An agreeable refocus on the main story
bosporan12 May 2022
A welcome return to the core story, with the tension between various factions and interests coming to a head and delivering some glorious action. Halsey's obsession and emotion suppression explode into full-blown megalomania and some of the undecideds must take sides. Everyone acts reasonably from their own viewpoint making this episode coherent and compelling.

Initially there is overuse of high key photography and lens flare which gives way to a subsequent grittier rendition following the tone of the story. The dialogue is, as usual, sketchy, but does not irritate so much given everything going on.

A good episode, much better than the previous irrelevant and unwanted sideshow.

Good! An episode without Kwan is a quality episode!
Silja_Europa12 May 2022
Much better than last episode. One of the best, in fact. There are still some things in this one that I don't think fit in the Halo universe and Master Chief being humanised as much as he is doesn't fit the games at all, but this is a TV show and as far as the show is concerned, this is a very good episode. Visuals are very nice, decent action and surprisingly entertaining choreography. Some genuinely good dialogue too. UNSC plotline is getting interesting, and for the first time I've left an episode wanting more. If only the show started with this quality maybe there wouldn't be such a hatred for it. But I will still praise the show for improving.

I've come to terms with the fact that Master Chief never wears his armour now (and if he does his helmet is almost always removed), but I still wish they showed off his armour more. It's a very faithful recreation of his Mjolnir armour and they barely ever use it. There is a scene in this episode that would have worked amazingly if he wore his armour. Unfortunately, the actor is probably getting paid millions to have his face everywhere even though he delivers his lines almost exactly the same each time and we don't really benefit as an audience by seeing his face, as it doesn't really add much but takes away so much of his mysteriousness.

No Kwan in this episode! Hallelujah! Having her in the show has left such a bad first impression for people. If and when she ever comes back, the show will immediately get worse. It seems like the Kwan writers don't really know what to do with her and are just writing because the producers wanted a subplot with a teenage rebel girl, but the UNSC plotline has way more budget, focus and quality. It's not amazing, but it's starting to get decent and I can appreciate the effort to improve and create an entertaining storyline.

I hope for season 2 they really look at all the criticism and take it to heart. I think the show could be something really special if they did. Imagine if they ditched Kwan and put all the effort and budget into Master Chief and the Covenant, take a lot of inspiration from the games, actually made Master Chief more like Master Chief (to an extent, I know this is still a TV show), and maybe even get the soundtrack from the games too. I think it could be really powerful.

Overall, good. Forget Kwan, let's get back on track!

First time making a story?
thegamer-0064213 May 2022
Warning: Spoilers
This episode felt really weird. It had some solid parts in it that I loved, the scene where the 2 spartans went out to capture john and his girlfriend oh and the artifact. There were alot of problem though with majority of it feeling forced or not making any sence. John is just flat out a weak character at this point, he has no ambition and only feels like a soft potatoe with feelings. This is very easily seen int he forced scene with his new hot alien gf that magically switches sides from a walk in the park after decades of indoctocation by the covenant, nice one.

Another major problem I thought was that cortana, out of nowhere, betrays Halsey and saves john for some unknown reason. Is it love? THEN SHOW IT BUILD UP AND HAVE AN AFFECT. You can't just drop in a scene with her being jellous and then *boom* do a 180.

Overall, a messy and badly writen episode with small parts of gold in it, focus on small.

And all of a sudden...
critic-97-41765712 May 2022
...It gets interesting. The dynamics between the characters, the build up, the character development... it's all finally paying off. We see who these people really are and where this potentially leads.

Very good episode.

The bad reviews are for people who are OBSESSED with the video game
xkdsy21 February 2024
This is one of the better episodes of the science-fiction show that I've seen in a long time. Great depth of character, great action scenes, great tension. All of the characters are well written. The people who are crying about this episode probably spent too much time, eating Doritos and playing Halo. They think this has to be EXACTLY the video game. I used to play the video game, I can gladly say this is BASED on the halo universe. I didn't start watching the show so I could relive the video game. I started watching it to get amazing episodes like the one I just watched. People need to relax about their nitpicky insanity. How about you Just enjoy the show. If you want the original source material, go play the game.

Solid Penultimate Episode
bbevis-4795412 May 2022
Warning: Spoilers
Allegiance covered a lot of ground to recover from last week's blunder. We have Master Cheeks and Makee finding comfort in one another, Jacob and Halsey butting heads, betrayals and a fun fight scene at the end. Overall, Allegiance was a solid setup for the finale. A few characters at this point deserve more screen time. Miranda, Kai, Vanek and Riz need some love from the screenwriters. Curious to see if Makee touching the artifact is going to unleash the full force of the covenant on Reach? I don't really have much else to say other than I was reasonably entertained throughout Allegiance, and I can only hope the finale sticks the landing.

