Far from his best
bgar-8093217 July 2018
I'm a big Jim Jefferies fan and I've seen maybe all his stand up and this one is probably the worst. It's a little too political at times which to me is fine if it lands but a lot of the jokes didn't land. I'm glad I stuck around though as he had a great bit about Al Pacino though that was worth the wait and makes me question if he actually met him. I'm sure he hasn't but he did the impersonation so good.

Jim

Jim Jeffries is still a very funny fellow. In a way he reminds me of Norm Macdonald in that he doesn't get straight to the punch line. First comes a seemingly unrelated statement. He is a tease; and you either enjoy the teasing, or you don't.

Classic Jim ....sort of
kofila15 July 2018
Sooo the good thing is Jim still does specials.. I thought he would pursue TV/film career more by now but he is still true to his roots. Or at least he's trying... The show was good overall but lacked a spark of sorts.. a mojo, if you will.. Jim just seemed to have lost the passion for the topics he talked about. I understand it is harder for him to find the zeal maybe partially due to the Jim Jefferies show where he just has to sift through a horrible amount of information and news and try and pick the most interesting or funny ones. How much involved in the production of the JJ show he is, I do not know, but it seems to wear him down a bit. Jim just doesn't seem like the day in, day out working kind of guy...

He's better than us, He's a story teller

Jim is funny as always, but the stories are so long, funny and well connected that it's just unbeleivable. Can't really understand why there's so many bad reviews.

Very funny stuff.

I haven't laughed this hard in a long time. Jim Jefferies really knows how to a tell a story with a super funny ending. Reminds me of Eddie Murphy and Richard Pryor who also had me laughing so hard it hurt. He says it like it is. No holds barred. That's what I like. But you may not... That's just how it works with opinions.

Beware, plenty of foul language that will likely offend
bettycjung16 July 2018
7/16/18. While he was funny in parts, he has an extremely big potty mouth. I just find that kind of language offensive and lazy. One can express oneself well without resorting to foul language. Near the end he reveals that he has been dealing with depression almost his whole life. Ok, that explains some things. Watch only if you are into potty mouth humor.

Jim Jeffries Creates a Comfortable Groove!
lumiens7 December 2023
Jim Jefferies' "This Is Me Now" is a story-filled, entertaining comedy special, filmed in England that currently appears on Netflix. Mr. Jeffries comes to us via Australia, which gives him a rather strange accent. In spite of being a foreigner, he has earned a place in our household. :p

We've been entertained by his other specials...so, I didn't hesitate to watch this. I'm glad I did. Using a cooking analogy, I'd say that this program warmed us up quickly, establishing a pleasant simmer the entire show. Continuing the analogy, I can honestly say that It was a satisfying meal.

Throughout, Jefferies relates stories that could happen to anybody. But his point of view, via his special prism, interprets things in such a way that makes him unique. His jokes are always witty, clever, and often politically incorrect. (In fact, he frequently talks about hot-button issues.) You might disagree with him philosophically, but he's never mean spirited (part of his Australian charm - similar to that of a well-intentioned, but shortsighted friend?!?).

In short, I'm always drawn to a Jim Jeffries show. He takes chances with his stories, and he paces his shows like a professional boxer - nailing the finish. Overall, I would highly recommend "This Is Me Now" to anyone looking for a good laugh. I'd give it a solid 9/10!

Disappointing
laurent-814 August 2018
His other Netflix specials are amazing, by comparison this one is just boring and his delivery feels like he knows it's average and just going through the motions.

Turned it off.
burningbrooklyn24 September 2018
Unfortunately, you should just watch one of Jim's earlier specials which are better. This special is basically just a rehash of all his old jokes, telling a new audience about old jokes he told at his other shows. Nothing new, i turned it off. It's boring and not funny.

Where Are The Jokes?
MogwaiMovieReviews13 July 2018
I really liked the first couple of Jim Jefferies stand-up specials, he was a fresh, edgy and rambunctious new voice when he first appeared, but living in LA and hosting that awful chat-show seems to have tamed him and given him no time to come up with any quality material. He really doesn't have anything new to say and what he does have to say isn't all that funny. There are no great set-pieces or even any lines you'd want to remember to pass on to anyone else.

I laughed precisely twice. Some of the bit about Trump was moderately amusing but so safe and predictable, and nothing that the average man in the street couldn't have easily come up with himself. The Al Pacino story was nice but didn't lead anywhere, or add up to anything, it was just some stuff that happened.

Unless it was simply a contractual obligation, I can't actually see why Jefferies wanted to put this show out at all. Really just a disappointment.

What happened to Jim?
alysay15 July 2018
He used to be good. Very cutting edge comedy. Now, he's all political, jump on Trump, low hanging fruit comedy. So sad to see him catering to Hollywood mindset.

