person leave the town, etc., and the exact time it takes for that to happen is the exact time it takes for the entity to change into that person, however long it is, exactly, between each murder as the doppelgänger of different people. But when I think about that, that seems a little too intricate, but it would be kind of awesome if it was.

Anyway, again, I feel like things are being needlessly dragged out. Ten episodes are too many. Looking on the bright side, the show should be getting extremely tense and suspenseful, perhaps to a new degree, all because we're closing in on the end.

Holly Gibney 1 vs 0 Bogeyman
jinrak7418 February 2020
Warning: Spoilers
I don't get it why so many fans criticize about this episode. In fact, this was the most important episode in the show. It proved for everyone ,including the most stubborn one Ralph, that the thing is do exist. That's all we wait for it, don't we? So yeah this episode was so good and it had to be exactly like this.

I feel bad for Jack though and I happy that he didn't give up. We don't wanna lose him, he is best at acting.

Just appreciate the show. It's not fair to watch one episode and wait for everything to be seen.

Those looking for standard procedural fair... step away!!
mdbourke-282-89997322 February 2020
If you love jigsaws, this is the story for you. You take your time, observe and in time, pieces will fall into place. Sorry, this is no criminal minds?!? A slow burn that amps up the suspense while being a sting character driven piece! In this day and age, with quick fixes all around, stop, relax and enjoy this excellent slice of the macabre and suspense.

How Can a Show Fall this Far?
teachinglegend20 February 2020
The first two episodes were 10/10. Then, the roll down hill started and now I'm finished with it. The story has stalled, nothing important happens, and they've lost any excitement in the narrative. I've never seen a show fall this flat, this fast.

Slow.
cruise0117 February 2020
2 out of 5 stars.

The episode continues in a slow direction. With a boring script that barely moves the story along. The characters barely making any progress as they still have trouble believing in the monster.

No more mystery.
sadako1118 February 2020
Warning: Spoilers
The show started as a great who-done-it murder mystery, but now that we the audience know about "el cuco" and whats going on the show is loosing gas fast.

The show spent the last three episodes trying to convince the main character about "el cuco". We the audience already know about "el cuco" from 3 - 4 episodes ago!! That's boring. No more mystery.

A good show would have push the audience to take a side: "el cuco" believers or non believers, but the show made clear that "el cuco" exists so the show is not interesting anymore.

Now the main theme of the show is to convince the skeptic main character to believe the evidence, to believe in "el cuco". Bleh!!

Pointless, but a little bit thrilling
scarryboy17 February 2020
I have a feeling, that the show keeps loosing its tempo with every new episode. This one doesn't bring up anything new or interesting. The story wants to remain such a mystery, that it makes the episode boring... In the end, the story strugles in the same spot, we didn't find out anything new and the characters remain shocked by the 'unnatural force' or whatever. I see this as a pointless episode, with no tempo, but there was some thrill in some scenes.

Heart-breaking.

It's like opening a long awaited wine vintage and finding out its gone off. Really disappointed the show has lots its track in the pursuit of suspense. Hoping the remaining episodes will make up for this.

boring
littlemooch17 February 2020
Made an account today just to review his garbage. watching this is a sunday chore. nothing at all happens for about the 3rd episode in a row. show just keeps on dragging.... story should have been wrapped up in 5-6 episodes.

if you say this is good you are lying to yourself. i wanted it to be good but it is just not. It is a boring, anti-climatic waste of my time

Been waiting for something to happen or someone relevant to get killed off for weeks now... or at least Tamikas baby getting eaten or ANYTHING

Also, why do they keep previewing nudity prior to the episodes and there has been NONE... hate false advertising /:

Pointless
shearorourke17 February 2020
If you skip this episode and go straight to the next one, you will miss out on absolutely nothing. Not only was this episode slow, boring, and pointless; there was nothing clever or witty to counter all of the time you spend thinking about jamming a hot poker in your eye in an attempt to take the focus off of how you just wasted an hour of your life watching this meaningless story.

Nothing happened in this episode
oscar-montanez17 February 2020
What a waste of time and resources. Nothing absolutely nothing happened in this episode that contributes to the story as a whole. Makes no sense to extend the series like this. Then just leave it at 9 episodes

Further proof books filmed DON'T work.
omegawolf11 March 2020
If you film the whole thing, you just point out how little happens in a book. Intead of 3 plot points spread over 120 pages, it's spread over 600.

Can't believe so much talent got trapped in this. If I wanted to watch something SO slow unfold, I'd just....... live life!

What happened?
Psyfrox24 February 2020
Warning: Spoilers
How can you air this episode with a HORRIBLE scene like the last one? Bad acted, screaming to camera. It started being 10/10 first two episodes, that happened with the style? This scene looked straight from a Venezuelan soap opera. Same as the scene with the police fighting little mom... unwatchable. Who ever was in charge with the first two episodes needed to be the whole season.