One of the Best Episodes so far! At last some serious drama!
khansaad-9311012 May 2022
Love the developing dynamic between Makee and John. Hugely irritated (rather disgusted) by Halsey. Cortana at last does something good. One hell of an episode. Contained every emotion in there. Good job show-writers! Just don't let us cry too much :-p

Makee was always gonna be on a razor sharp edge between the two groups. It was lovely to see her human side. The last thing the stupid UNSC could do they do to her, they did. Feel bad for John :-( Can't wait for the finale.

Paramount STOOOOP !!

Warning: Spoilers
We have loved his iconic character for 20 years and he has never done such silly feelings that make his character emaciated, I beg you! Master chief needs you to stop doing these crimes to his character, please do this sexual absurdity with any other character but Master chief??? You insult his legacy and you don't respect his loyal fans 💔

Much Better
SpeblNygex12 May 2022
After the last episode I was tempted to quit watching but happy I decided to continue. Show is back on track and hopeful the other subplot is done - I don't know because I couldn't even finish the episode. Yeah, it was that bad.

It's been a number of years since I last played Halo and I'm happy they are showing the inner workings of the Halo universe.

Anyone who rates this lower than a 6 is pretty much dim and has no understanding of halo I swear some of you only come here to moan this is season 1 of a show that'll run for quite a few seasons not just 1 do you want everything to happen in 9 episodes? Bet you walk out of movies after 20 minutes quit whining and enjoy it or don't watch no one makes you after all.

myco-2710112 May 2022
That was a really good episode. Had me at the edge of my seat a few times and the mystery of who the villain is.... is actually still unclear! I like where the story is taking me. I cannot wait for next week's episode.

Best episode for me so far. Suddenly some of the haters are interested again. Pfft They disgust me.

I don't know what to say anymore tbh
ljnisbett12 May 2022
The episode was redeemed in the last 10 mins but the portrayal of Master chief in this series is appalling and is an upright disrespect to halo as a whole, this series needs to finish strong and get to a position to restart in a more halo way for season 2 or it is doomed.

Why
adampostmus12 May 2022
I swear this show was written for something else that fell through then they just slapped Halo on the title.

Every week I am optimistic it can't get worse then you get a Mastercheif love story.

Now THAT'S More Like It!
mzand-751-53957213 May 2022
After hopefully what was the last Kwan Ha outing of the disastrous last episode, Halo finally was back to true form this week. It was almost as if we were watching two entirely different series. The superficial and amateurish acting in the Kwan Ha story versus the first rate, high drama, sci-fi story of Master chief vs. The Covenant. I really hope that the show runners take a good look at the reviews of last week's episode and never squander the goodwill of their audience like that again.

Muuuch better
pamiza1313 May 2022
Warning: Spoilers
Before my actual review I'll say this: I've come to accept that we're never getting a true to the games/books series, at least not yet. This show could really flourish if they get rid of Kwan, have a Miranda be more confident, and....did i mention Kwan yet? This is the show we've been given and I'll take it.

Anyway. There's a lot to unpack here so bear with me.

This by far the best episode, with one more to hopefully top it. Almost every character added a level of complexity. It had a little bit of everything... espionage, betrayal, action, romance (still a little weird but I'll allow it because Chief and Makee have good chemistry), and a tad bit of jealousy (mostly from Cortana and Halsey's creepy assistant).

Halsey's God Complex really comes through with the way she tries to manipulate everyone and everything for her own benefit. Jacob tries to anchor her to reality, but in her mind, she's the hero of her own story and no one can tell her different.

I was 50/50 with Makee at first but this episode makes you start to sympathize with her character. With Chief off his meds and actually able to address his feelings, he's the first human who's looked at her as an equal and that connection translates well on-screen (again still kinda weird). She had a chance to end him but instead chose to remove her uh..laser sword fingernail, thus believing that humans may not be that bad. Enter Halsey and a good jolt from a taser, she jumps ship. Hope sticks around for the long haul but i could see them killing her off to numb the chief and get him back to that "duty over everything else" mentality.

Ok after some thought there's way too much to go through so I'll leave it at this.

I'm curious where they'll take the Spartans from here. Obviously Kai is taken a more extreme route than Chief has in regaining her humanity, but Riz and Van are still brainwashed but the hesitation from Riz could hopefully bring an end to that. Jacob's attempt to do what needs to be done and trying to keep his humanity will be interested to see. If he goes the same way he did in the games, it'll be a sad time. Miranda just needs confidence, other than that she's good in my opinion.

Even with the slight jealously portrayed from Cortana towards Makee, its nice to finally see the Master Chief & Cortana dynamic we've been waiting for.