The air is fast escaping from the funny balloon...
paul_haakonsen17 July 2018
Granted I haven't really been a fanboy here, but I have watched some of Jim Jefferies previous shows, and yes I have been quite amused by those. So when I found this 2018 "This Is Me Now" on Netflix, I did of course give it a chance.

Well, I must start right off by saying that the spark is fading. This show was nowhere near his previous shows in intensity, in humor, in stage presence, or even in enjoyment. It felt like he was running on auto-pilot and was doing a half-hearted attempt at delivering jokes based on material which wasn't all that funny to begin with.

I was only laughing twice throughout the entire show. Those times was during the scene with the son and the toilet, and the second time was with the Al Pacino segment.

Aside from that, then this was a very bland experience. And I must admit that I was actually sitting with my phone and playing Uno on Facebook during the show, and just listening to him stumble about on the stage. Yeah, the show had that little appeal.

Lazy stand up
larsman199226 July 2018
I see a lot of reviews of people who say they are fans. But if you truly love Jim's material, you can see that this special is just a money grab. Rehash, No real jokes. The bad rating is not because 'some people can't stand this kind of language', it is simply because this is a very lazy made stand up. I hope you didn't lose your edge Jim.

The title says it all. This is me now.
kmi5874618 July 2018
I've been a fan of Jim jefferies long before he became an American political sheep. I love all his old stand ups and his legit tv shows. All so fresh and unpolitically correct. Since freedumb, which I did like a bit, I started seeing the change in him. And his latest tv show, which I stopped watching after s01e04, I can see why his new special is called this is me now. Such a shame. I even signed up to imdb and gave my first ever review just to let you, and all your fans of old, know just how disappointing an unknown Australian comedian has become corrupted by popular American media and fame. I hope you realise all this when trump is re-elected by the majority of the American people for what he has actually achieved for America rather than what mainstream and social media and you have portrayed him as. By the way. I'm Australian, and we need someone like trump here.

Don't Waste Your Time

Jeff Erie's was at one time extremely funny and talented. He has gone from that to what we see now, a has been. His comedy has become lazy and unoriginal. So sad. He once was a great comedian.

Prefer to remember him as he was before
Roma7320 May 2022
I've really liked a few of his shows, but this one just wasn't as funny, at least not for me, and there was one certain moment (which I shan't name as to not have spoilers) that I thought so uncomfortable (but not in a good, challenging way) it had me cringe. It's one of the reasons I'm a bit harsh with my rating. I reckon he does deserve more for the rest of the show, but definitely not 7 - a 5 at the most for me.

Quite boring, moved it to the second monitor
followpre25 July 2018
I watched this on my computer and after like 25 minutes I moved it to my 2nd monitor and decided to do something else primarily. The jokes are okayish, but not very original. There wasn't a single moment where I actually laughed or, you now, exhaled air through my nose loudly.

I watched his TV show exactly once and turned it off after 10 minutes. It was pure garbage, non-funny and nowhere near the old Jim stuff. Of course there is a difference between a stand up and a weekly show (is it weekly? no idea). But then again he has writers for that show.

Anyways, he seems more tame, maybe life wore him down. Maybe he has to do specials, but doesn't really want to. The party in Hollywood stuff where he met de Niro: Is it just me or did he tell this somewhere else already? Because I knew the part, I knew he would pretend to be a director, I knew his agent would jump in etc. Maybe he told this in some YouTube video, but that must've been at least 4-6 months old, because I didn't really watch any Jim stuff recently.

Overall it was a 4/10, but he is still likable, so 5/10

This Is Disappointing Now
shinedowness12 April 2019
Warning: Spoilers
This is a representation of how California can ruin the quality of a comedian through Hollywood and L.A.'s political correctness from far leftists. Jim lost his edge and started making recycled jokes in this This Is Me Now. He said the word contract in this show, and other comedians that started to decrease their quality for Netflix have said the same word. Is it an indicator of a potentially bad show for all comedians now? Also, Jim has talked about how his audience paid for his show just like the other comedians who have decreased their quality for Netflix have. Is that another indicator of a potentially bad show for all comedians now? Should I just switch to another comedian if a comedian says their audience paid for their show and says the word contract in their show because those 2 things are indicators that their show will suck? Besides all of that, this show really disappointed me and made me think Jim being sentimental about his depression was too much for me to take. He needs to get some help and maybe when he does his shows will be better. I think because of his breakup with his girlfriend, his depression before that relationship I mentioned started, and his involvement in L.A. have all messed with his quality of comedy.

Simply, simply AWFUL!!
mgcivilengineering8 July 2020
I've witnessed funnier tax returns.

Jim really missed the mark with this one. Skip this and head straight to an actual comedian, like Ricky Gervais.