I'm fairly certain the season will end with the destruction of Reach and them finally making the jump to Halo.

Building for season 2 - Pillar of Autumn
jk101-209-193113 May 2022
So it's clear from seeing the very poor storytelling so far that finally cortana and chief are building a relationship and this is going to be prepping for a season 2. They are bound to glass reach just like in the lore and hopefully from the fan reaction they may stay closer to source material

With regard to this episode, I'm not happy Spartan 117 takes off his helmet but I can go with it but for him to have a sex scene is dam right ridiculous. The final 20 minutes of the episode was good and it's great to see the Spartans obey Halsey. It's another filler episode and the whole show seems to be exposition however I really do believe we are ready for season two. Pillar of autumn is approaching have faith guys.

Allegiance

Warning: Spoilers
I still feel like this show dropped the ball after so much early potential, but this at least had a little bit of excitement in it. In season two they need to just unleash the war and go from there though.

I'm starting to really love this show.
kinodavai12 May 2022
Warning: Spoilers
It's less and less like the canon Halo, but more and more a good series (not a great one). Whether it's bad or not, everyone will decide for himself, even before the show was released, I resigned myself to the fact that it's not worth waiting for the usual scale and a story familiar from the original. I watched this episode with a slight sense of embarrassment, shame, and mostly delight. It wasn't boring at all. It will most likely be the same for many.

The Master Chief is still acting strange due to the loss of the pod, but his leadership and heroic qualities are redoubled. He is too naive, but these are the consequences of the story that was built before. I don't really like where Halsey's character is being taken, and if she doesn't have a redemption arc in the next season or in the final episode, it's going to be a slightly awkward moment that will spoil the big picture. But as I said, there's not much from the canon, but unlike other film adaptations of games and videos that do the same, Halo at least builds a more or less logical and interesting replacement, given the television format and non-rubber budgets.

An excellent fight in the finale, the identification of clearly defined antagonists of the next season, the excellent building of Chief's friendship with Cortana, the stakes have become even higher and it is still difficult to understand what will happen next until the end. But I'm actually really happy that the showrunner of the show has been changed. I looked at the projects he worked on with one eye, and everywhere he builds the plot for an extremely long time in order to accelerate to the finale.

Great they are back on in that story after that spin-off in the previous episode, what I honestly did not find too bad.

This episode brings all back and can't wait for the final one.

And the mess continues.....
nik_kas13 May 2022
Warning: Spoilers
I don't know which is worse really, the fact that most people who rate this dumpster fire highly are PR people, bots and women who like the lead (because anything with a good looking lead is good enough for them) or that the writers are clearly high on something?

For 20 or so years we grew up with John, 117, AKA Master Chief.... A hardcore military person who was augmented at a very young age to simply be the best, and he was the best.....He hardly ever talked, he was respected by all (even the Covenant), was defeated by just 1 enemy in the entire saga (and that was temporary) and never, ever took his helmet off in front of us...... Now take a look at this Master Chief.... A guy who is not shaved, is a punching bag for a good amount of the series, is belittled by the doctor (he was never the best line), almost never wears his armor any longer (let alone his helmet), speaks all the time, makes jokes AND even has SEX with a girl he just met 2 days ago.... And i will not go into the bad CGI, the weapons we have now and are still present there, the annoying Kwan and 100 more plot holes.

Good stuff right? After all of the above it's clear that people who rate this with more than 2 have no clue what they are watching.

Great episode!
wyattsriots13 May 2022
I will say I still have complaints; but as far as episodes go I would ranked this 2 or 3 so far. It's refreshing not to have Kwan and finally focus of the UNSC and their characters. Still no action with the covenant, but they make up for it. The 7.2 average right now is ridiculous. I would pay little attention to the scores until the shows been out for awhile. A lot of people are just mad that this isn't the game.

Enjoyed this episode. Had a little bit of everything. Unexpected twists and turns kept my attention! Good pacing. With only 1 episode left, I wonder about the cliff hanger until season 2.

The intrigue gets even stronger!
chiefspartanfan99712 May 2022
Warning: Spoilers
Master Chief stretched his ass with Maki, let's be happy for him! Of course, this is not the same John-117 from the games. But this is not the same Dr. Halsey. And a lot of other things. But I'm already used to it, and if we consider the series as something similar, but not copying, then this is very worthy of watching!

Great fight between the Spartans, good drama by Maki.

The final must be unrealistically cool, otherwise all these excellent series (except the seventh) that led us to it will crumble and get a maximum of seven out of ten from me.

Much better than the Kwan Ha side story
phelectric14 May 2022
Back to a good sci-fi show. This episode redeems the last two, especially episode 7 with Kwan Ha which is beyond unless for this show. Kwan Ha is terrible. Almost ruined the show for me.
